10th CPA India Region Conference Begins in New Delhi

The two-day 10th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Conference began in New Delhi.

An Overview of the News

• Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Chairperson of the CPA India Region, is chairing the meeting.

• Attendees include 46 Presiding Officers, 4 Chairmen, 25 Speakers, 3 Deputy Chairmen, 14 Deputy Speakers, and various Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, and officers from State and Union Territories Legislatures.

Theme of the Conference

• The theme of the conference is “The Role of Legislative Bodies in the Attainment of Sustainable and Inclusive Development.”

Key Address by Lok Sabha Speaker

• Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized the need to strengthen legislative bodies to meet the evolving needs of the people.

• He highlighted the importance of adapting to new technologies and communication methods.

• The aim is to bring those excluded from development into the mainstream and provide new direction to legislative institutions.

About CPA India Region

• Established in 2004, the CPA India Region was formed from the former CPA Asia Region.

• It is one of nine global CPA Regions and currently consists of 31 Member Branches, including the Parliament of India and 30 State and Union Territory Legislatures.

• This is the second time the CPA India Region Conference is being held in New Delhi.
