According to the Union Ministry of Science and Technology (Minister Jitendra Singh), North India's first nuclear power plant is being set up in Gorakhpur, Haryana, about 150 km north of the national capital.

• The Center has approved the setting up of 10 nuclear reactors to increase India's nuclear capacity.
• Nuclear power plants were earlier mostly confined to southern states such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and western Maharashtra but will now be developed across the country.

About first nuclear plant in Haryana’s Gorakhpur

• Gorakhpur Haryana Nuclear Power Project (GHNPP) consists of two units of 700 MW each.
• Each of these has indigenously designed Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR).
• It is under implementation near Gorakhpur village of Fatehabad district in Haryana.

केंद्रीय विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय (मंत्री जितेंद्र सिंह) के अनुसार उत्तर भारत का प्रथम परमाणु ऊर्जा संयंत्र राष्ट्रीय राजधानी से लगभग 150 किमी उत्तर में गोरखपुर, हरियाणा में स्थापित किया जा रहा है।

हरियाणा के गोरखपुर में पहले परमाणु संयंत्र

• गोरखपुर हरियाणा अणु विद्युत परियोजना (जीएचएवीपी) में 700 मेगावाट क्षमता की दो इकाइयां हैं। 
• इनमें से प्रत्येक में प्रेशराइज्ड हेवी वाटर रिएक्टर (पीएचडब्ल्यूआर) स्वदेशी रूप से डिजाइन किए गए हैं। 
• यह हरियाणा में फतेहाबाद जिले के गोरखपुर गांव के पास कार्यान्वयन के अधीन है।

Former CEO of NITI Aayog Parameswaran Iyer has been appointed as the Executive Director of the World Bank Headquarters for a tenure of two years. Also, the government has now approved the appointment of B.V.R. Subrahmanyam as the new CEO of NITI Aayog.

• Subrahmanyam will replace Parameswaran Iyer, who has been appointed as the Executive Director of the World Bank for a period of two years.
• Prior to this, Subrahmanyam has been the former Commerce Secretary to the Government of India.
• NITI Aayog is the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India and is responsible for bringing ideas through to policy making and focusing on key areas.

The government on 20 February approved the appointment of B.V.R. Subrahmanyam as the CEO of NITI Aayog. He will be the fourth CEO of NITI Aayog.

• Subrahmanyam will replace Parameswaran Iyer, who has been appointed as the Executive Director of the World Bank for a period of two years.
• Prior to this, he was the former Commerce Secretary to the Government of India.

On February 17, the Election Commission of India ordered the Eknath Shinde faction to be given the name Shiv Sena as its election symbol, the bow and arrow.

Important Points:

• The two factions of the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray) have been fighting over the party's bow and arrow symbol after Shinde (the current chief minister of Maharashtra) rebelled against Thackeray last year.
• The Election Commission, in its 78-page order, said the current constitution of Shiv Sena is "undemocratic".

Election Commission of India

• It is a permanent and independent body established by the Constitution of India to ensure free and fair elections in India.
• It administers the elections to the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, State Assemblies, State Legislative Councils and the President and Vice President of the country.
• The President appoints Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners.

The 49th 'Khajuraho Dance Festival-2023' was organised in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh from 20 to 26 February. The festival was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel. 

Important Points:

• The first meeting of the Culture Working Group of G-20 countries was also held in Khajuraho from 23 to 25 February.
• Madhya Pradesh State Rupankar Kala Puraskar was given at the function and an exhibition of artefacts has also been organised at the venue.
• Under the Department of Culture, this festival was organised with the joint efforts of Ustad Alladin Khan Academy of Music and Arts, Department of Tourism, Archaeological Survey of India, World Dance Alliance and Chhatarpur District Administration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on the 37th Foundation Day of the state on 20 February 2023.

• Mizoram became the 23rd full-fledged state of India on 20 February 1987 following the 53rd Amendment to the Indian Constitution, 1986.
• Through the 55th Amendment to the Indian Constitution in 1986, Arunachal Pradesh became the 24th state of the Indian Union on February 20, 1987.
• Arunachal Pradesh, during the British colonial rule, till 1972, the state was known as North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA).
• It became a Union Territory on January 20, 1972 and was named Arunachal Pradesh. It was formed in the year 1987 by separating from Assam.

The 18th World Security Congress was organised by the International Union of Railways (UIC) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) from 21 to 23 February in Jaipur.

In the study conducted by scientists, it has been told that the area of the Antarctic Ocean covered with ice has shrunk to a record low level.

Important Points:

• According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center in the United States, Antarctica's sea ice extent was recorded at 2.2 million square kilometres last week, down from 2.27 million square kilometres as of February 24, 2022, the previous record. 
• According to scientists, due to the hot winds, the snow is melting rapidly. This year the temperature of the hot winds has been 1.5 degrees above the average.
• India has two research centres on the Antarctic continent - 'Maitri' and 'Bharati'.

• वैज्ञानिकों के अनुसार गर्म हवाओं की वजह से बर्फ तेजी से पिघल रही है, इस साल गर्म हवाओं का तापमान औसत से 1.5 डिग्री ज्यादा रहा है। 
• अंटार्कटिक महाद्वीप पर भारत के दो शोध केंद्र हैं- 'मैत्री' और 'भारती'।

As part of the military exchange program between theIndian Army and the Uzbekistan Army, the4th editionoftraining exercise Dastlik(2023) was conducted from 20 February to 5 March 2023 atPithoragarh, Uttarakhand.

• 45-45 soldiers from both countries will participate in the exercise.
• The Indian contingent in this bilateral exercise will be represented by the 14th Battalion The Garhwal Rifles, which is part of the Western Command.

• Its purpose is to give impetus to the ever-growing military and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
