EXERCISE DESERT HUNT 2025

Why in the news?

  • An integrated Tri-Service Special Forces exercise named Exercise Desert Hunt 2025 was conducted by the Indian Air Force at Air Force Station Jodhpur .

Important points:

  • The exercise involved elite Para (Special Forces) from the Indian Army, the Marine Commandos from the Indian Navy along with the Garud (Special Forces) from the Indian Air Force, participating together in a simulated combat environment.
  • This high-intensity drill was aimed at enhancing interoperability, coordination and synergy among the three Special Forces units to ensure swift and effective response towards emerging security challenges. 
  • The exercise included airborne insertion, precision strikes, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism operations, combat free falls and urban warfare scenarios wherein the combat readiness of the forces was tested under realistic conditions.


President visits UNESCO World Heritage Site Dholavira

Why in the news?

  • President of India Smt.Droupadi Murmu,  visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dholavira in Gujarat. 

Important points:

  • The site is locatedon the arid island of Khadir in Kachchh district.
  • Dholavira, is one of the most significant and well-preserved archaeological sites in the subcontinent, showcasing architectural and engineering brilliance of the Harappan people.
  • It showcasesadvanced town planning skills with sophisticated water conservation systems, well-structured reservoirs, urban settlements etc.
  • With its inscription in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 2021, Dholavira has gained international recognition attracting scholars, archaeologists and history enthusiasts from around the world.
  • The ancient site of Dholavira was excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India during 1990-2005 under the supervision of Dr. Ravindra Singh Bisht and yielded habitation in seven cultural phases from 3000-1500 BCE, adding new facets in the understanding of the Harappan Civilization and its relation with other Bronze age civilizations during the 3rd Millennium BCE.

Why in the news?

  • The HIMASHIELD 2024 Grand Challenge, organized by (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) C-DAC Thiruvananthapuramunder Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology research initiatives, successfully concluded on National Science Day in Thiruvananthapuram.       

The details of the winners are given below:

  • Winner (Rs 5 lakhs, Trophy & Certificates): GlofsenseTeam consist of Venkatesh R, Naveen Krishnaa S and Nithish T from Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu.
  •  First Runners up (Rs 3 lakhs, Trophy & Certificates): CryoWizardsTeam consist of Sourabh Anand(Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology,Dehradun) and Sunil Mahato, Sudip Banerjee, Nikita Roy Mukherjee(Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra)
  • Second Runners up (Rs 2 lakhs, Trophy & Certificates): CryoSenseTeam consist of Dr.Ashim Sattar, Dr.Sudipta Saha, Dr.Debajyoti Biswas, Abhinav A, Kattamuri Mohan Krishna, Kartick Cherukuri (IIT Bhubaneswar) 

Objectives:

  • Aimed at fostering innovation in Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) mitigation, the challenge provided a platform for young researchers and innovators to develop indigenous, sustainable solutions to tackle this critical environmental challenge.

About HIMASHIELD 2024 grand challenge :

  • HIMASHIELD 2024 is a grand challenge dedicated to tackling the growing threat of Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) caused by climate change-induced glacier melting.
  • Organized to foster innovation, the challenge provides a platform for researchers, engineers, and innovators to develop cutting-edge solutions for monitoring and managing glacier lakes, designing early warning systems, and implementing effective engineering measures to mitigate flood risks. 
  • The goal is to create practical, scalable, and indigenous solutions that can safeguard vulnerable communities, protect critical infrastructure, and enhance disaster resilience. 
  • Through this challenge participants are invited to register their teams through the official HIMASHIELD website and submit proposals detailing their innovative systems, capabilities, and societal impact.

  • Manan Kumar Mishra re-elected as Chairman of Bar Council of India for 7th consecutive term.

  • Mishra is a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar and belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
  • Senior Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra has been re-elected chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI) for the seventh consecutive term.

About  Bar Council of India (BCI):

  • The Bar Council of India (BCI) is a statutory bodythat regulates the legal profession and legal education in India. 
  • It also represents the Indian Bar. 

Functions of the BCI:

  • Sets standards for professional conduct and etiquette.
  • Disciplines lawyers who violate the standards of conduct.
  • Sets standards for legal education.
  • Recognizes universities that offer law degrees that qualify students to become advocates.
  • Protects the rights of advocates.



Yogi adityanath announced five spiritual corridors in uttar pradesh

Why in the news?

  • The Uttar Pradesh government  claimed that the recently concluded Maha Kumbh has “led to development of five spiritual corridors in the state that would connect Prayagraj to different regions of the state” and that these would be developed further.

Important points:

  • Officials said these include Prayagraj-Vindhyachal-Kashi Corridor, Prayagraj-Ayodhya-Gorakhpur Corridor, Prayagraj-Lucknow-Naimisharanya Corridor, Prayagraj-Rajapur (Banda)-Chitrakoot Corridor and Prayagraj-Mathura-Vrindavan-Shuk Teerth Corridor.
  • Thesefive corridorswould include places of religious significance and pilgrims were seen travelling through these routes either before or after taking bath at the Sangam in Prayagraj.
