The fifth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games culminated on February 11.
An overview of the news
Maharashtra topped the medal tally by winning 161 medals including 56 gold. While Haryana stood second with 128 medals including 41 gold.
Host Madhya Pradesh finished third with 96 medals including 39 gold.
5 thousand 812 players from 36 states and union territories participated in these games organised in nine cities.
The participation of girls in these games was about 40 percent.
Khelo India Youth Games
The Games were hosted in Madhya Pradesh from 31 January 2023 to 11 February 2023.
For the first time water sports namely Kayaking Canoeing, Canoe Salam and Fencing were part of this edition of Khelo India Games.
It was organized in eight different cities of the state.
These eight host cities are Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Maheshwar, Mandla and Balaghat.
The 4th Khelo India Youth Games was held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula (Haryana) from June 4 to 13, 2022, while some matches were also played in Chandigarh.

How are Governors appointed?
Article 153 of the Constitution says “There shall be a Governor for each State.”
According to Article 155 "the Governor of a State shall be appointed by the President by warrant under his hand and seal".
Under Article 156, "the Governor shall hold office during the pleasure of the President", but his term shall be five years.
Articles 157 and 158 lay down the qualifications and terms of office of the Governor.
The Governor must be a citizen of India and must have completed 35 years of age.
The Governor should not be a member of Parliament or State Legislature, and should not hold any other office of profit.
The position of Governor is envisaged as a political head who has to act on the advice of the Council of Ministers of the State.

The seasoned Jean Eric Vergne of DS Penske automobiles won an action-packed Formula E Prix in Hyderabad on 11 February.
An overview of the news
The fourth leg of the Formula E season of the year 2022-23 was held in Hyderabad.
This is the first Formula E race held in India.
The Formula E race marked the successful return of top-level motorsport competition to India.
Vergne faced a tough challenge from Envision Racing's Nick Cassidy in the 33-lap electrifying race but was able to hold him off in the end.
The Hyderabad E-Prix was held on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake and India's first street circuit built near NTR Garden.
The winner's trophy was presented by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur.
Nick Cassidy (Envision Racing) and Antonio Félix da Costa (TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team) finished second and third respectively.

A first of its kind two-day international conference, DHARA 2023, is being organised in Pune to discuss strategies for managing urban rivers.
An overview of the news
DHARA stands for -Driving Holistic Action for Urban Rivers.
DHARA is the annual meeting of the members of the River Cities Alliance (RCA).
The meeting is being organised by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) in association with National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) from 13 to 14 February in Pune.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will deliver the keynote address on the inaugural day of the event, while Kaushal Kishor, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, will deliver the concluding speech on the second day.
DHARA 2023 will provide a forum for commissioners, additional commissioners, chief engineers and senior planners of the 95 member river cities in India to discuss management and solutions for local water bodies.
The event has strong synergy with the Urban 20 (U20) initiative under India's G20 Presidency.
River Cities Alliance (RCA)
It was launched in 2021 as a dedicated platform for river cities of India for discussion and exchange of information for sustainable management of urban rivers.
It was started with 30 cities in 2021 and currently has 95 cities as members across India.
It is formed by the successful partnership of the two Ministries - Ministry of Jal Shakti and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
It focuses on three broad themes - networking, capacity building and technical support.
It will enable cities to learn from each other's success and failure and connect people to rivers.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on 11 February inaugurated the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav- 2023 (RSM) at Azad Maidan, Churchgate in Mumbai.

The festival has been organised by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India from 11 to 19 February to promote national unity and integrity through cultural exchange.
Minister of Cultural affairs, Forest and Fisheries, Govt of Maharashtra Sudhir Mungantiwar and Minister of Tourism, Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, Women and Child development, Govt of Maharashtra Mangal Prabhat Lodha were the guests of honour present for the inaugural function.
The Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav conveys the message of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat', which signifies that despite the many diversities in language and cultural expressions, India is united and one.
Around 1000 artists will perform during the Mahotsav for the people of Mumbai.
About 350 folk and tribal artistes from across India along with around 300 local folk artistes, some transgender and differently-abled artistes, renowned classical artists as well as renowned star artists will enthral the audience with their enthralling performances.
On April 14, a special tourist Babasaheb Ambedkar Circuit train will be inaugurated.

This five day Mahakumbh of Stamps (11th to 15th February, 2023) in Hall 5, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, is being organized as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations.
The themes of the exhibition include Amrit Mahotsav of Independence and New India, women power, youth power, nature and wildlife, and culture and history of India.
The Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan, Secretary, Department of Posts, Vineet Pandey, Director General Postal Services, Alok Sharma were present on the occasion.
Commemorative Postage Stamp
The Department of Posts also released a commemorative postage stamp on the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence.
This stamp has been prepared from the best entries of the National Comprehensive Design Competition in which more than 4 lakh students participated.
The competition was organised on an all India basis in collaboration with the Department of School Education and Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
