A new Centrally Sponsored Scheme named 'New India Literacy Programme' has been launched with a financial outlay of Rs.1037.90 crore during the financial year 2022-23 to 2026-27.

Important Points:

• The scheme aims to make literate five crore illiterates in the age group of 15 years and above.
• Beneficiaries under this scheme are identified through door to door survey on mobile app by the surveyors in the States and Union Territories.
• Illiterate can avail the benefits of the scheme through direct registration from any place through mobile app.
• The program has been launched for the period FY 2022-2027 to align with the National Education Policy 2020 and cover all aspects of adult education.

Union Minister for Rural Development Giriraj Singh initiates ‘Captive Employment’ initiative under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY).

Important Points:

• 19 captive employers have been included in the unique initiative. It signed an MoU with the Ministry of Rural Development to train and place over 31,000 rural youth in subsidiaries under the DDU-GKY scheme.
• Captive employers will train rural poor youth and provide employment to the trained youth in their company or subsidiary.
• 10 candidates being trained under the DDU-GKY program and undergoing on-the-job training were handed over the appointment letters during the event.

केंद्रीय  ग्रामीण विकास मंत्री गिरिराज सिंह ने दीन  दयाल उपाध्याय कौशल योजना (डीडीयू-जीकेवाई) के तहत 'कैप्टिव रोजगार' पहल की शुरुआत की।

• इस पहल में 19 कैप्टिव नियोक्ताओं  को शामिल किया गया है। ये ग्रामीण विकास मंत्रालय के साथ  डीडीयू-जीकेवाई  योजना  के तहत 31,000 से अधिक ग्रामीण युवाओं को प्रशिक्षण देने और सहायक कंपनियों में रखने के लिए समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर किए।
• कैप्टिव नियोक्ता ग्रामीण गरीब युवाओं को प्रशिक्षित करेंगे और प्रशिक्षित युवाओं को अपनी कंपनी या अनुषंगी में रोजगार उपलब्ध कराएंगे।
• डीडीयू-जीकेवाई कार्यक्रम के तहत प्रशिक्षित किए जा रहे और ऑन-जॉब ट्रेनिंग से गुजर रहे 10 उम्मीदवारों को कार्यक्रम के दौरान नियुक्ति पत्र सौंपे गए।

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued a circular suggesting"Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPI)"charges on merchant transactions onUnified Payments Interface (UPI).

Important Points:

• NPCI has introduced an interchange charge of up to 1.1 per cent on merchant UPI transactions done using prepaid payment instruments from April 1.

• It will be levied on UPI payments above Rs 2,000 made to online merchants, large merchants and small merchants.

• NPCI has clarified that there will be no charges for UPI payment from bank account to bank account or normal UPI payment.
• With UPI, customers will have the option of using any bank account, RuPay credit card and prepaid wallet on a UPI-enabled app.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)

• NPCI, an umbrella organization for operating retail payment and settlement systems in India, has been initiated by the 'RBI' and the 'Indian Banks' Association' (IBA) under the 'Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007'.
• It is a 'not-for-profit' company established under the provisions of Section 25 of the Companies Act 1956 (as amended in 2013), with the objective of providing physical and electronic payment infrastructure to the entire banking system in India.

The second agricultural representative meeting of the Agriculture Working Group (AWG) was held in Chandigarh from 29 to 31 March 2023.

• The meeting was also attended by representatives of 19 member states and 10 invited countries and 10 international organizations along with India.
• The meeting is an important platform for the member countries to come together and discuss ways to ensure sustainable agriculture, food security and nutrition.
• On the second and third day of the second meeting of agricultural representatives, the member countries prepared a draft communique, which would be related to meeting the needs and solving the problems of the four thematic areas.
• These include food security and nutrition, sustainable agriculture with a climate smart approach, inclusive agriculture, value chain and food systems and digitization for agricultural transformation.

For the first time in the country, the Punjab and Haryana High Court used artificial intelligence-based ChatGPT (ChatGPT) during the hearing of the bail plea in the murder case .

Important Points:

• Justice Anoop Chitkara used ChatGPT to assess the worldwide outlook on bail in a murder case.
• He asked AI tool ChatGPT 'What is the jurisprudence on bail when the assailants brutally attack?'
• ChatGPT then offered a comprehensive three-paragraph reply on bail jurisprudence in such cases. On the basis of which the court refused the bail and dismissed the petition.

ChatGPT: 

• It is a natural language processing tool powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that allows chatbots to do much more than just have human-like conversations.
• ChatGPT was created by OpenAI,  research company.

देश में पहली बार पंजाब एवं हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट ने 27 मार्च को हत्या के केस में जमानत याचिका पर सुनवाई के दौरान आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस आधारित चैटजीपीटी (ChatGPT) का उपयोग किया।

महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु:

• जस्टिस अनूप चितकारा ने हत्या के मामले में जमानत पर विश्वव्यापी दृष्टिकोण का आकलन करने के लिए चैटजीपीटी का उपयोग किया।  
• उन्होंने AI टूल ChatGPT से पूछा 'जब हमलावरों ने क्रूरता से हमला किया तो जमानत पर न्यायशास्त्र क्या है?'

The first joint conference of army chiefs from India and African countries was held in Pune on March 28.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has informed on 28 March that India's total exports have crossed US$ 750 billion which is the highest ever.

