Chennaihas emerged as one of the top digital payment transaction cities in the country in 2022, according to a report by payment services firm Worldline India.

• In terms of volume, according to Worldline India, Chennai has done 14.3 million transactions with a value of USD 35.5 billion.
• Bengaluru tops with 29 million transactions worth USD 65 billion, followed by New Delhi 19.6 million transactions worth USD 50 billion, Mumbai (18.7 million transactions worth USD 49.5 billion), Pune (15 million transactions worth USD 32.8 billion).
• In 2022, frequently visited physical merchant categories like grocery stores, restaurants, clothing and apparel, pharmacy, household appliances together accounted for over 43 per cent in terms of volume and about 40 per cent in terms of value, across the country.
• E-commerce space, gaming, utility and financial services contributed to over 85 per cent of transactions and 25 per cent in terms of value. 
• Education, travel and hospitality sector accounted for 15 per cent in volume and 75 per cent in terms of value.

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on 19th April launched the SATHI (Seed Traceability, Authentication and Holistic Inventory) Portal and Mobile App to deal with the challenges of seed production, quality seed identification, and seed certification.

• It has been created by NIC in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on the theme of 'Best Seeds - Prosperous Farmer'.
• The Government of India is constantly trying to overcome the challenges and difficulties faced by agriculture through various schemes and programmes.

On 16th April 2023, China successfully launched the Fengyun-3 meteorological satellite using Chang Zheng-4B carrier rocket from Jiuquan Cosmodrome in Gansu Province.

• The primary objective of the Fengyun-3 satellite is to monitor and provide information on severe weather conditions, especially heavy rainfall, which can cause natural disasters such as floods and landslides.
• This was the 471st mission for the Chang Zheng rocket family.
• The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) is a state-owned organization that serves as the primary contractor for China's space program.
• CASC has several subsidiaries that specialise in the design, development and manufacture of a variety of space-related technology, including spacecraft, launch vehicles, missile systems and ground equipment.
• The organisation is responsible for overseeing all aspects of China's space program, from research and development to mission planning and execution.

Kenya launched its first operational Earth observation satellite "Taifa-1" on a rocket of Elon Musk's rocket company ‘SpaceX’ from Vandenberg Base in California on 15 April 2023.

Important Points:

• The launch rocket carried 50 payloads from various countries, including Turkey, under SpaceX's 'rideshare programme'.
• Taifa-1 was designed and developed by SayariLabs and EnduroSat and the satellite was built over two years at a cost of 50 million Kenyan shillings ($372,000).
• The satellite's primary purpose is to collect agricultural and environmental data, including floods, droughts and wildfires, to help Kenya deal with disaster management and food insecurity.

Taifa-1

• It is an optical camera that can take pictures in both multispectral and panchromatic modes.
• The satellite can operate in and out of the visible light spectrum, allowing it to capture images even in low light conditions.
• Taifa-1 is capable of capturing images in five different multispectral bands.
• The Ground Sampling Distance (GSD) of Taifa-1 is 32 m for the multispectral band and 16 m for the panchromatic band.

About Pravasi Bhartiya Samman

• It is an award given by the Government of India to persons of Indian origin and diaspora who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.
• The award was instituted on 9 January 2003 coinciding with the celebrations of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, also known as Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
• Recipients of this award are selected on the basis of their achievements in various fields including science, business, arts and philanthropy.
• Pravasi Bharatiya Samman is considered to be the highest civilian award given by India to persons of Indian origin living outside the country.

प्रवासी भारतीय सम्मान के बारे में 

• यह भारत सरकार द्वारा भारतीय मूल के व्यक्तियों और डायस्पोरा को दिया जाने वाला एक पुरस्कार है जिन्होंने अपने संबंधित क्षेत्रों में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया है।
• यह पुरस्कार 9 जनवरी 2003 में प्रवासी भारतीय दिवस के समारोह के साथ स्थापित किया गया था, जिसे प्रवासी भारतीय दिवस के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।
• इस पुरस्कार के प्राप्तकर्ताओं को विज्ञान, व्यवसाय, कला और परोपकार सहित विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में उनकी उपलब्धियों के आधार पर चुना जाता है।
• प्रवासी भारतीय सम्मान देश के बाहर रहने वाले भारतीय मूल के व्यक्तियों को भारत द्वारा दिया जाने वाला सर्वोच्च नागरिक पुरस्कार माना जाता है।
• पुरस्कार का उद्देश्य अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय में भारत की छवि को बढ़ाने में भारतीय डायस्पोरा द्वारा किए गए योगदान को पहचानना और सम्मान देना है।

The48th meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG)was held on 18th April under the chairmanship of Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG)G. Asok Kumar. 

