Hockey India has announced drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh as the captain of the Indian men's hockey team for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup 2023.

Important Points-

• Amit Rohidas has been named as the vice-captain of the team. The coach of the team is Graham Reid.
• The FIH Men's Hockey World Cup is held every four years and the 2022 event was postponed to 2023 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The last 14th FIH Men's World Cup Hockey was also played in Odisha in 2018.
• The 15th FIH Men's World Cup will be held at the Kalinga Stadium Bhubaneswar and the newly constructed Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, Rourkela from 13-20 January 2023.
• The newly built Birsa Munda Stadium is the largest hockey stadium in India with a seating capacity of 20,000 people. 
• The final match will be played on 29 January 2023 at the Kalinga Stadium.
• This is the fourth time India is hosting the FIH Men's World Cup.

Every year 23 December is observed as National Farmers day or Kisan Diwas in India. The day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of the 5th Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh. 

• The day is observed to recognise and honour the contribution farmers make to our economy and society.

Background to the Day: 

• In 2001 the government of India declared to observe 23 December as the National Farmers day or Kisan Diwas to honour the kisan leader and the 5th prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charn Singh. Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on 23 December 1902 in Noorpur village of Meerut District ,Uttar Pradesh. 
• He was the Prime Minister of India  for 170 days,from 28 July 1979 to 14 January 1980. He is the only Prime Minister who never faced parliament while being the Prime Minister.
• He was  made the deputy Prime Minister of India in 1979 when Morarji Desai was the Prime Minister of India .
• He was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice . He became the chief minister for the first time ,3 April 1967- 25 February 1968.  He again became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh  on 18 February 1970- 1 October 1970.

• चौधरी चरण सिंह का जन्म 23 दिसंबर 1902 को उत्तर प्रदेश के मेरठ जिले के नूरपुर गांव में हुआ था।
• वह 28 जुलाई 1979 से 14 जनवरी 1980 तक 170 दिनों तक भारत के प्रधानमंत्री रहे। वे एकमात्र ऐसे प्रधानमंत्री हैं जिन्होंने प्रधानमंत्री रहते हुए कभी संसद नहीं गये थे।
• 1979 में उन्हें भारत का उप प्रधान मंत्री बनाया गया था जब मोरारजी देसाई भारत के प्रधान मंत्री थे।
• वे दो बार उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री रहे। वे पहली बार 3 अप्रैल 1967- 25 फरवरी 1968 मुख्यमंत्री बने। 18 फरवरी 1970- 1 अक्टूबर 1970 को वे पुनः उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री बने।

Kaikala Satyanarayana was associated with the film industry. 

Important points:

• Famous Telugu actor, producer, and director Kaikala Satyanarayana passed away in Hyderabad on 23 December 2022, he was 87 years old.
• Kaikala Satyanarayana is also known as Navaras Natana Sarvabhuma.
• He was born on 25 July 1935 in the Krishna district of  Andhra Pradesh.
• Kaikala Satyanarayana acted in about 750 films and was best known for his roles in  Kurukshetramu (1977), Dana Veera Sura Karna (1977), and  Sri Krishnarjuna Yudham (1963).
• He was also a Member of Parliament from the Telugu Desam Party.
• He was honored with several awards, including the R. Ghupathi Venkaiah Award (2011), the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for Telugu Cinema (2017), and the Andhra Pradesh Government's Nandi Film Awards.

On 17 December 2022, the Uttar Pradesh government has tied up with San Francisco's 'Austin University'  to make  'Knowledge Smart City' to improve the condition of higher education   . 

IMPORTANT FACTS: 

• In this agreement, it has been talked about setting up the world's best educational institutions and universities at one place. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Finance Minister and officials visiting the USA to bring investment proposals.
• This is a big success of the state government, in which the youth of the state will get opportunities for higher education in Uttar Pradesh itself.
• For the 'Global Investors Summit' to be held in Uttar Pradesh from February 10-12, 2023   , both the Deputy CM and Ministers of UP visited different countries. In addition to road shows, 'one to one' meetings were also held.
• This agreement has also been done between big investment proposals for employment, due to which big steps can be taken in the field of higher education in UP in the coming times.

