Chartered Accountant , Dr. Debashis Mitra, has been elected as the President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the year 2022-23.
Sunil Talati was elected as the Vice-President of the ICAI .
ICAI
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949.
It was set up on 1 July 1949.
The ICAI is the second largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world after the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants(AICPA).
It is the regulator of the Chartered Accountancy profession in India .
It comes under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs ,Government of India .

2. Famous Industrialist Rahul Bajaj no more

Noted Industrialist and grandson of noted Gandhian Jamna Lal Bajaj died at the age of 83 in Mumbai on 12 February 2022.
He was the former chairman of the Bajaj group which included Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finserv . and Bajaj Holdings & Investment. Bajaj scooter “Chetak” was once a household name in India.
He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2010.
Rahul Bajaj was awarded with the third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan in 2001.
3. Trekker R Babu rescued after nearly 48 hours

- Trekker R.Babu was rescued by the mountaineering team of the Indian Army Southern Command on 9 February 2022, after he was trapped in a cleft on a hill in Kerala’s Palakkad district
- R.Babu who along with his friends went on a trekking trip to climb the Kurumbachi hillock in Malampuzha’s Cherad hill . He slipped off a cliff and was stranded in a steep gorge for around 48 hours before being rescued by the army team.

- Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani group, has overtaken Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani to become the richest man in Asia .
- According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index ,Gautam Adani net worth was $88.5 billion while Mukesh Ambani was $87.9 billion.
- Gautam Adani founded the company in 1968 and started with a commodity trading business. Now the company is engaged in the business of ports, airports, coal mining, power sector, renewable energy, and defence.

7. Praveen kumar Sobti “Bheem” no more

Noted athlete and famous TV actor Praveen Kumar Sobti passed away on 8 February 2022 at the age of 74 in Delhi .
Praveen Kumar who started his career as an athlete shot to fame with the portrayal of the character “Bheem” in the B.R Chopra’s Television Serial Mahabharat telecasted in 1988.
Praveen Kumar Sobti became the second Indian athlete after Milkha Singh to win a medal in the Commonwealth games when he won the silver medal in the hammer throw event at the Commonwealth Games held in Kingston, Jamaica 1966.
He also won the gold medal in discus throw and Bronze medal in the hammer throw at the 1966 Asian Games held at Bangkok, Thailand .
Sobti went on to add another gold and silver in discus in successive Asian Games in 1970 Bangkok and 1974 Tehran ,respectively.
He also participated in the 1968 Mexico city Olympics and the Munich 1972 Olympics .
8. First Women Vice-Chancellor of JNU

Santishree Dhulipadi Pandit has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor(VC) of the prestigious JawaharLal Nehru University(JNU) ,New Delhi
She is the first woman and also a former student of JNU to be appointed as the Vice -Chancellor of the University.
She has replaced Mr Jagdish Kumar who was earlier appointed as the chairman of the University Grant Commission by the Government of India.

9. Lata Mangeshkar no more

Bharat Ratna and legendary singer Lata Mangeskar died on 6 February 2022 at the Breach Candy hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra due to multiple organ failure after recovering from Covid. She was 92 years old.
She was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on 28 September 1928.
Lata Mangeskar was also popularly called the “Nightingale of India” melody queen etc . She was a playback singer who has sung in 36 languages with more than 50,000 songs , but majority of her songs were in Hindi and Marathi.
Awards and Achievements
She was the second singer after M.S.Subbulakshmi to get the highest civilian award of India ,Bharat Ratna . She got the award in 2001.
She got Padma Vibhushan in 1999 and Padma Bhushan in 1969.
In 1989 she got the highest award in cinema, the Dada Shaeb Phalke award .
She received National Film awards in 1972,75,1990.
In 1993 Filmfare Lifetime achievement Award .
Filmfare award for best female singer in 1958, 1962, 1965, 1969, 1993 and 1994.
IIFA Lifetime achievement award in 2000.
The government of France conferred her with the” Officer of the Legion of Honour” in 2009, which is the country’s highest civilian award
She was the member of the Parliament from 1999-2005 as the President nominated her to the Rajay Sabha
She was the first Indian to perform at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall of London in 1974.
Her first recorded song for the marathi film Kiti Hasaal was in 1942 when she was 13 years old .
Her first recorded Hindi song was for the film Aap Ki Seva Mein ,released in 1946.
Mangshkar’s last full film album was “Veer-Zaara” in 2004.
10. Therese Johaug of Norway win the first gold medal of Beijing Winter Olympics

The first gold medal of the Beijing Olympics was won by Norwegian Therese Johaug in the 15-kilometer women skiathlon cross country race.
The silver medal was won by the Russian Natalya Nepryayeva and the Bronze medal was won by Teresa Stadlober of Austria.
