- Chasing a target of 252, India, led by captain Rohit Sharma from front, crossed the finishing line and defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy final in Dubai.
- It is the second time that India has won against New Zealand in the ICC knockouts.

8. Government Approves Participation of Indian Contingent at 9th Asian Winter Games 2025.

- In a landmark move to foster winter sports in India, the Government of India has approved the participation of the Indian contingent at the 9th Asian Winter Games (AWG) 2025, scheduled to be held from 7th to 14th February in Harbin, China.
Important points:
- The Government has given clearance forparticipation of the 88-member Indian contingent which includes 59 athletes and 29 team officials.
- For the first time, full financial support is being extended under the Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) Scheme to athletes competing in Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, and Speed Skating (Long Track).
- This is the first occasion where the Government of India has formally extended financial support for the country’s participation at the Asian Winter Games.

- The Khelo India season starts with theKhelo India Winter Games 2025 in Ladakh on 23th January,2025.
Important points:
- Nineteen teams, comprising states, Union Territories and institutional outfits, will compete over five days in two events – ice-hockey and ice-skating.
- This will bethe first part of KIWG 2025. The second part, featuring snow games like skiing, will be hosted by Jammu & Kashmir from February 22-25.
- Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will be in attendance at the opening ceremony at the iconic Nawang Dorjay Stobdan Sports Complex in Lehon and will declare the Games Open.
- A traditional, Ladhaki-style opening has been planned to welcome 594 participants, of which 428 will be athletes.
- This will be the second time Ladakh will be hosting the Winter Games, into its fifth edition.
- All teams have arrived in Leh which is at an altitude of 11,562 feet.Himachal Pradesh has the biggest contingent comprising 78 athletes and support staff. Haryana (62), Ladakh (52) and Maharashtra (48) will compete in the Ladakh edition.

The Indian men's team clinched the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup championship by defeating Nepal 54-36 in the final on Sunday.
This victory followed the Indian women's team's triumph over Nepal in their respective final.