KNOWLEDGE SMART CITY: 

• Knowledge Smart City will be built on 5,000 acres at a cost of Rs 35,000 crore . 
• According to the information given by Austin University President  Ashraf Ali Mustafa  , 'The world's best higher education and technical institutions will be included in this knowledge smart city. 
• For the first time such a project is being brought in India. This will not only provide opportunities to a large number of students here but will also change the entire picture of higher education.
• Also  Saloni Heart Foundation  signed the MoU in San Francesco in the presence of Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and Principal Secretary Industrial Development Arvind Kumar.
• Star Consortium will provide data center and logistics support in UP.
• SLG Group will build Capital Data Center.
• The UP Finance Minister and officials also met industry leaders and people of Indian origin who played a role in building the Silicon Valley in San Francisco.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: 

• Different ministers and officials have visited many countries so far for the Global Investors Summit to be held in February 2022.

17 दिसंबर 2022 को उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने उच्च शिक्षा की स्थिति में सुधार करने के लिए सैन फ्रांसिस्को की ‘ऑस्टिन यूनिवर्सिटी’ के साथ ‘नॉलेज स्मार्ट सिटी’ बनाने के लिए समझौता किया है। 

महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य: 

• इस समझौते में विश्व के सबसे बेहतरीन शिक्षण संस्थान और विश्वविद्यालय एक ही स्थान पर स्थापित करने की बात की गई है। निवेश के प्रस्तावों को लाने के लिए USA दौरे पर गए वित्त मंत्री और अधिकारियों की उपस्थिति में ये करार हुआ।
• ये प्रदेश सरकार की ये एक बड़ी सफलता है, जिसमें प्रदेश के युवाओं को उत्तर प्रदेश में ही उच्च शिक्षा के अवसर मिलेंगे।
• 10-12 फ़रवरी 2023 तक उत्तर प्रदेश में होने वाले ‘ग्लोबल इन्वेस्टर्ज़ समिट’ के लिए यूपी के दोनों डिप्टी सीएम और मंत्री अलग-अलग देशों के दौरे पर पहुंचे। उसमें रोड शो के अलावा 'वन टू वन' मीटिंग्स भी हुईं।

• 35 हज़ार करोड़ रु की लागत से 5, 000 एकड़ में नॉलेज स्मार्ट सिटीबनाया जाएगा।
• ऑस्टिन यूनिवर्सिटी प्रेसिडेंट अशरफ़ अली मुस्तफ़ा की ओर से दी गई जानकारी के अनुसार, ‘इस नॉलेज स्मार्ट सिटी में विश्व के सबसे अच्छे उच्च शिक्षा और तकनीकी संस्थानों को शामिल किया जाएगा। 
• पहली बार भारत में इस तरह का कोई प्रोजेक्ट लाया जा रहा है। इससे यहां बड़ी संख्या में छात्रों को न सिर्फ़ अवसर मिलेगा बल्कि उच्च शिक्षा की पूरी तस्वीर बदल जाएगी।
• इसके अलावा सलोनी हार्ट फ़ाउंडेशन ने सैन फ़्रैन्सेस्को में वित्त मंत्री सुरेश खन्ना और औद्योगिक विकास के प्रमुख सचिव अरविंद कुमार की मौजूदगी में एमओयू पर हस्ताक्षर किए।
• यूपी में स्टार कन्सॉरटियम डेटा सेंटर और लजिस्टिक्स सहयोग देगा।
• एसएलजी गुप कैपिटल डेटा सेंटर बनाएगा।
• यूपी के वित्त मंत्री और अधिकारी सैन फ्रांसिस्को में सिलिकन वैली के निर्माण में भूमिका निभाने वाले उद्योग जगत की हस्तियों और भारतीय मूल के लोगों से भी मिले।

रोजगार के अवसर: 

• फ़रवरी 2022 में होने वाले ग्लोबल इन्वेस्टर्ज़ समिट के लिए अलग-अलग मंत्रियो और अधिकारियों ने अब तक कई देशों में दौरा किया है।

• साथ ही फिनटेक स्टार्टअप कम्पनी फैलकॉन एक्स के सीईओ मुरली चिराला के साथ भी नोएडा में निवेश के लिए एमओयू पर हस्ताक्षर किया गया।

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Atomic Energy and Space,Dr Jitendra Singhsaid  that India’s maiden human space flight mission is targeted to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2024. He gave this information in the Lok Sabha on 21 December 2022.

Gaganyaan Mission of ISRO:  

• Gaganyaan project envisages demonstration of human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of 3 members to an orbit of 400 km for a 3 days mission and bring them back safely to earth, by landing in Indian sea waters.
• The Gaganyaan project was conceived in 2007 and it was formally started in 2018 with a budget of Rs 10,000 crore. 
• Initially the plan is to launch two unmanned  missions in December 2020 and July 2021  before the final launch of the manned mission in  December  2021. 
• Now according to the Minister the first unmanned  mission  will be launched in the last quarter of 2023 followed by the second unmanned  mission in the second quarter of 2024.

