World Homeopathy Day is observed every year on 10th April to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of Homeopathy.

An Overview of the News

• The Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH) under the Ministry of AYUSH organized a scientific conference on the occasion in New Delhi.
• The conference was inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and its theme is 'Homoe Parivar - Universal Health, One Health, One Family'.
• The conference included sessions on policy aspects, advances in homeopathy, research evidence and clinical experiences in homeopathy.
• CCRH exchanged Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with various Homeopathic Colleges and Directorate of Homeopathy, Government of Kerala.
• In addition, a documentary, a portal and eight books of CCRH were released during the event.

History of World Homeopathy Day

• Samuel Hahnemann was born in Paris on 10 April 1755 and was a renowned physician and scholar.
• He discovered the fundamental principle of homeopathy, known as "like cures like".
• Homeopathy is widely used in India and is considered a safe form of treatment with minimal side effects.
• World Homeopathy Day is organised under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
• The day aims to raise awareness about homeopathy and its benefits as an alternative form of medicine.

Exercise Cope India 2023

Exercise Cope India 2023, a bilateral air force exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the United States Air Force (USAF), is being held at Air Force Stations Arjan Singh (Panagarh), Kalaikunda (West Bengal) and Agra from 10 April.

An Overview of the News:

• The aim of the exercise is to enhance mutual understanding between the two air forces and to share their best practices.
• The first phase of this exercise has started on 10 April 2023. This phase of the exercise will focus on air mobility and will involve transport aircraft and special forces assets from both the air forces.
• Both countries will field C-130J and C-17 aircraft in the exercise, along with USAF MC-130J operations.
• The exercise also features the presence of Japanese Air Self Defense Force personnel, who will participate in the capacity of observers.
• The first Cope India exercise was held in the year 2004 at Tekanpur, Air Force Station, Gwalior.

World's first Asian King Vulture Conservation and Breeding Center to be inaugurated in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh has set up a state-of-the-art Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Center (JCBC) for the critically endangered Asian king vulture, the first of its kind in the world.

• It is located in the Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh and is spread over 1.5 hectares.
• The JCBC is designed to maintain a sustainable population of Asian king vultures by breeding them in captivity and releasing them into the wild.
• The Asian king vulture is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act and is listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.
• The use of diclofenac in veterinary medicine in India has led to a population decline in recent years, and the JCBC aims to have at least 40 vultures in captivity over 15 years to ensure the sustainable conservation of the species.
• The Forest Department has partnered with the Bombay Natural History Society for technical guidance.

About Wildlife Protection Act

• Introduction: The Wildlife Protection Act is a law enacted in India in 1972 with the primary objective of protecting the wildlife and their habitats in the country.
• Prohibition: The Act prohibits hunting, poaching, capturing or killing any wild animal listed under Schedules I to IV of the Act, without prior permission from the authorities.
• Protected Areas: The Act designates specific areas as protected areas for the protection of wildlife and their habitats. These include national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and biosphere reserves.
• Penalties: The Act provides for strict penalties including fine and imprisonment for violations. Repeat offenders may face more severe punishment.
• Amendments: The Act has undergone several amendments over the years, the latest being in 2003 and the amendments aim to strengthen the protection of wildlife and their habitats.

• In India, Jhaparova will also meet Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi and Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri.
• In the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India has urged both sides to find a peaceful solution to the disputes.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's visit to Uganda and Mozambique

The Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on a visit of two African countries Uganda and Mozambique from April 10 to 15, 2023.

• According to the Union Ministry of External Affairs, the External Affairs Minister will be on a visit to Uganda from 10 to 12 April. During this he will hold delegation level talks with Ugandan Foreign Minister General JJ Odongo.

  S Jaishankar is also expected to meet prominent leaders of the country Uganda and other ministers.

• He is also likely to meet the country's leadership and other ministers.
• The External Affairs Minister will inaugurate the transit campus of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) to be set up in collaboration with India.
  • This will be the first campus of this university outside India. Jaishankar will also address a group of Ugandan businessmen and industrialists.
• During this, MoU is also expected to be signed between India and Uganda for setting up the first campus of NFSU outside India.

Mozambique Visit:

• The External Affairs Minister will visit Mozambique from 13 to 15 April. This will be the first visit by an External Affairs Minister of India to Mozambique.
• The fifth meeting of the India-Mozambique Joint Commission will be chaired by the Foreign Ministers of both the countries.
• During the visit, various types of assistance will be announced from the Indian side to both these countries. There will also be talk on defense cooperation with these two countries.
• In March 2023, India conducted military exercises with nine countries in Africa, as well as a separate meeting with the military chiefs of African countries.
• In March 2023, Cyclone Freddy caused havoc in Malawi, Mozambique and Madagascar.

CR Rao wins International Prize in Statistics 2023

• Rao will be honoured with the award at the International Statistical Institute's World Statistics Congress in Ottawa, Canada in July.
• The prize will be awarded for Rao's groundbreaking paper, 'The Information and Accuracy Obtained in the Estimation of Statistical Parameters', published in 1945 in the Bulletin of the Calcutta Mathematical Society.
• The paper was later included in the book Breakthroughs in Statistics, 1890–1990.
• The International Prize in Statistics is considered equivalent to the Nobel Prize in Statistics.
• The award recognizes individuals or teams who have made significant contributions to science, technology, and human welfare through the use of statistics.
• Five major international statistical organisations cooperate to award the prize.
• The award carries an $80,000 cash prize and is presented once every two years.

About CR Rao

• He is a renowned statistician and Emeritus Eberly Professor in the Department of Statistics, Pennsylvania State University.
• He was born in Karnataka in 1920 and has been associated with the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata since 1941.
• Rao has been honoured with several awards throughout his career, including the Padma Bhushan in 1968 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2001.
• He was also the recipient of the SS Bhatnagar Prize in 1963 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1967.

Rao received the Wilkes Medal of the American Statistical Association in 1979 and the US National Medal of Science in 2002.

Walkthrough for C-20 Working Group on Integrated Holistic Health organized by AIIA

• The event was attended by a large gathering of over 400 delegates and the institute showcased how an integrated approach can be effectively implemented in the field of health care.

C-20:

• The C-20 is one of the eight official working groups of the G-20 Forum.
• The 19 countries in the C-20 are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
• C-20 India 2023 is one of the official engagement groups of G-20 which provides a platform for civil society organizations (CSOs) in the world to articulate people's aspirations for world leaders in G-20.
• The walkthrough, organized by the institute, took the delegates to the hospital and highlighted how an integrated approach in healthcare can be effectively implemented for the betterment of humanity.
• AIIA has also signed an MoU with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University for cooperation and coordination in the field of research and education in the field of Ayurveda.

Amit Shah launches Vibrant Village program at Kibithu border village in Arunachal Pradesh

Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on 10 April launched the 'Vibrant Villages Programme' at Kibithu, a border village in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.

• 'Vibrant Village Programme' approved by the government with a central component of Rs 4800 crore including Rs 2500 crore specifically for road connectivity for the financial years 2022-23 to 2025-26.
• Under the programme, 2967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts along the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Ladakh were identified for comprehensive development.
• In the first phase, 662 villages have been identified for priority coverage, which includes 455 villages in Arunachal Pradesh.
• The Union Home Minister will also inaugurate nine micro hydroelectric projects of the Arunachal Pradesh government built under the "Golden Jubilee Border Lighting Programme" at Kibithu.
• The Union Home Minister will also inaugurate Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) projects to enhance infrastructure at Likabali (Arunachal Pradesh), Chhapra (Bihar), Nooranad (Kerala) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