Important Points:

• Eight projects worth around Rs. 638 crorewere approved in the meeting.
• In an attempt toclean River Hindon, which is a tributary ofRiver Yamuna, four projects worth Rs 407.39 crore were approved for pollution abatement in the Shamli district. 
• These projects are part of the comprehensiveHindon Rejuvenation Plan. 
• Hindon river is identified as Priority 1 polluted river stretch. 
• The projects which were sanctioned are to prevent the flow of polluted water into Krishna River. 
• Krishni is one of the major tributaries of Hindon which discharges pollution from Shamli district into River Hindon.
• Two more sewerage management projects were approved in the meeting, one each in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
• In Bihar, a project for construction of 3 STPs (7 MLD, 3.5 MLD and 6 MLD in Zone 1 and 2 respectively) along with other works was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 77.39 crore.
• These projects will arrest the flow of polluted water into theKiul River,a tributary of the Ganges.

राष्ट्रीय स्वच्छ गंगा मिशन (एनएमसीजी) की कार्यकारी समिति की48वीं बैठक18 अप्रैल 2023 को राष्ट्रीय स्वच्छ गंगा मिशन (एनएमसीजी) के महानिदेशकजी. अशोक कुमारकी अध्यक्षता में हुई।

महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु:-

• बैठक में करीब638 करोड़ रुपये की आठ परियोजनाओंको मंजूरी दी गई।
• यमुना नदी की सहायक नदी हिंडन को साफ करने के प्रयास में,शामली जिलेमें प्रदूषण निवारण के लिए 407.39 करोड़ रुपये की चार परियोजनाओं को मंजूरी दी गई थी।
• ये परियोजनाएंव्यापक हिंडन कायाकल्प योजनाका हिस्सा हैं।
• हिंडन नदी की पहचान प्राथमिकता 1 प्रदूषित नदी खंड के रूप में की गई है।
• जिन परियोजनाओं को मंजूरी दी गई थी, वे कृष्णा नदी में प्रदूषित पानी के प्रवाह को रोकने के लिए हैं।
• कृष्णा हिंडन की प्रमुख सहायक नदियों में से एक है जो शामली जिले से प्रदूषण को हिंडन नदी में छोड़ती है।
• बैठक में दो और सीवरेज प्रबंधन परियोजनाओं को मंजूरी दी गई जिसमें बिहार और मध्य प्रदेश में एक-एक हैं।
• बिहार में, 3 एसटीपी (जोन 1 और 2 में क्रमशः 7 एमएलडी, 3.5 एमएलडी और 6 एमएलडी) के निर्माण की एक परियोजना को अन्य कार्यों के साथ 77.39 करोड़ रुपये की अनुमानित लागत से मंजूरी दी गई।
• ये परियोजनाएं गंगा की सहायक नदीकिउल नदीमें प्रदूषित पानी के प्रवाह को रोकेंगी।

Karnataka Bank has appointedSekhar Raoas theinterim Managing Director and CEO afterthe completion of the tenure of the current CEO.

Important Points:

• Mahabaleshwar M S, the current Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO) of Karnataka Bank, left the office on April 14 after the successful completion of his second term of three years.
• Rao takes over as interim MD & CEO with effect from April 15, 2023, subject to RBI approval on April 12, 2023.
• He has been appointed for a period of three months or till the appointment of a regular MD and CEO, whichever is earlier.

• कर्नाटक बैंक के वर्तमान प्रबंध निदेशक और मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (एमडी और सीईओ) महाबलेश्वर एम एस ने 14 अप्रैल को अपने तीन साल के दूसरे कार्यकाल के सफल समापन के बाद कार्यालय छोड़ दिया।
• राव ने 12 अप्रैल, 2023 को आरबीआई की मंजूरी मिलने के बाद 15 अप्रैल, 2023 से अंतरिम एमडी और सीईओ के रूप में पदभार ग्रहण किया।
• उन्हें तीन महीने की अवधि के लिए या नियमित एमडी और सीईओ की नियुक्ति तक, जो भी पहले हो, नियुक्त किया गया है।
