• Every year on 23rd April,  Khongjom Day  is celebrated in Manipur.

IMPORTANT FACTS:

• This day is observed in the memory of the brave Manipur warriors who made the supreme sacrifice against the British in the battle of Khongjom during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.
•  The day is celebrated annually by the Government of Manipur at Khongjom War Memorial Complex located in Thoubal district .
• The Khongjom War Memorial Complex, a historic war memorial site , houses the world's tallest sword statue built in memory of the soldiers who fought in the war.

Anglo-Manipur War:

• The Anglo-Manipur War was an armed conflict between the  British Empire and the Kingdom of Manipur, fought from 31 March to 27 April 1891.
• This historic war started  due to jealousy, discontent, distrust and discord  among the princes of Manipur.
• This war was fought at  Kheba hills of Khongjom in Manipur and hence the name of this day is Khongjom Day  .
• After the war ended on 27 April 1891, Manipur was under direct control of the British.
• After this war, the British government prosecuted many people and sentenced them to death.

• प्रत्येक वर्ष 23 अप्रैल को मणिपुर में ‘खोंगजोम दिवस’ मनाया जाता है।

महत्त्वपूर्ण जानकारी:

• यह दिन, वर्ष 1891 के एंग्लो-मणिपुर युद्ध के दौरान खोंगजोम की लड़ाई में मणिपुर की स्वतंत्रता की रक्षा के लिए अंग्रेजों के विरूद्ध सर्वोच्च बलिदान देने वाले वीर मणिपुर के योद्धाओं की याद में मनाया जाता है।
• यह दिवस मणिपुर सरकार द्वारा थौबल जिले में स्थित खोंगजोम वार मेमोरियल कॉम्प्लेक्स में प्रतिवर्ष मनाया जाता है।
• खोंगजोम वार मेमोरियल कॉम्प्लेक्स, एक ऐतिहासिक युद्ध स्मारक स्थल है, जिसमे युद्ध में लड़े सैनिकों की याद में बनाई गई दुनिया की सबसे ऊंची तलवार की प्रतिमा है।

एंग्लो-मणिपुर युद्ध:

• एंग्लो-मणिपुर युद्ध, ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य तथा मणिपुर साम्राज्य के मध्य एक सशस्त्र संघर्ष था, जो 31 मार्च से 27 अप्रैल 1891 तक लड़ा गया था।
• इस ऐतिहासिक युद्ध की शुरुआत मणिपुर के राजकुमारों के मध्य ईर्ष्या, असंतोष, अविश्वास और कलह के कारण हुई थी।
• यह युद्ध मणिपुर के खोंगजोम की खेबा पहाड़ियों पर लड़ा गया था और इसलिये इस दिवस का नाम खोंगजोम दिवस है।
• 27 अप्रैल 1891 को युद्ध समाप्त होने के पश्चात मणिपुर पर अंग्रेज़ों का प्रत्यक्ष नियंत्रण हो गया था।
• इस युद्ध के बाद ब्रिटिश सरकार ने कई लोगों के विरुद्ध मुकदमा चलाया और उन्हें मृत्यु दंड दिया।
