Santishree Dhulipadi Pandit has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor(VC) of the prestigious JawaharLal Nehru University(JNU) ,New Delhi
She is the first woman and also a former student of JNU to be appointed as the Vice -Chancellor of the University.
She has replaced Mr Jagdish Kumar who was earlier appointed as the chairman of the University Grant Commission by the Government of India.
Santishree Pandit has been appointed for five years .

Bharat Ratna and legendary singer Lata Mangeskar died on 6 February 2022 at the Breach Candy hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra due to multiple organ failure after recovering from Covid. She was 92 years old.
She was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on 28 September 1928.
Lata Mangeskar was also popularly called the “Nightingale of India” melody queen etc . She was a playback singer who has sung in 36 languages with more than 50,000 songs , but majority of her songs were in Hindi and Marathi.
Awards and Achievements
She was the second singer after M.S.Subbulakshmi to get the highest civilian award of India ,Bharat Ratna . She got the award in 2001.
She got Padma Vibhushan in 1999 and Padma Bhushan in 1969.
In 1989 she got the highest award in cinema, the Dada Shaeb Phalke award .
She received National Film awards in 1972,75,1990.
In 1993 Filmfare Lifetime achievement Award .
Filmfare award for best female singer in 1958, 1962, 1965, 1969, 1993 and 1994.
IIFA Lifetime achievement award in 2000.
The government of France conferred her with the” Officer of the Legion of Honour” in 2009, which is the country’s highest civilian award
She was the member of the Parliament from 1999-2005 as the President nominated her to the Rajay Sabha
She was the first Indian to perform at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall of London in 1974.
Her first recorded song for the marathi film Kiti Hasaal was in 1942 when she was 13 years old .
Her first recorded Hindi song was for the film Aap Ki Seva Mein ,released in 1946.
Mangshkar’s last full film album was “Veer-Zaara” in 2004.
3. Therese Johaug of Norway win the first gold medal of Beijing Winter Olympics

The first gold medal of the Beijing Olympics was won by Norwegian Therese Johaug in the 15-kilometer women skiathlon cross country race.
The silver medal was won by the Russian Natalya Nepryayeva and the Bronze medal was won by Teresa Stadlober of Austria.
4. Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar appointed as the Chairman of UGC

Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar,Vice-Chancellor,Jawaharlal Nehru University has been appointed to the post of Chairman,University Grants Commission(UGC) by the Government of India.
- He has been appointed for a period of five years.
- The post of the UGC chairman fell vacant on December 7 after Prof D P Singh, who had taken charge in 2018, resigned upon turning 65. .
- Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar is an academician, administrator and author who has been the acting Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) since January 2021 after completion of his tenure in December 2020.
- He was earlier a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi.
5. Neeraj Chopra nominated for Laureus World Sports Award

Tokyo Olympic 2020 gold medalist, Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been nominated for the prestigious 2022 Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year award.
- He is the third Indian to be nominated for a Laureus award after cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar (for the best sporting moment in the last 20 years in 2020) and wrestler Vinesh Phogat (for the World Sporting Comeback category for 2019).

8. Government has extended the tenure of LIC Chairman

The Government of India has extended the tenure of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) chairman Mr. M. R. Kumar by one year. He will remain in office till March 2023 or until he attains the age of superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
- The government has done this to facilitate smooth Initial Public Offerings (IPO) of LIC, which is expected to be completed by March 2022.
- The LIC IPO is expected to be the largest IPO in India.
- The largest IPO in India was Paytm at Rs 18,300 Crore in 2021.

9. Noted educationalist Baba Iqbal Singh Ji passes away

- He was the Founder President of The Kalgidhar Trust, The Kalgidhar Society and Baru Sahib.
- In 2022, he was conferred with the Padma Shri by the Government Of India for his contributions in the field of social work.
10. 10-year-old Sai Patil cycles from Kashmir to Kanyakumari

Sai Patil, a 10-year-old girl from Balkum in Thane, has created history by cycling 3,600 km from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
- She began the journey that was completed in 38 days on December 16 2021 and completed it on January 20, 2022.
- She cycled for more than 120km per day.
Sai Patil has been practicing for this journey since the lockdown and aspires to do many such journeys including East to West in India and India to Russia.
