To boost the waterways network, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has planned several initiatives to develop ports in India at par with global standards.

• The ministry has planned an investment of Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 1,25,000 crore for capacity enhancement and development of world-class infrastructure at ports.
• Under the Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030, the government aims to create world-class mega ports and transshipment hubs.
• The container throughput of Indian ports stood at 17 million TEUs (Twenty Equipment Units) in the period 2020, while that of China stood at 245 million TEUs in the same period.
• The Maritime India Vision 2030, the plan is the master plan to ensure coordinated and accelerated development of India's maritime sector over the next decade.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched an online portal, “Family ID-One Family One Identity”, to make access to government schemes easier for the families of the state.

Important Points:

• Its objective is to provide free or subsidised ration to those families who do not have ration cards and are not eligible for the National Food Security Scheme.
• Through this, a comprehensive database of families will be prepared in the state.
• This ID will also be useful for other purposes. For example, a family member can use the ID to determine caste and apply for the same for a birth certificate.
• The National Food Security Scheme, which provides free or subsidised ration to people living in Uttar Pradesh, can also be availed through the portal.

उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने प्रदेश के परिवारों के लिए सरकारी योजनाओं तक पहुंच को आसान बनाने के लिए एक ऑनलाइन पोर्टल, "फैमिली आईडी-वन फैमिली वन आइडेंटिटी" शुभारंभ किया है।

• इसका उद्देश्य उन परिवारों को मुफ्त या किफायती राशन उपलब्ध कराना है जिनके पास राशन कार्ड नहीं है और जो राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा योजना के लिए पात्र नहीं हैं।
• इसके माध्यम से प्रदेश में परिवारों का एक व्यापक डेटाबेस तैयार किया जाएगा।
• इसके लिए बनाया गया आईडी अन्य उद्देश्यों के लिए भी उपयोगी होगी। जैसे- परिवार का सदस्य, जाति का निर्धारण करने के लिए आईडी का उपयोग कर सकता है और जन्म प्रमाण पत्र के लिए भी इसके लिए आवेदन कर सकता है।
• राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा योजना, जो उत्तर प्रदेश में रहने वाले लोगों को मुफ्त या किफायती राशन प्रदान करती है, का भी पोर्टल के माध्यम से लाभ उठाया जा सकता है।

Electronics & Information Technology and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnav launched the 'Digital Payments Utsav' in New Delhi .

• This festival campaign will be organized from February 9 to October 9, 2023.
  
• The 'Digital Payments Festival' has been launched with an aim to promote digital payments across the country.
• It will focus on G-20 Digital Economy Working Group event cities, namely Lucknow, Hyderabad, Pune, and Bengaluru.
• G-20 co-branded QR codes and a coffee table book showcasing India's journey to global leadership in digital payments and digital inclusion were released at the event.

A 43-day walking tour of sacred Buddhist sites in India and Nepal is being organized by the Sangwol Society of the Republic of Korea from February 9 to March 23, 2023.

Important Points:

• 108 Buddhist pilgrims from the Republic of Korea will travel over 1,100 kilometers in 43 days as part of the pilgrimage on foot.
• The aim of the pilgrimage is to enhance friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
• During the yatra, the pilgrims will pay obeisance at eight major Buddhist holy sites including Bodh Gaya, Nalanda University, Mahaparinirvana Temple (Kushinagar), Rajgir, Rambhar Stupa, Lumbini.

Indore Municipal Corporation has become the first civic body in the country to issue green bonds.

Important Points:

• The corporation plans to raise Rs 244 crore through green bonds.

• This amount will be used to set up a 60 MW solar plant at Juladh pumping station 'Hum Samraj' and 'Ashukhedi villages' on the banks of river Narmada falling in Khargone district with an investment of about Rs 305 crore.

• This bond of Indore Municipal Corporation opened between 10-14 February 2023.

Recently, Google has launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered chatbot named "Google Bard" to compete with ChatGPT.

• Bard is built on Google's existing language model LaMDA, the language model for the firm's Dialog Application System.
• According to Google, it will be used by a group of testers first, after which Bard will be introduced to the general public.
• Through Bard, users can access complex information in simple language as before, not only that but also get fresh, high-quality, and accurate information from Google's chatbot.

In the bi-monthly monetary policy review released by the Reserve Bank of India in February 2023, the GDP growth rate for the financial year 2023-24 has been estimated to be 6.40%.

• The Reserve Bank of India has increased the policy repo rate by 0.25 percent in the bi-monthly monetary policy review with the aim of bringing inflation under control.
• The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecast for the current financial year 2022-23 has been increased by RBI from 6.8 percent to 7 percent.
• At the same time, in the next financial year 2023-24, the growth rate in the gross domestic product (GDP) has been estimated to be 6.4 percent.
• RBI has estimated retail inflation to be 6.5 percent in the current financial year and 5.3 percent in the next financial year.
• The repo rate is the interest rate at which commercial banks borrow money from the central bank to meet their immediate needs.

India's first Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) truck was manufactured by Reliance Industries (RIL) in association with Ashok Leyland.

Important Points:

• India's first Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) truck was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 'India Energy Week'  2023 in Bengaluru.
• The H2-ICE truck is the first of its kind in India to be powered by hydrogen.
• The truck uses hydrogen instead of conventional diesel fuel or liquefied natural gas (LNG), reducing carbon emissions to almost zero. This emits only water and oxygen.
• The first H2-ICE was developed by Francois Isaac de Rivaz in the year 1806.

• The truck uses hydrogen instead of conventional diesel fuel or liquefied natural gas (LNG), reducing carbon emissions to almost zero. This emits only water and oxygen.

• बेंगलुरु में ‘इंडिया एनर्जी वीक’ 2023 के दौरान प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी द्वारा भारत का पहला हाइड्रोजन इंटरनल कम्बशन इंजन (H2-ICE) ट्रक प्रस्तुत किया गयाI 
  
• इसका विकास रिलायंस इंडस्ट्रीज (आरआईएल) द्वारा अशोक लेलैंड के साथ मिलकर किया गया है।
• H2-ICE ट्रक भारत में हाइड्रोजन द्वारा संचालित होने वाला अपनी तरह का पहला ट्रक है।
• ट्रक में परंपरागत डीजल ईंधन या तरलीकृत प्राकृतिक गैस (LNG) के स्थान पर हाइड्रोजन का इस्तेमाल होता है, जिससे कार्बन का उत्सर्जन लगभग शून्य हो जाता है। इससे सिर्फ पानी और ऑक्सीजन का ही उत्सर्जन होता है। 
• पहला H2-ICE वर्ष 1806 में फ्रेंकोइस इसाक डी रिवाज द्वारा विकसित किया गया था। 

An Earth observation satellite jointly developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and ISRO is named 'NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR)'. The satellite is to be launched by September, 2023.

Important Points:

• Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman S. Somnath recently visited NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California to oversee the final power test of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite before it is sent to India.
• It will provide important information on the Earth's crust, ice sheets and ecosystems.
• The NISAR spacecraft will be integrated into the satellite bus at the U.R. Rao Satellite Center for launch next year.

• यह पृथ्वी की सतह, बर्फ की चादर और पारिस्थितिक तंत्र पर महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी प्रदान करेगा।
• निसार अंतरिक्ष यान को अगले वर्ष प्रक्षेपण के लिए यू .आर. राव उपग्रह केंद्र में उपग्रह बस में एकीकृत किया जाएगा।

According to the Union Finance Ministry, India received the maximum foreign exchange from the United States during the financial year 2020-21.

Recently (in February 2023) Pakistan's wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