Gaganyaan Astronauts: 

• Four Indian Air Force pilots have been identified as crew for the mission who are undergoing training in Russia.
• An astronaut training facility was set up in Bengaluru in May this year. Here the four astronauts will go through theory, physical fitness, flight suit training, microgravity, among other things.

Aim of Gaganyaan mission: 

• According to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) LMV3  rocket will be used  as a launch vehicle  for the Gaganyaan mission. It will take the crew 16 minutes to reach space, where they will spend three days conducting scientific experiments.
• During the return, the  crew module in which the crew will live will separate at an altitude of 120 km. It will splash down in the sea nearby 36 minutes after separation.

Human Space Flight:  

• At present only three countries, the United States, Russia and China have the capability to launch manned space missions.
• The first person to go into space wasYury Gagarinof theSoviet Unionon 12 April 1961 onboard the Vostok Rocket.
• The first woman to go into space was Valentina Tereshkova of the Soviet Union on 16 June 1963  onboard the Vostok 6 Rocket.
• Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma is the only Indian to go into space. He was part of the Soviet mission aboardSoyuz T-11on 3 April 1984. 
• Humans who travel in space are called astronauts. The Chinese call themTaikonautsand the Russians call themCosmonauts.

केंद्रीय राज्य मंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी; परमाणु ऊर्जा और अंतरिक्ष,डॉ जितेंद्र सिंहने 21 दिसंबर 2022 को लोकसभा में यह जानकारी दी कि भारत के पहले मानव अंतरिक्ष उड़ान मिशन, गगनयान, को2024की चौथी तिमाही में लॉन्च करने का लक्ष्य है।

इसरो का गगनयान मिशन: 

• गगनयान परियोजना में 3 सदस्यों के चालक दल को 400 किमी की कक्षा में 3 दिनों के मिशन के लिए लॉन्च करके और उन्हें भारतीय समुद्री जल में उतरकर सुरक्षित रूप से पृथ्वी पर वापस लाने का मानव अंतरिक्ष उड़ान क्षमता के प्रदर्शन की परिकल्पना की गई है।
• गगनयान परियोजना की कल्पना 2007 में की गई थी और इसे औपचारिक रूप से 2018 में 10,000 करोड़ रुपये के बजट के साथ आरंभ किया गया था।
• प्रारंभ में दिसंबर 2021 में मानवयुक्त मिशन के अंतिम प्रक्षेपण से पहले दिसंबर 2020 और जुलाई 2021 में दो मानवरहित मिशन लॉन्च करने की योजना थी।
• अब मंत्री के अनुसार पहला मानवरहित  मिशन 2023 की अंतिम तिमाही में लॉन्च किया जाएगा और उसके बाद दूसरा मानवरहित मिशन 2024 की दूसरी तिमाही में लॉन्च किया जाएगा।

गगनयान के  अंतरिक्ष यात्री: 

• चार भारतीय वायु सेना के पायलटों को मिशन के लिए चालक दल के रूप में  चुना गया है जो रूस में प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त कर रहे हैं।
• इस साल मई में बेंगलुरु में एक अंतरिक्ष यात्री प्रशिक्षण सुविधा स्थापित की गई थी। यहां चार अंतरिक्ष यात्री थ्योरी, फिजिकल फिटनेस, फ्लाइट सूट ट्रेनिंग, माइक्रोग्रैविटी सहित अन्य चीजों का प्रशिक्षण  लेंगे।

गगनयान मिशन का लक्ष्य:  

• भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन के अनुसार  एलएम वी3(LMV3) राकेट  का उपयोग गगनयान मिशन के लिए प्रक्षेपण यान के रूप में किया जाएगा। चालक दल को अंतरिक्ष में पहुंचने में 16 मिनट लगेंगे, जहां वे तीन दिन बिताएंगे। वापसी के दौरान क्रू मॉड्यूल जिसमें चालक दल रहेगा, 120 किमी की ऊंचाई पर अलग हो जाएगा। अलग होने के करीब 36 मिनट बाद यह समुद्र में गिरेगा।

मानव अंतरिक्ष उड़ान: 

