1. Mumtaz Khan named FIH women's rising player of year 2021-22

Young India Hockey player Mumtaz Khan was named the FIH Women's Rising Star of the Year 2021-22 on 4 October 2022. Mumtaz Khan who hails from Lucknow was rewarded for her brilliant performance at the FIH 2021 junior women World Cup in South Africa.
The 19 year old Mumtaz scored eight goals in six matches of the tournament. India finished fourth in the tournament which was won by Netherlands.
Mumtaz Khan is the third Indian woman to win the award after Lalremsiami in 2019 and Sharmila Devi in 2020-21.
In the men’s category, Vivek Sagar Prasad has won the honour in both 2019 and 2020-21.

2. Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw and Kenya’s Amos Kipruto wins London Marathon 2022

The 23-year-old Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw became the youngest winner of the women’s race at the 42nd London marathon, while the Kenyan Amos Kipruto won the men’s section. The London marathon, which is usually held in the month of April every year, was held on 2 October 2022 due to covid.
The London Marathon, like all marathon races, has a distance of 42.195 kilometres (26.219 miles) long.
This year many leading marathon runners did not participate in the London marathon. The male world record holder Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya opted out of the race while the women’s world record holder Kenyan Brigid Koskei was ruled out due to injury.
The men's and women's winners receive a prize money of $55,000.
3. Virat Kohli the first Indian to score 11000 runs in T20

Former Indian cricket captain, Virat Kohli became the first Indian batsman to make 11,000 runs in the T20 format. He crossed the milestone in the 2nd T20 International match against the South African side at the Barsapara cricket stadium, Guwahati, Assam on 2 October 2022.
He scored 49 unbeaten runs in India's total of 237 for 3 in 20 overs .India won the match by 16 runs to go up 2-0 in the three match series.
Virat Kohli is now at the 4th spot in the list of batsmen with most runs in T20s. The list is topped by Chris Gayle of West Indies, who has 14562 runs in 463 matches. Kieron Pollard sits at the 2nd spot with 11915 runs in 614 matches and. Shoaib Malik of Pakistan is at the 3rd spot and has 11902 in 481 matches.

In the Road Safety World Series T20 2022, Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends team created history by defeating Sri Lanka Legends by 33 runs in Raipur on 1 September. The team won this title for the second time in a row.

8. 129 football fans dies in a stampede at football match in Indonesia

At least 129 people were killed and dozens injured in a stampede after violence broke out at a football match held on 1 October 2022 in Indonesia. The incident occurred during a football match of Indonesian top league BRI Liga 1 at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang Regency in East Java.
According to the police, supporters from the losing side Arema FC invaded the pitch following a match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya, leading to a stampede and cases of suffocation.
The league has suspended games for a week following the riot and the Arema FC team has also been prohibited from hosting any matches for the rest of the competition this season.
