Aam Aadmi Party got the status of national party

The Election Commission of India has granted national party status to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on 10 April 2023.

An Overview of the News:

  • Along with this, the Election Commission of India has withdrawn the status of being a national party from many political parties. While many political parties were given the status of state level party.

National party status back:

  • The Election Commission has withdrawn the national party status of Sharad Pawar's party NCP, CPI and Trinamool Congress (TMC).
  • In Uttar Pradesh, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has also been withdrawn as a state party.

Recognition received as a state level party:

  • Revolutionary Socialist Party (West Bengal).
  • Voice of the People's Party (Meghalaya).
  • Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (Nagaland).
  • Tipra Motha Party (Tripura).
  • BRS (Andhra Pradesh).

Right now there are only six national parties in the country:

  • Indian National Congress (INC)
  • Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M)
  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
  • Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)
  • National People's Party (NPP)
  • Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)

Conditions to be recognized as a National Party:

  • According to the Handbook of Political Parties and Election Symbols, 2019 of the Election Commission of India, a political party is considered a national party if:

    • It is 'recognised' as a state party in four or more states; Or
    • Get 6% of the total valid votes from 4 different states in the Lok Sabha or State Legislative Assemblies elections and additionally win 4 Lok Sabha seats. Or
    • If it has won at least 2% of the total seats in the Lok Sabha from at least 3 states.

Conditions for recognition as a State Party:

  • A party is recognized as a state party in a state if:
  • It polls 6% of the valid votes polled in the state in the general election to the respective state legislative assembly and also it wins 2 seats in the same state legislative assembly.
  • If it gets 6% of the total valid votes in the state in the general election to the Lok Sabha and also it wins 1 seat in the Lok Sabha from the same state.
  • If it wins 3% of the seats in the Legislative Assembly or 3 seats in the Legislative Assembly (whichever is higher) in the general election to the Legislative Assembly of the concerned State.
  • If it wins 1 seat in the Lok Sabha for every 25 seats allotted to the State or any part thereof in the general election to the Lok Sabha from the State concerned.
  • If it secures 8% of the total valid votes polled in the State in a general election to the Lok Sabha for the State or State Legislative Assembly.

Aam Aadmi Party:

  • Currently Aam Aadmi Party has government in two states:

    • Union Territory and National Capital Delhi in February 2020 as well.
    • The party formed the government with absolute majority in the 2022 assembly elections in Punjab.
  • In the same year, the Aam Aadmi Party made its mayor for the first time in the Delhi MCD.

The Central Bureau of Narcotics launched the Unified Portal on 11th April and the portal was inaugurated by Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Revenue Secretary.

An Overviews of the News

  • The portal has been launched towards strengthening the vision of Digital India during the period of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'.
  • This portal is a one-stop solution for licensing and ExIM authorizations issued by the Bureau.
  • The portal is designed to create efficiency, transparency and accountability among the users of the department to promote the growth of drugs and pharma sector, boost economy for "Atma Nirbhar Bharat", and meet the needs of pharma and chemical industries.
  • The launch of the Unified Portal will ease the process of doing business with NDPS and Controlled Substances in the country with transparency and better compliance.
  • The portal is integrated with other government services such as Bharat Kosh, GST, PAN-NSDL verification, e-Sanchit and UIDAI, facilitating a single point service for obtaining licence from CBN.

About Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN)

  • The Central Bureau of Narcotics is a Central Government organisation dealing with international trade in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursor Chemicals under various United Nations Conventions and the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
  • It is the nodal agency of the Government of India responsible for controlling the production, trade and consumption of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in India.
  • It was established under the Indian Opium Act, 1857.
  • It issues licences for the cultivation, production and distribution of narcotics and intoxicants.
  • The CBN monitors and regulates the production and distribution of these substances, and combats illegal drug trafficking.
  • The CBN collaborates with other law enforcement agencies such as the Narcotics Control Bureau, Customs and Excise Department to coordinate efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse.
  • CBN collaborates with international agencies such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) to combat the global problem of drug trafficking and abuse.

