  • Following their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 exit, Australia skipper Steve Smith has called it quits in the 50-over format. 

Important points:

  • The two-time ICC Men's Cricket World Cup winner will continue to play Test and T20I cricket for Australia, but his side's narrow loss to India in the Champions Trophy semi-finals on Tuesday was the last 50-over contest he will feature in for his country.
  • Smith, who featured in 170 ODIs for Australia, scored 5800 runs at 43.28 including 12 centuries and 35 half centuries while also registering 28 wickets to his name.
  • The batter was also an integral member of Australia's Cricket World Cup winning sides in 2015 and 2023.

  • Formula 2 driver Kush Maini finished 13th in the drivers’ standings in his second Formula 2 season and made history by clinching the Constructors’ Championship with Invicta Racing at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

About Kush Maini :

  • He is thefirst from India to win a FIA Constructors’ World Championship, despite having an inconsistent season.
  •  The 24-year-old played a pivotal role in Invicta Racing’s success, securing five podiums, including a race win in Hungary.
  • His pole position in Jeddah set the tone for the team’s campaign, culminating in its victory by 34.5 points over Campos Racing, his former team.
  • For the final race, Maini qualified in P6 and had better starts in both races. 

What is Formula 2?

  • Formula Two (F2 or Formula 2) is a type of open-wheel formula racing category first codified in 1948.
  • It was replaced in 1985 by Formula 3000, but revived by the FIA from 2009–2012 in the form of the FIA Formula Two Championship.

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has  congratulated the Indian Men’s Junior Hockey Team on winning the Junior Asia Cup 2024.  

 Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2024:

  • The 2024 Men's Hockey Junior Asia Cup was the tenth edition of the Men's Hockey Junior Asia Cup, the men's international under-21 field hockey championship of Asia, organized by the Asian Hockey Federation. 
  • It was held from 26 November to 4 December 2024 at the Hockey Oman Stadium in Muscat, Oman.
  • Indian hockey team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 5-3 in the final of Men's Junior Asia Cup 2024 hockey in Muscat, Oman on 4th December 2024,with it, India claimed a record-extending fifth title. 
  • Araijeet Singh Hundal was the hero for the winning side with four goals while Dilraj Singh hit the remaining one goal.
  •  For Pakistan, Sufyan Khan hit two and Hannan Shahid scored one goal. It was Pakistan who took an early lead in the game, but India bounced back within a minute to level the scores, thanks to Araijeet.

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today congratulated the Indian Hockey team on winning the Women's Asian Champions Trophy.

 Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024:

  •   The Women's Asian Champions Trophy was the eighth edition of the Women's Asian Champions Trophy, a biennial field hockey tournament where the six best Asian women's national teams compete.
  •  It was organized by the Asian Hockey Federation,in Rajgir, India, from 11 to 20 November 2024.
  • The Indian hockey team beat the People's Republic of China 1-0 in the final to win the Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024 at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar on Wednesday.
  • Deepika  scored the winning goal for the Indian women's hockey team and finished as the tournament's top goal scorer with a tally of 11.
  •  India has won the Asian Champions Trophy thrice, in 2016, 2023 and 2024.

10. Valluri Ajaya Babu Wins Gold at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships

Valluri Ajaya Babu (19 years old) won the gold medal in the men's 81kg junior and senior categories at the Commonwealth Championships.
