The Board of Invest India has appointed Manmeet K Nanda as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the investment promotion and facilitation body under the Ministry of Commerce.

A court in Surat in Gujarat has convicted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case filed in 2019 over his remarks on Modi's surname.

• The court also sentenced him to two years in jail.
• The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate H.H. Verma convicted Rahul Gandhi under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code.
• The court granted bail to Rahul Gandhi and stayed the sentence for 30 days so that he can appeal in a higher court during this period.
• After this decision, Rahul Gandhi's membership of Parliament can also go from Wayanad parliamentary constituency.
• Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi made an objectionable comment on the Modi surname while addressing a public meeting in Kollar, Karnataka.

गुजरात में सूरत की एक अदालत ने कांग्रेस नेता राहुल गांधी को मोदी सरनेम को लेकर की गई टिप्‍पणी पर 2019 में दर्ज आपराधिक मानहानि मामले में दोषी करार दिया है।

• अदालत ने उन्‍हें दो वर्ष जेल की सजा भी सुनाई है।
• मुख्य न्यायिक मजिस्ट्रेट एचएच वर्मा की अदालत ने राहुल गांधी को भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 499 और 500 के तहत दोषी ठहराया।
• अदालत ने राहुल गांधी को जमानत दे दी है और सजा पर 30 दिन की रोक लगाई है ताकि वे इस अवधि में ऊपरी अदालत में अपील कर सकें। 
• इस फैसले के बाद राहुल गांधी की वायनाड संसदीय चुनाव क्षेत्र से संसद सदस्‍यता भी जा सकती है।

Asia's largest 4-metre International Liquid Mirror Telescope was launched in Devasthal in Uttarakhand on 21 March.

Important Points:

• The telescope was officially inaugurated by Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh.
• It has been established at the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) located inNainital, Uttarakhand.
• The observatory will explore the deep sky, collecting an assortment of objects ranging from asteroids to supernovae and space debris.

About the International Liquid Mirror Telescope

• It consists of a 4-metre-diameter rotating mirror made of a thin layer of liquid mercury to collect light. It mainly has three components:

1. First, the bowl containing a reflective liquid metal (mercury).
2. Second, the air pressure driven motor on which the liquid mirror rests.
3. Third, there is a system to drive the motor. The surface of liquid mirror binoculars naturally takes on a parabolic shape as it rotates, which is ideal for focusing light.

इंटरनेशनल लिक्विड मिरर टेलीस्कोप:

• इसमें प्रकाश को इकट्ठा करने के लिए तरल पारे की एक पतली परत से बना 4-मीटर-व्यास का घूमने वाला दर्पण होता है। इसके मुख्यतः तीन घटक हैं: 

1. पहला, कटोरा जिसमें एक परावर्तक तरल धातु (पारा) होता है। 
2. दूसरा, हवा के दबाव से चलने वाली मोटर जिस पर तरल दर्पण टिका होता है। 
3. तीसरा, मोटर को चलाने का एक सिस्टम होता है। घूमते समय तरल दर्पण दूरबीन की सतह स्वाभाविक रूप से एक पर्वलायिक आकार लेती है, जो प्रकाश को केंद्रित करने के लिए आदर्श होता है। 

Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav chaired the 1st General Body Meeting of National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) on 22 March in New Delhi.

Important Points:

• He emphasized on Blue Economy which focuses on sustainable and climate-resilient coastal infrastructure and livelihood of coastal communities.
• The Government is moving forward with a Marine Spatial Plan for area-based management with multiple management objectives.
• The minister also directed the NCSCM to contribute to Mission MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Income) for mangrove conservation with a focus on generating income for coastal communities.

Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM)

• It is an institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
• It was established in February 2011, as a research institution to support the protection, conservation, restoration, management, and policy advice on coasts.
• Its vision is to promote sustainable coasts through increased partnerships, conservation practices, scientific research, and knowledge management for the benefit and well-being of current and future generations.