• वर्तमान में केवल तीन देशों, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका, रूस और चीन के पास मानवयुक्त अंतरिक्ष मिशन  करने की क्षमता है।
• 12 अप्रैल 1961 को वोस्तोक रॉकेट पर सवार सोवियत संघ के यूरी गगारिन अंतरिक्ष में जाने वाले पहले व्यक्ति थे।
• अंतरिक्ष में जाने वाली पहली महिला सोवियत संघ की वेलेंटीना टेरेश्कोवा हैं जिन्हें 16 जून 1963 को वोस्तोक 6 रॉकेट के द्वारा अंतरिक्ष में प्रक्षेपण किया गया था ।
• विंग कमांडर राकेश शर्मा अंतरिक्ष में जाने वाले एकमात्र भारतीय हैं। वह 3 अप्रैल 1984 को सोयुज टी-11 में सवार सोवियत मिशन का हिस्सा थे।
• अंतरिक्ष में यात्रा करने वाले मनुष्यों को एस्ट्रोनॉट्स (अंतरिक्ष यात्री) कहा जाता है। चीनी उन्हें ताइकोनॉट कहते हैं और रूसी उन्हें कॉस्मोनॉट कहते हैं।

Important Facts:

• This information was given by the Union Minister of state (Independent charge) Science & Technology, Atomic Energy and Space,Dr Jitendra Singhin the Rajay Sabha on 22 December 2022.
• He said that India has signed 4 cooperative documents specifically to collaborate in space exploration in the last five years.
• Apart from the United States of America, India has also signed an agreement withJapanto conduct a feasibility study for a joint lunar polar exploration mission, while with theUnited Kingdomit has an agreement for conducting a feasibility study for collaboration in future space science missions.
• He said, India and Bhutan collaborated on the development ofINDIA-BHUTANSATSatellite carrying into payloads NanoMX, an optical imaging payload developed by ISRO and APRS-Digipeater. The satellite was successfully placed in orbit on 26.11.2022.
• A communication satellite ‘South Asia Satellite’ was dedicated by India to South Asian Countries in 2017.

ISRO mission to Moon or Chandrayaan:  

• ISRO launched Chandrayaan mission to study the moon. TheChandrayaan 1 missionwas launched on 22 October 2008 from Satish Dhawan Space centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
• It launched aMoon Impact Probethat crashed on the moon surface and discovered asmall amount of water on the Moon's surface. 
• Chandrayaan 2was launched on 2 July 2019. The mission aimed to land a rover on the moon's South Pole. However the lunar landerVikramcrashed on the moon surface on 7 September 2019 and prevented roverPragyaanfrom successfully travelling on the surface of the moon. 

Chandrayaan 3:  

• According to the ISRO chairman  Chandrayaan 3  is scheduled to be launched in June 2023. It will only consist of a rover and lander and will communicate with the earth via an orbiter from Chandrayaan 2.

• उन्होंने कहा कि भारत ने पिछले पांच वर्षों में विशेष रूप से अंतरिक्ष अन्वेषण में सहयोग के लिए 4 सहकारी दस्तावेजों पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।
• संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के अलावा, भारत ने संयुक्त चंद्र ध्रुवीय अन्वेषण मिशन के लिए व्यवहार्यता अध्ययन करने के लिएजापानके साथ भी एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं, जबकियूनाइटेड किंगडमके साथ भविष्य के अंतरिक्ष विज्ञान मिशनों में सहयोग के लिए व्यवहार्यता अध्ययन करने के लिए एक समझौता है।
• उन्होंने कहा, भारत औरभूटानने भारत-भूटानसैट उपग्रह के पेलोड नैनोएमएक्स में ले जाने के विकास पर सहयोग किया, जो इसरो और एपीआरएस-डिजिपीटर द्वारा विकसित एक ऑप्टिकल इमेजिंग पेलोड है । उक्त उपग्रह को दिनांक 26.11.2022 को सफलतापूर्वक कक्षा में स्थापित कर दिया गया था। एक संचार उपग्रह 'दक्षिण एशिया उपग्रह' 2017 में भारत द्वारा दक्षिण एशियाई देशों को समर्पित किया गया था।

चंद्रमा या चंद्रयान के लिए इसरो मिशन: 

• इसरो ने चंद्रमा का अध्ययन करने के लिए चंद्रयान मिशन लॉन्च किया है।चंद्रयान 1 मिशनको 22 अक्टूबर 2008 को सतीश धवन अंतरिक्ष केंद्र,श्रीहरिकोटा,आंध्र प्रदेश से लॉन्च किया गया था।
• इसने एक मून इंपैक्ट प्रोब लॉन्च किया जिसे चंद्रमा की सतह पर टकराया गया  और उसने चंद्रमा की सतह पर पानी की एक छोटी मात्रा की खोज की।
• चंद्रयान 2को 2 जुलाई 2019 को लॉन्च किया गया था। मिशन का उद्देश्य चंद्रमा के दक्षिणी ध्रुव पर एक रोवर उतारना था। हालाँकि चंद्र लैंडरविक्रम7 सितंबर 2019 को चंद्रमा की सतह पर दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया और रोवरप्रज्ञानको चंद्रमा की सतह पर सफलतापूर्वक उतारने में यह असफल रहा।

