• Pankaj Kumar Singh, a 1988 batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed on re-employment contract. He retired as the BSF chief on December 31, 2022.
• He had earlier served as Inspector General of CRPF in Chhattisgarh and IG (Operations) at CRPF Headquarters in Delhi.
• He also worked in BSF before becoming BSF DG.
• As head of the Eastern Frontier, he played a key role in reducing cattle smuggling through the borders of West Bengal and Assam.
• There has been an 87% decline in cattle smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border between 2015 and 2021.
• She was also instrumental in demonstrating motorcycle riding acrobatics to women soldiers of the BSF at the Republic Day parade.
• His fatherPrakash Singh,a retired 1959 batch IPS officer, also headed the BSF from June 1993 to January 1994.
• Pankaj Singh is considered the architect of police reforms in the country.

• बीएसएफ डीजी बनने से पहले उन्होंने बीएसएफ में भी काम किया था।

• The main program of the B-20 Founding Meeting prepared by the B-20 India Secretariat in accordance with the theme of the conference"R.A.I.S.E: Responsible, Accelerated, Innovative, Sustainable and Equitable Businesses".

Vietnam's President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has submitted his resignation on January 17 after the ruling Communist Party found him responsible for corruption, scandals and wrongdoings.

A new exoplanet named LHS 475b has been discovered by the James Webb Space Telescope of theNational Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Important Points-

LHS 475b

• It is roughly the same size as Earth, with a diameter of 99% that of Earth.
• It is a celestial, rocky planet located approximately 41 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Octane.
• It differs from Earth in two respects, first that it completes one orbit in only two days and secondly it is hundreds of degrees hotter than Earth.
• It is closer to Earth than any other planet in our solar system.
• It orbits very close to a red dwarf star and completes a complete orbit in just two days.

Exoplanet:

• Exoplanets are planets that orbit other stars and are away from our solar system. The first confirmation of the detection of an exoplanet was in the year 1992.
• According to NASA, more than 5,000 exoplanets have been discovered so far.

The National Council of Education Research and Training has notified India's first national assessment regulator, PARKH," with the aim of setting up assessment guidelines for all boards.

• PARAKH stands for Performance Assessment , Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development.
• It will act as a component of NCERT.
• It is also entrusted with the task of conducting periodic learning outcome tests like National Achievement Survey (NAS) and State Achievement Survey.

The 21st edition of the India-France bilateral naval exercise "Varuna" is scheduled for January 16, 2023 off the west coast of India.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) has listed Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) in the list of protected plants under Schedule III of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

• According to the Environment Ministry, those who uproot or destroy the plant will be fined Rs 25,000 and imprisoned for three years.
• Cultivation and possession of this plant is not allowed.

About Neelakurunji-

• Neelakurinji is a tropical plant species and is native to the Shola Forests in the Western Ghats.
• It is also found in Shevaroy Hills in the Eastern Ghats, Annamalai Hills in Kerala and Sanduru Hills in Karnataka.
• It grows on mountain slopes at an altitude of 1300 to 2400 meters to a height of 30 to 60 cm.
• The flowers of Neelakurinji are violet-blue in color and bloom once in 12 years. The flower has no scent or any medicinal value.
• Because of these flowers, the Nilgiri Hills of the southern tip of the Western Ghats are called the Blue Mountains.
• It is one of the rarest plant species that grows in the Western Ghats and does not grow in any other part of the world.
• It is classified as an endangered species.

• यह पूर्वी घाट में शेवरॉय पहाड़ियों, केरल में अन्नामलाई पहाड़ियों और कर्नाटक में सैंडुरु पहाड़ियों में भी पाया जाता है।
• यह 1300 से 2400 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर पहाड़ी ढलानों पर 30 से 60 सेंटीमीटर की ऊंचाई पर उगता है।
• नीलकुरिंजी के फूल बैंगनी-नीले रंग के होते हैं और 12 साल में एक बार खिलते हैं। फूल की कोई गंध या कोई औषधीय महत्व नहीं है।

Nalanda Mahavihara site complex

• Nalanda was a Mahavihara, a large Buddhist monastery in the ancient kingdom of Magadha (modern Bihar) in India.
• It is considered by historians to be the world's first residential university and one of the largest centres of learning in the ancient world.
• It was established during the Gupta Empire period.

• 2021 में,चीन ने 26.27 मिलियन वाहनों की बिक्रीके साथवैश्विक ऑटो बाजार में शीर्षपर है।
• 15.4 मिलियन वाहनों की बिक्री के साथअमेरिका दूसरे स्थानपर रहा, उसके बाद जापान 4.44 मिलियन यूनिट्स के साथ रहा।
• निक्केई एशिया के अनुसार, चीन 2006 में जापान से आगे बढ़कर दूसरा सबसे बड़ा ऑटो बाजार बन गया।
• 2009 में, चीन ने दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा ऑटो बाजार बनने के लिए अमेरिका को पीछे छोड़ दिया।

Ghaziabad - Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay section(762 KM) becomes the longestfully automatic block signalling sectionof Indian Railways. 

An overview of the news: 

• After commissioning of automatic signalling system in Satanraini-Rasulabad-Faizullapur section of Prayagraj division, 762 kilometre long Ghaziabad-Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay section has become fully automated.
• With this it has also become the longest Automatic Block Signalling section of Indian Railways.
• Indian Railways is introducing Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) on a mission mode.
• ABS has been commissioned on 268 RKM during 2022-23.
• ABS has been provided on 3706 route kms of Indian Railways till 31st December 2022.
• With the implementation of automatic signalling, there will be an increase in capacity resulting in the introduction of more train services.
• Electronic interlocking is being adopted on a large scale to take advantage of digital technologies in train operations and to enhance safety.

What is Automatic Block Signalling (ABS)?

• It is automatic and works in conjunction with track circuiting or other means to detect the presence of a train in a block section.

• To increase line capacity to run more trains on existing high density routes of Indian Railways, Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) is a cost effective solution.
• Electronic interlocking systems have been introduced at 347 stations during 2022-23.
• Electronic interlocking has been provided to 2888 stations covering 45.5% IR by 31st December 2022.

• प्रयागराज मंडल केसतनरैनी-रसूलाबाद-फैजुल्लापुर सेक्शनमें ऑटोमैटिक सिग्नलिंग प्रणाली शुरू होने के बाद 762 किलोमीटर लंबा गाजियाबाद -पं. दीन दयाल उपाध्याय सेक्शन पूर्णतया स्वचालित हो गया है। 
• इसके साथ ही यह भारतीय रेल कासबसे लंबा ऑटोमैटिक ब्लॉक सिग्नलिंग (एबीएस) सेक्शनभी बन गया है।
• भारतीय रेलवे एक मिशन मोड पर स्वचालित ब्लॉक सिग्नलिंग शुरू कर रहा है। 
• एबीएस को 2022-23 के दौरान 268 आरकेएम पर चालू किया गया है। 
• 31 दिसंबर 2022 तक भारतीय रेल के 3706 रूट किमी पर एबीएस प्रदान किया गया है। 
• स्वचालित सिग्नलिंग के कार्यान्वयन के साथ, क्षमता में वृद्धि होगी जिसके परिणामस्वरूप अधिक ट्रेन सेवाएं शुरू होना संभव होगा।

• भारतीय रेलवे के मौजूदा उच्च घनत्व वाले मार्गों पर और अधिक ट्रेनें चलाने के लिए लाइन क्षमता बढ़ाने के लिए, स्वचालित ब्लॉक सिग्नलिंग (एबीएस) एक लागत प्रभावी समाधान है।