Southern states lead in State Energy Efficiency Index 2021-22

Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh released the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2021-22 report on 10 April.

  • The SEEI was released during the RPM (Review, Planning and Monitoring) meeting of states and state utility companies in New Delhi.
  • Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan and Telangana are among the top ranked states in the State Energy Efficiency Index-SEEI.
  • Four states Assam, Haryana, Maharashtra and Punjab are in the achiever category with scores between 50 and 60.
  • Besides, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Chandigarh are the top performing states in their respective state groups.

Objective of State Energy Efficiency Index:

  • To help states identify areas for improvement, learn from best practices and adopt an economy-friendly approach to energy efficiency implementation.
  • By prioritizing energy efficiency, it aims to drive carbon reduction efforts and achieve a more sustainable future.
  • The index is designed to help monitor progress toward state goals for energy savings and emissions reductions.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE):

  • The Government of India established the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on 1 March 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
  • The mission of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency is to assist in developing policies and strategies under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 with an emphasis on self-regulation and market principles.

  • It is being organized at the 35th Chief Information Security Officers (CSIO) Intensive Training Program at the School of Planning and Architecture in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh from April 10-14, 2023.

Objective:

  • To spread awareness about cyber-crime and ensure adequate security measures to tackle the growing menace.
  • For this, the Cyber Secure India programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and IT with the mission of building the capacity of CISOs and frontline IT officers in all government departments, was envisaged.

5-Day Intensive Training for CISOs: 

  • A 5-day intensive training program has been designed for CISOs of Public Sector Banks and Insurance Companies, technical wings of police and security forces, CTOs and members of technical/PMU teams, subordinate agencies/PSUs.
  • The objective of this training is to educate and enable CISOs in particular to understand cyber attacks comprehensively and thoroughly, gain necessary hands-on experience about the latest technologies in security and create an empowered e-commerce ecosystem for individual organizations and citizens at large. To deliver the benefits of infrastructure.
  • Launched in the year 2018, CISO Training is a first of its kind partnership between the government and an industry association under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

  • The constitution was originally written in English and Hindi, but has been translated into many other languages in the past. Translation of the Constitution in Dogri was a long-standing demand of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Dogri version of the constitution will enable people speaking this language to understand the fundamental rights and duties of citizens, the functioning of the government and the role of various institutions in the country.
  • Releasing the Dogri version of the Constitution is an important step to promote awareness and understanding of the Constitution among the people of Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country where Dogri is spoken.

About Dogri language

  • It is a language spoken primarily in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi.
  • It is one of the 22 official languages recognized by the Indian Constitution and also an official language of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • In 2003, Dogri was recognized as the national language of India in the Indian Constitution.
  • Dogri derives from Sanskrit, the ancient language of the Vedas (1500–1200 BCE), and is thus part of the larger Indo-European language family.

Iniochos-2023 international exercise to be held in Greece from April 18

An international exercise named Iniochos-2023 is going to take place in Greece from 18 April. In which the world's deadliest fighter jets will be included.

An Overview of the News:

  • The main objective of this exercise is to live up to the high standards during the war and understand all the dimensions of air attack.

Organized in three phases:

  • It will be organized from 18 April to 8 May 2023 in three phases:

    • Phase I: April 18 to 23
    • Phase II: April 24 to May 4
    • Phase III: May 5 to May 8

Countries participating in Iniochos-2023:

  • In this, apart from India and Greece, fighter aircraft of many countries like America, France, Italy, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Spain will also be included.

India's eye on F-16 fighter aircraft:

  • During this, the Indian Air Force will get an opportunity to practice with the F-16 fighter aircraft (this aircraft is also with Pakistan). He will get a full opportunity to test his ability and skill during the battle. Whereas, there is still no official information from India.

These will be practiced:

  • In this exercise, offensive counter operation, defensive counter operation, strategic air operation, exercise of air support to ground forces, exercise of air support to navy, search, combat search and rescue, exercise of destruction of vital targets of the enemy, there will also be an exercise to protect your important bases.

