Subroto Cup International Football Tournament begins in New Delhi

The Subroto Cup International Football Tournament kicked off today on 6 September evening in New Delhi.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

  • The 61st edition of the tournament will be staged across four venues in Delhi till 13th of October.
  • The first match of the tournament is being played between NCC vs Chandigarh.

  • The matches of the tournament will be played at Dr BR Ambedkar Stadium, Tejas Football Ground, Subroto Park and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

  • It has not been organised for two years due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

  • The tournament will be organised in three categories including sub-junior boys (U-14), junior girls (U-17) and junior boys (U-17).

  • A total of 92 teams will participate in the three categories, in which an international team will also participate in the junior boys' section as a team from Bangladesh.

Subroto Cup International Football Tournament :

  • It is an annual school football tournament that was inaugurated in 1960 by the first Indian Air Force Chief, Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee.

  • It is organised by Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society (SMSES) and the Indian Air Force.

  • It has been the basis for the achievements of many former Indian football stalwarts like Shyam Thapa and Bhaichung Bhutia.

  • International stalwarts such as Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos (both in 2016) and Pele (2015) have graced the tournament as guest of honor in its earlier editions.

Prize of Tournament :

  • The total prize money of the tournament is more than Rs 23 lakh.

  • In addition, a selection committee of eminent footballers will select 25 outstanding players in each category to award the scholarship.

  • All the selected players will be awarded a scholarship (one-time grant) of Rs 25000 in Junior Boys and Junior Girls category and Rs 15000 for Sub-Junior Boys category.
