The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted an ‘Infrastructure Finance Company (IFC)’ status to Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) on 13 March.

Important Points:

• It was earlier classified as ‘Investment and Credit Company (ICC)’.
• With IFC status, IREDA will be able to take higher exposure in renewable energy financing.
• The IFC status will help the company access a wider investor base to raise funds, resulting in competitive rates for raising funds.

On March 13, a high-level committee meeting chaired by Union Home MinisterAmit Shahapproved Rs 1,816.162 crore as additional central assistance tofive states (Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Meghalaya and Nagaland).

Important Points:

• This additional central assistance has been given under theNational Disaster Response Fund (NDRF)to five states affected byfloods, landslides, cloud burstsduring 2022.
• This additional assistance is in addition to the funds released by the Center to the states in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
• During the financial year 2022-23, the central government has released Rs 15,770.40 crore to 25 states in their SDRF and Rs 502.744 crore to 4 states from NDRF.

13 मार्च को केंद्रीय गृह मंत्रीअमित शाहकी अध्यक्षता में उच्च स्तरीय समिति की बैठक मेंपांच राज्यों(असम, हिमाचल प्रदेश, कर्नाटक, मेघालय और नागालैंड) को अतिरिक्त केंद्रीय सहायता के रूप में 1,816.162 करोड़ रुपये की मंजूरी दी गई।

• ये अतिरिक्त केंद्रीय सहायता 2022 के दौरानबाढ़, भूस्खलन, बादल फटनेसे प्रभावित पांच राज्यों कोराष्ट्रीय आपदा प्रतिक्रिया कोष (एनडीआरएफ)के तहत दी गई है।
• यह अतिरिक्त सहायता केंद्र द्वारा राज्यों को राज्य आपदा प्रतिक्रिया कोष (SDRF) में जारी की गई धनराशि के अतिरिक्त है।
• वित्तीय वर्ष 2022-23 के दौरान केंद्र सरकार ने 25 राज्यों को उनके एसडीआरएफ में 15,770.40 करोड़ रुपये और एनडीआरएफ से 4 राज्यों को 502.744 करोड़ रुपये जारी किए हैं।

International Day of Action for Rivers is celebrated every year on March 14 to save the existence of rivers and to make people aware about it. The theme of 2023 is “Rights of Rivers,” which calls for the designation of rivers as a national treasure.

Asia's first woman loco pilot Surekha Yadav has become the first woman to operate the newly introduced semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express train.

Important Points-

• Surekha Yadav piloted  the semi-high speed train between Solapur station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai on 13 March.
• The train left Solapur station on March 13 on schedule and reached CSMT five minutes before its scheduled arrival for a journey of over 450 km.
• Surekha Yadav, a resident of Satara in the western Maharashtra region, became India's first woman train driver in 1988.
• Central Railway has introduced two Vande Bharat Express trains on the CSMT-Solapur and CSMT-Sainagar Shirdi routes, which were flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 10, 2023.

एशिया की पहली महिला लोको पायलट सुरेखा यादव नई शुरू की गई  सेमी-हाई स्पीड  वंदे भारत एक्सप्रेस  ट्रेन को संचालित करने वाली पहली महिला बन गई हैं।

• मुंबई में सोलापुर स्टेशन और छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज टर्मिनस (CSMT) के बीच सेमी-हाई स्पीड ट्रेन का संचालन सुरेखा यादव ने 13 मार्च को किया है।
• सोलापुर स्टेशन से  13 मार्च को ट्रेन अपने निर्धारित समय पर रवाना हुई और 450 किलोमीटर से अधिक लंबी यात्रा के निर्धारित आगमन से पांच मिनट पहले सीएसएमटी पहुंची।
• पश्चिमी महाराष्ट्र क्षेत्र के सतारा की रहने वाली सुरेखा यादव 1988 में भारत की पहली महिला ट्रेन ड्राइवर बनीं।
• सेंट्रल रेलवे ने सीएसएमटी-सोलापुर और सीएसएमटी-साईनगर शिरडी रूट पर दो वंदे भारत एक्सप्रेस ट्रेनें शुरू की हैं, इन्हें ही 10 फरवरी, 2023 को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने हरी झंडी दिखाई थी।

According to Dr. Bhagwat Kisanrao Karad, Minister of State for Finance, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on March 14, since the launch of Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana in April 2015, more than 38 crore loans have been disbursed so far.

Important Points:

• He informed that out of this, more than 26 crore loans have been given to women entrepreneurs.
• About 20 crore loans have been disbursed to SC, ST, and OBC borrowers.
• The Ministry of Labor and Employment conducted a large sample survey at the national level to assess the employment generation under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.
• According to the results of the survey, 1 crore 12 lahks net additional employment has been generated in the country from 2015 to 2018 by this scheme.

14 मार्च को लोकसभा में एक प्रश्न के लिखित उत्तर में वित्त राज्य मंत्री डॉ. भागवत किसानराव कराड के अनुसार, अप्रैल 2015 में प्रधानमंत्री मुद्रा योजना की शुरुआत के बाद से अब तक 38 करोड़ से अधिक ऋण दिए गए हैं। 

महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु:

• उन्होंने बताया कि इसमें से 26 करोड़ से अधिक ऋण महिला उद्यमियों को दिए गए हैं। 
• लगभग 20 करोड़ ऋण अनुसूचित जाति, अनुसूचित जनजाति और अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग के कर्जदारों को दिए गए हैं।
• श्रम और रोजगार मंत्रालय ने प्रधान मंत्री मुद्रा योजना के तहत रोजगार सृजन का आकलन करने के लिए राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर एक बड़ा नमूना सर्वेक्षण किया था।
• सर्वेक्षण के परिणामों के अनुसार, इस योजना के द्वारा 2015 से 2018 तक देश में 1 करोड़ 12 लाख शुद्ध अतिरिक्त रोजगार पैदा किया गया है।

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have so far been given a loan ofRs 3 lakh 61 thousand croreunder theEmergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS).

About Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme

• It was announced as part of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Package in 2020.
• The scheme is under the operational domain of the Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services (DFS).
• Its objective is to help businesses including MSMEs to meet their operational liabilities and resume business in view of the distress caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
• It provides 100 percent guarantee to lending institutions for any losses incurred due to non-payment of ECLGS funding by borrowers.

• इसका उद्देश्य MSMEs सहित व्यवसायों को उनकी परिचालन देनदारियों को पूरा करने और COVID-19 संकट से उत्पन्न संकट के मद्देनजर व्यवसाय को पुनः आरंभ करने में मदद करना है।
• यह ऋण देने वाले संस्थानों को उधारकर्ताओं द्वारा ECLGS फंडिंग का भुगतान न करने के कारण होने वाले किसी भी नुकसान के लिए 100 प्रतिशत गारंटी प्रदान करता है।

In a further boost to achieve 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', the Ministry of Defense on March 13, 2023 signed a contract for General Refit of Sindhukirti Submarine at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam at a total cost of Rs 934 crore .

Important Points:

• Sindhukirti is the third Kilo class Diesel Electric Submarine.
• The project involves over 20 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and will generate employment of 1,000 man-days per day for the project duration.

INS Sindhukirti Submarine 

• It is a diesel-electric submarine.
• It has a displacement of 1860 tonnes when submerged and is 67.5 metres in length.

The first Supreme Audit Institution 20 Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) was  held on 13-15 March 2023 in Guwahati, Assam.

• The theme of this meeting  is 'Blue Economy' and 'Responsible Artificial Intelligence'.
• SAI20 aims to bring together the ecosystem in which SAIs are active participants in governance, promoting transparency and accountability in it.
• The SAI20 meeting was chaired by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Girish Chandra Murmu, and was also attended by senior representatives of equivalent institutions from G-20 countries.
• About 44 delegates from G-20 member states, guest countries and other international organizations participated in the SAI20 event. 
• Countries like Australia, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Oman, Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and United Arab Emirates participated individually.

The third edition of the multilateral exercise 'La Perouse' was held from 13 to 14 March 2023 in the Indian Ocean region.

Important Points:

• It saw the participation of personnel, ships, and integral helicopters from the Royal Australian Navy, French Navy, Indian Navy, Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, Royal Navy, and United States Navy.
• Indian Navy's indigenously built guided missile frigate INS Sahyadri and fleet tanker INS Jyoti participated in the exercise.
• Indian Navy's participation in the exercise reflects the high level of synergy, coordination, and interoperability between friendly navies and their commitment to a rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region.
• The first edition of this joint exercise was initiated by France in 2019.
• The biennial exercise La Perouse is organised by the French Navy.

An International Conference on "Shared Buddhist Heritage" was held on 14-15 March at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Important Points:

• The conference focused on India's civilizational connection with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) nations.

• It is the first of its kind event under India's leadership of SCO.

• The SCO summit is being hosted by India for a period of one year from September 17, 2022 to September 2023.

• To discuss the "Common Buddhist Heritage", it will bring Central Asian, East Asian, South Asian and Arab countries on a common platform.

• The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of External Affairs and the International Buddhist Confederation.

• Its main objective is to re-establish the trans-cultural link between Buddhist art, art styles, archaeological sites and antiquity of Central Asia in the collections of various museums in SCO countries.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has discovered a new antibacterial small molecule (IITR00693) that can help fight drug-resistant diseases.

Important Points:

• The molecule has shown substantial antibacterial action against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including some of the most difficult drug-resistant forms.
• The research was led by Prof Ranjana Pathania, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Roorkee.
• The discovery of this new molecule offers the potential for more effective and targeted therapies.
• IITR00693 acts like a double edged sword, it not only kills the most stubborn bacteria but also prevents the emergence of resistance.

Prithviraj Tondiman of India won the bronze medal at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup 2023 on March 11, 2023 in Doha, Qatar.

From March 6 to 10, a high-level delegation from the  Saudi Space Commission, led by  Dr. Mohammad Saud Al-Tamimi, CEO, visited India to discuss space cooperation.

Due to the crash of the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv fleet of the Indian Navy, the defence forces have halted the operation of ALH Dhruv helicopters till the investigation report comes.

Mount Merapi on the Indonesian island of Java, one of the world's most active volcanoes, erupted on March 12, sending an ash cloud 9,600 feet above the summit.

• The volcano is located on the island of Java near Yogyakarta, the cultural capital of Indonesia.
• Indonesia, which has about 130 active volcanoes, lies on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
• It was discovered by Mr. Morris in 1754 and is also known as the 'Mountain of Fire' because of its explosive nature.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) recently successfully carried out a controlled descent of its 12-year-old low earth orbit satellite Megha Tropiques-1 (MT-1) into the Pacific Ocean.

• Dropping this satellite on the earth was a very challenging task for ISRO, which ISRO successfully carried out.
• ISRO has been steadily reducing the distance of the satellite from Earth since August 2022.

• This satellite was launched in October 2011 by ISRO in collaboration with the French space agency CNES.
• The satellite was designed to provide weather information for three years, but it served for more than 10 years.

The song 'Naatu Naatu' from the Indian film RRR has won the Oscar in the Best Original Song category at the 95th Oscar Awards. Also the Indian entry 'The Elephant Whispers' won the Oscar in the Best Documentary Short Film category.