Highlights of the Iniochos-2023 exercise:

  • Apart from India's Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter aircraft, Greece's F-16 and Rafale fighter jets, Cyprus' AW-139 helicopters, France's Rafale, Italy's Tornado, Jordan's F-16, Saudi Arabia's AU- 15, Slovenia's PC-9, Spain's EF-18 and America's MQ-9 Reaper drones will participate.
  • Apart from this, officers from Austria and Canada will witness the entire exercise.

  • It was organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) under the Skill India Mission to promote career opportunities for the youth of India.
  • The main objective of PMNAM was to provide relevant apprenticeship training to the local youth of Udhampur and surrounding areas, thus providing them better career opportunities.
  • Several local business organisations participated in the Apprenticeship Mela to provide employment to youth in the region, thus boosting local employment and economic growth.
  • The apprenticeship training provided by these organisations is aimed at equipping youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen fields.

  • This initiative was started by the Government of India to reduce the number of maternal and neonatal deaths.
  • The day serves as a reminder for both government and society to prioritise the health and safety of mothers and their newborns.
  • In 2003, the Government of India declared 11 April as the National Safe Motherhood Day through the efforts of the White Ribbon Alliance India (WRAI) and the day was chosen to coincide with the birth anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi, a renowned social reformer.
  • The primary objective of WRAI was to create awareness about healthy health care practices as well as the availability and accessibility of health care initiatives for women during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care and to encourage the government to prioritise maternal health.

About the White Ribbon Alliance (WRA): 

  • It is a non-profit organisation established in 1999 with the primary objective of advocating for maternal and newborn health and rights.
  • The organisation operates in more than 50 countries worldwide, focusing on mobilising and empowering individuals, communities, and organisations to demand and receive quality maternal and newborn health services.

According to the latest tiger census data released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the number of tigers in India is set to reach 3,167 in 2022.

An Overviews of the News:

  • This figure shows a significant increase from the previous census figures of 1,411 in 2006, 1,706 in 2010, 2,226 in 2014 and 2,967 in 2018.
  • The Prime Minister launched the 'International Big Cat Alliance' to mark the completion of 50 years of 'Project Tiger'. The aim of the alliance is to protect and conserve seven major big cats across the world including tigers and lions.
  • The Prime Minister also released a booklet titled 'Amrit Kaal Ka Tiger Vision', which outlines the vision for tiger conservation over the next 25 years.

Project Tiger

  • Project Tiger was started in 1973 by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
  • Under this programme, central assistance is provided to the states with tiger population for conservation of tigers.
  • The initial reserves covered under Project Tiger were Jim Corbett, Manas, Ranthambore, Simlipal, Bandipur, Palamu, Sundarbans, Melghata and Kanha National Parks.
  • At the time of the launch of Project Tiger in the year 1973, there were only 9 tiger reserves in the country, at present the total number of tiger reserves in the country has increased to 54.

The top 10 states with the highest population of tigers in India are:

  1. Madhya Pradesh - This state has the highest population of tigers in India with a total of 526 tigers.
  2. Karnataka - With a total of 524 tigers, Karnataka has the second largest population of tigers in India.
  3. Uttarakhand - This state has a total of 442 tigers and is known for its dense forests.
  4. Maharashtra - Maharashtra is home to 312 tigers, making it the fourth state with the highest tiger population in India.
  5. Tamil Nadu - This state has a total of 264 tigers and is known for the Mudumalai and Anamalai tiger reserves.
  6. Assam - With a total of 190 tigers, Assam is an important state for tiger conservation efforts in India.
  7. Kerala - Kerala also has a total of 190 tigers and is known for the Periyar Tiger Reserve.
  8. Uttar Pradesh - This state has 173 tigers and is home to the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.
  9. West Bengal - With a total of 88 tigers, West Bengal has a relatively low population of tigers compared to other states.
  10. Rajasthan - This state has the lowest tiger population among the top 10 states with a total of 69 tigers.
