IT Industry body Nasscom has appointed Anant Maheshwari, president of Microsoft India, as its chairperson for 2023-24 on 25th April.

Important Points:

• Maheshwari, who was Nasscom's vice-chairperson, succeeds Krishnan Ramanujam, the president of business and technology services at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). 
• Nasscom also announced the appointment of Rajesh Nambiar, chairman and managing director of Cognizant India as its vice-chairperson for 2023-24.
• In addition, NASSCOM also announced its Executive Council for 2023-2025.
• The council will aim to play a key role in driving India's tech sector at a time when macroeconomic challenges have significantly dampened growth prospects for the current financial year.
• The newly appointed leadership will lead the industry to meet its broad objectives of achieving the vision of becoming a $500 billion industry by 2030. Currently, the size of the industry is $245 billion.

The 11th high level meeting between the Indian Coast Guard and the Korean Coast Guard was held in New Delhi on 25 April.

• The Gujarat government is celebrating SWAGAT week to mark the successful completion of 20 years of this initiative.
• It was started by the Prime Minister in April 2003, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

The fourth meeting of the India-Mozambique Joint Defense Working Group was held in New Delhi on 25 April.

• The meeting was co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defense and Casimiro Augusto Muio, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of National Defense of Mozambique.
• Both sides discussed a wide range of issues including military training, exercises, medicine and capacity building with a view to deepening defense ties.
• The Indian side highlighted the country's growing capabilities in the field of defense production and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral military ties.
• The Mozambican side held separate talks with representatives of the defense industry.
• The Indian side assured Mozambique of India's continued support and commitment to a strong bilateral defense relationship.

Madhya Pradesh government has announced to develop Gandisagar Wildlife Sanctuary as a new habitat for cheetahs.

• According to wildlife experts, due to the increase in the number of cheetahs in Kuno National Park, there will not be enough space left for them, so it is necessary to shift them to another place.
• Gandisagar Wildlife Sanctuaryhas vast open spaces and grasslands surrounded by shrubs, which is an ideal landscape for cheetahs.
• Gandisagar Wildlife Sanctuaryis located in north-western Madhya Pradesh (Mandsaur and Neemuch districts) near the Rajasthan border.
• It was notified as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1974.

Former Chief Minister of Punjab and senior leader ofShiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Parkash Singh Badalpassed away at the age of 95 on 25 April 2023.

• Parkash Singh Badal was born on 8 December 1927 at Abul Khurana near Malout.
• He entered the state assembly from Malout in 1957 as a Congress candidate.
• In 1969, entered the Vidhansabha from Gidderbaha seat on SAD ticket and was elected MLA 11 times, lost only twice.
• He became the Chief Minister of Punjab in 1970, leading a coalition government for the first time. However, the government did not complete its term.
• Badal was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1977 to 1980, 1997 to 2002, 2007 to 2012 and 2012 to 2017.
• He was known for his role in the Punjab insurgency and peace talks with militants in the 1990s.
• He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award, in 2015.

पर्यटन मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार, पर्यटन विभाग, राजस्थान सरकार के सहयोग से, 23 से 25 अप्रैल, 2023 तक जयपुर में G-20 टूरिज्म एक्सपो का आयोजन किया। इसे भारत की G-20 प्रेसीडेंसी और आजादी का अमृत महोत्सव अमृत काल के अवसर पर आयोजित किया गया।

• पर्यटन मंत्रालय ने भारत भर में 50 नए पर्यटन स्थलों को विकसित करने और पर्यटन को बढ़ावा देने के लिए विदेशी बाजारों में प्रचार शुरू करने की योजना बनाई।
• महामारी से उत्पन्न चुनौतियों के बावजूद भारत ने 2022 में 6.19 मिलियन विदेशी पर्यटकों का आगमन दर्ज किया, जो 2021 में 1.52 मिलियन की तुलना में 305% की वृद्धि है।
• नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय ने उड़ान योजना के तहत अनुशंसित 59 पर्यटन मार्गों में से 51 को चालू कर दिया है।
• राजस्थान सरकार पर्यटन को बढ़ावा देने और रोजगार के अवसर पैदा करने के लिए अपनी नई शुरू की गई G20 टूरिज्म एक्सपो का आयोजन ग्रेट इंडियन ट्रैवल बाजार (GITB) के 12वें संस्करण के साथ किया गया, जो भारत में इनबाउंड टूरिज्म के सबसे बड़े आयोजनों में से एक है।

History of International Delegates Day

• It marks the anniversary of the first day of the San Francisco Conference in 1945.
• The purpose of the conference was to establish an organisation that would restore world peace and impose rules on the post-war world order.
• The founding member states of the United Nations were representatives of the 50 countries that attended the conference, with Poland later signing the charter, bringing the number of founding member states to 51.
• In 2019, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 25 April as the International Day of Delegates, commemorating the achievement of the San Francisco Conference.

• The primary focus of thesummit is to examine the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, which have been continuously enriched by the practice of Buddhism over the centuries.
• Prominent Buddhist monks from various countries came to India for the first time and participated in the summit.
• The summit will explore how Buddhist philosophy and thought can help address contemporary challenges.

City Union Bank (CUB)launched India's firstVoice Biometric Authentication banking appfor its mobile banking app which uses it to improve security.

Important Points:

• The purpose of this feature isto provide an additional layer of security to customers while logging into their accounts.
• Currently the Voice Biometric Authentication login option is available only for Mobile Banking App users. Customers will have multiple authentication methods to choose from, including User ID/PIN, Face ID, fingerprint authentication and now voice biometric authentication.
• The Voice Biometric Authentication feature was developed in collaboration with M/s Kaizen Secure Voice Pvt Ltd, a Chennai based start-up and 5G Use Case Lab of Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT).
• The technology has received support from the Department of Telecommunications and the Department of Financial Services.
• The launch of the Voice Biometric Authentication facility came a day after CUB reported its provisional business figures, in which the total business increased from Rs 88,846 crore to Rs 96,347 crore.

Kerala is the first state in the country to adopt “Water Budget”.

Important Points:

• The water budgetwill help the state to ascertain the demand and supply of water resource and apportion it accordingly.
• The first phase of the water budget covers 94 gram panchayats in 15 block panchayats, and was unveiled by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
• The water budget will be prepared by a committee of various experts along with the Center for Water Resources Development and Management and the state water resources department.
• About 7,290 km of irrigation network has already been rejuvenated under Phase I and II of the project.

• Ideas were shared on innovative practices, technologies and future prospects for cooperation in the field of prevention and elimination of emergency situations.
• Based on these consultations, Member-States will within the framework of the SCO enhance cooperation in the field of preparedness, emergency response and jointly mitigate the impact arising from natural and man-made disasters.
• India has been actively participating in the SCO and providing substantial support to various mechanisms in the Forum.
• India is focusing on initiating proposals of mutual benefit to SCO member states, observers and dialogue partners.