The Income Tax Department has launched a free mobile app named 'AIS for Taxpayers'.

Important Points:

• Taxpayers can use the app to view their information related to Tax deducted at Source (TDS), interest, dividends, share transactions, tax payments, Income Tax refunds and other Information. 
• They can also view GST Data and foreign Remittances as available in Annual Information Statement (AIS).
• Taxpayers will also have the option and facility to provide feedback on the information displayed in the app.
• Taxpayers can access the information by registering on the app through PAN number, OTP sent to the mobile number and authenticating with the email registered on the e-filing portal.

• करदाता पैन नंबर के माध्यम से ऐप पर पंजीकरण करके, मोबाइल नंबर पर भेजे गए ओटीपी और ई-फाइलिंग पोर्टल पर पंजीकृत ई-मेल के साथ प्रमाणित करके जानकारी प्राप्त कर सकते हैं। 

Interpol has withdrawn the Red Corner Notice (RCN) issued against Mehul Choksi, the main accused in the Rs 13,500 crore PNB loan scam case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought the restoration of the notice.

Important Points:

• Mehul Choksi is the owner of Gitanjali Group, a jewellery firm with 4,000 stores in India.
• He along with his nephew Nirav Modi is a culprit in the Rs 13,500 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam.
• Choksi and Modi are accused of issuing fake Letters of Undertaking (LoU) and foreign letters of credit to companies owned by them in connivance with bank officials.
• In this case, PNB did not keep any security before issuing the LoU.
• The matter came to light in January 2018, when PNB submitted a fraud report to the Reserve Bank of India.
• A Red Corner Notice, or Red Notice (RN), alerts police forces around the world to fugitives who are wanted internationally.

इंटरपोल ने 13,500 करोड़ रुपए के पी.एन.बी. कर्ज घोटाला मामले में मुख्य आरोपी मेहुल चोकसी के विरुद्ध जारी रेड कॉर्नर नोटिस (आरसीएन) को वापस ले लिया है। केंद्रीय जांच ब्यूरो (सीबीआई) ने नोटिस की बहाली की मांग की है।

• मेहुल चौकसी भारत में 4,000 स्टोर वाली ज्वैलरी फर्म गीतांजलि ग्रुप के मालिक हैं।
• वह अपने भतीजे नीरव मोदी के साथ 13,500 करोड़ रुपये के पंजाब नेशनल बैंक (पीएनबी) घोटाले में अपराधी हैं।
• चोकसी और मोदी पर बैंक अधिकारियों के साथ मिलीभगत कर उनके स्वामित्व वाली कंपनियों को जारी किए गए फर्जी लेटर्स ऑफ अंडरटेकिंग (LoU) और फॉरेन लेटर्स ऑफ क्रेडिट जारी करने का आरोप है।

Japan has announced a new $75 billion plan to counter China in the Indo-Pacific region.

• Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced a detailed new plan for an open and free Indo-Pacific during his visit to India on 20-21 March 2023.
• That promised billions of dollars in investment to help the region's economies in everything from industry to disaster prevention.
• Kishida mentions 'four pillars' in the new free and open Indo-Pacific plan; in which:

  • Dealing with new global issues in cooperation with Indo-Pacific countries,
  • Achieving global connectivity through various platforms, and

• To achieve this, Kishida has announced an acceleration of aid to the Indo-Pacific to $75 billion by 2030 through private investment and yen loans, and through official government assistance and grants.

Presenting the State Agriculture Budget for the financial year 2023-24 in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on March 21, Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam informed that the state government will implement the Tamil Nadu Millets Mission for five years.

• The government has decided to take up millet cultivation in 50,000 acres of fallow land under its Tamil Nadu Millet Mission and provide subsidy for crop diversification into millets.
• By bringing millet farmers together, 100 groups of millet producers will be formed and training programs will be run for them.
• Subsidy will be provided for setting up sprinkler irrigation systems in 12,500 acres.