चंद्रयान 3

• इसरो के अध्यक्ष के अनुसार चंद्रयान 3 को जून 2023 में लॉन्च किया जाना है। इसमें केवल एक रोवर और लैंडर शामिल होगा और चंद्रयान 2 के ऑर्बिटर के माध्यम से पृथ्वी के साथ संचार करेगा।

The Government of India has appointed senior diplomat Suhel Ajaz Khan as India's new ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Suhel Ajaz Khan  is a 1997-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and is presently serving as Indian ambassador to Lebanon.

• Khan worked at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh between September 2017 and June 2019 as Deputy Chief of Mission.

The Odisha Chief MinisterNaveen Patnaiklaunched a 24×7 piped drinking water project -‘Drink from Tap’- in 19 cities of the state on 21 December 2022. About 5.5 lakh people in these cities will be benefited from the project.

• Addressing the event, the chief minister said providing safe drinking water to every family has been his dream for a long time and it has always been the priority of his government.
• He said that households in these cities will get drinking water directly from the tap adhering to the quality parameters of the Bureau of Indian Standards.
• The state government scheme is different from the central government scheme ofJal Jeevan Missionwhich was launched on 15 August 2019. 
• Within the Jal Jeevan Mission, Har Ghar Nal se Jal scheme, aims to provide potable, quality drinking water to every rural household by 2024.

ओडिशा के मुख्यमंत्रीनवीन पटनायकने 21 दिसंबर 2022 को राज्य के 19 शहरों में 24×7 पाइप वाली पेयजल परियोजना -'नल से पानी'शुरू की। इन शहरों में लगभग 5.5 लाख लोग इस परियोजना से लाभान्वित होंगे।

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced on 21 December 2022 that the 26th National Youth festival 2023 will be held in the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad.

The U.N. Security Council on 21 December 2022 adopted its first ever resolution on Myanmar in 74 years to demand an end to violence and urge the military junta to release all political prisoners, including ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

• The 15-member council has long been split on how to deal with the Myanmar crisis with China and Russia arguing against strong action. 
• The resolution also demands “an immediate end to all forms of violence” and asks for “all parties to respect human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.”
• The motion was adopted with 12 votes in favour. Permanent members China and Russia opted not to use the veto after amending the wording. India also remained absent.
• The resolution sent a "strong message" to the world that the junta must "end its violence across the country" and free prisoners.
• The only resolution regarding Myanmar was passed by the United Nations in 1948 approving its membership in the UN Security Council.

Ms Shalini Kumari from India received first prize in the Grassroots Innovation Competition at the 3rd ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation forum for her innovation ‘Modified walker with adjustable legs’.

• The first prize winner from India Ms Shalini Kumari at the forum, a resident of Patna in Bihar; she was first recognized by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) – India.
• The technology was transferred to the industry, Vissco Rehabilitation Aids, a leading manufacturer of orthopaedic products in the country.

The United States has announced on 21 December that it would provide its key Patriot missile defence system to Ukraine. 

• The White House stated that the Patriot missile system would be part of another 1.85 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine.
• The package also includes military vehicles, mortars, ammunition for HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems), and small arms.
• The aid announcement comes at a time when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is on a visit to Washington to strengthen military ties between the two countries.

• It is a surface-to-air guided missile system that was first deployed in the 1980s.
• It can target aircraft, cruise missiles and short-range ballistic missiles.

• Patriot batteries can also shoot down aircraft.

India on 21 December voted in favour of a resolution on the mental health of UN peacekeepers.

• India's Permanent Ambassador to the UN Ruchira Kamboj said, as one of the largest troop contributing countries over the years, India attaches the highest importance to the safety and well-being of UN peacekeepers.
• Mental health is an essential component of the overall health in which UN peacekeepers work.
• Therefore, the medical care and well-being of UN personnel is the collective responsibility of all Member States.
• Meanwhile, Kamboj raised the issue of data and studies done in consultation with troop and police contributing countries and the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, or C34.
• C 34 has been giving due consideration to the issue of mental health of UN personnel in peace operations.