Important Points:

• In 2021-22, the country's merchandise and services exports are set to reach an all-time high of US$ 422 billion and US$ 254 billion, respectively.
• Exports fell by 8.82 per cent in February 2022, while imports fell by 8.21 per cent, the biggest decline in more than two years.

वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने 28 मार्च को जानकारी दी है कि भारत का कुल निर्यात 750 बिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर को पार कर गया है जो अब तक का सर्वोच्च है।

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) Researchers have developed a three-dimensional (3D) paper-based portable device that can detect adulteration in milk within 30 seconds. 

Important Points:

• This new technology can be used at home and only one millilitre of the liquid sample is required to test for adulteration.
• The device can detect various commonly used adulterant agents such as detergent, soap, hydrogen peroxide, urea, starch, salt, and sodium-hydrogen-carbonate.
• This new technology is cost-effective as compared to the traditional methods for testing the purity of milk which are expensive and time-consuming.
• This new technology can also be used to test other liquids such as water, fresh juices and milkshakes.

‘Ironman’ and IPS officer Krishna Prakash achieved another milestone, by becoming the first person to swim from the Gateway of India (located at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Marg in South Mumbai) to the famed Elephanta Caves (located at the Elephanta Island in Mumbai Harbour).

Important Points:

• This task was completed by Krishna Prakash, posted as Inspector General of Police in the VIP Security Department in Mumbai, as an adventurous sea swimming expedition on 27 March. He covered  16.20 kilometres within five hours, and 26 minutes.
• He had earlier completed the gruelling Ironman and Ultraman triathlon competitions.

Gateway of India

• It is a monument in Mumbai which was completed in 1924.
• It is located on the port side of the Arabian Sea in the Apollo Bunder area of South Mumbai.
• It marks the major ports of India and is a major tourist attraction for first-time visitors to India.
• It was designed in 1911 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary.

About Elephanta Caves

• A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Elephanta Caves are a specimen of rock-cut art and architecture from the time of medieval India. The caves are located on the Elephanta or Gharapuri island which is situated at a distance of 11 km from Mumbai city.

• यह कार्य मुंबई में वीआईपी सुरक्षा विभाग में पुलिस महानिरीक्षक के पद पर तैनात कृष्ण प्रकाश ने 27 मार्च को एक साहसिक समुद्र तैराकी अभियान के रूप में पूरा किया। उन्होंने पांच घंटे और 26 मिनट में 16.20 किलोमीटर की दूरी तय की।
• उन्होंने पहले भीषण आयरनमैन और अल्ट्रामैन ट्रायथलॉन प्रतियोगिताओं को पूरा किया था।

गेटवे ऑफ इंडिया:

• यह मुंबई में एक स्मारक है जो 1924 में बनकर तैयार हुआ था।

एलीफेंटा गुफा: 

• यूनेस्को की विश्व धरोहर स्थल, एलिफेंटा की गुफाएं मध्यकालीन भारत के समय से रॉक-कट कला और वास्तुकला का एक नमूना है। गुफाएँ एलिफेंटा या घारापुरी द्वीप पर स्थित हैं जो मुंबई शहर से 11 किमी की दूरी पर स्थित है।

The first joint conference of army chiefs of India and African countries was held in Pune on 28 March2023.

Important Points:

• The Chief Guest Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Manoj Pandey were present in the conference.

  Army chiefs of 10 countries were present in this conference along with 31 representatives of African countries.

  The main objective of this conference is to target African countries as a market for defense products.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 March inaugurated the much-awaited Whitefield - KR Puram metro line in Bengaluru.

Important Points:

• With this 13.71 km stretch with 12 stations, Bengaluru Metro has a connectivity of 69.66 km with 63 stations, making it the second largest network in the country after the Delhi Metro.
• The Rs 4,249-crore project will reduce travel time between Whitefield and KR Puram by 22 minutes and is expected to increase passenger traffic by 1.5 lakh.
• Delhi has 348 km line, Bengaluru has 69 km and Hyderabad 67 km metro network.
• The Whitefield-KR Puram Metro Line is an extension of the existing Purple Line (the metro's east-west corridor).

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने 25 मार्च को बेंगलुरु में बहुप्रतीक्षित व्हाइटफील्ड - केआर पुरम मेट्रो लाइन का शुभारंभ किया।

• 12 स्टेशनों के साथ इस 13.71 किमी के विस्तार के साथ, बेंगलुरु मेट्रो के पास 63 स्टेशनों के साथ 69.66 किमी की कनेक्टिविटी है, जो इसे दिल्ली मेट्रो के बाद देश में दूसरा सबसे बड़ा नेटवर्क बनाती है।
• 4,249 करोड़ रुपये की यह परियोजना व्हाइटफील्ड और केआर पुरम के बीच यात्रा के समय को 22 मिनट तक कम कर देगी तथा इससे 1.5 लाख यात्रियों के बढ़ने की उम्मीद है।
• दिल्ली में 348 किलोमीटर लाइन है, बेंगलुरु में 69 किलोमीटर और हैदराबाद में 67 किलोमीटर मेट्रो नेटवर्क है।
• व्हाइटफ़ील्ड-केआर पुरम मेट्रो लाइन मौजूदा पर्पल लाइन (मेट्रो के पूर्व-पश्चिम कॉरिडोर) का विस्तार है।
