• World Bee Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Slovenian beekeeper Anton Jansa, the pioneer of modern beekeeping.

• He was born on 20 May 1734.

• In 2016, Slovenia proposed celebrating World Bee Day on 20 May each year.

• The first World Bee Day was observed on 20 May 2018.

• Bees play a major role in maintaining the balance between humans, plants, animals and the environment.
