1. Think-20 group meeting concludes in Bhopal

A two-day meeting of the Think-20 group was organised under the G-20 on 16-17 January 2023 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Think-20 was launched by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
An Overview of the news
Under the Think-20 grouping of the G-20, the overarching theme of the meeting is "Global Good Governance with an Environment-Friendly Lifestyle, Moral Values and Well-Being".
A program of two plenary sessions and round table meetings was organised on the topics to be taken up in Think-20.
In the first plenary session, the topic 'Role of Triangular Cooperation in Localization of SDGs' was discussed, while in the second plenary session, the topic 'New Complementaries in Trade and Value Chains' was discussed.
Along with this, a round table meeting was also organised on 'Global South and Global Governance for Life'.
After the conclusion of the meeting on January 17, the representatives of the G20 countries visited the world-famous tourist destination Sanchi in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh.

The five-day annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) begins on 16 January 2023 in Davos, Switzerland. It is the 53rd edition of the World Economic Forum which will be organised till 20 January 2023.

3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Global Investors Summit in Indore

PM Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the 7th edition of Global Investors Summit', a flagship event of the state government in Indore on 11 January.
An overview of the news
The President of Suriname Chandrika Prasad Santokhi and the President of Guyana Dr Mohammed Irfan Ali attended the inaugural session.
The theme of the two-day summit is 'Madhya Pradesh-The Future Ready State'.
Special attention has been given to environmental protection in this summit, which will be completely based on carbon neutral and zero waste.
This summit will showcase the various investment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh."
A total of 447 international delegates from 84 countries, 401 international buyers, 5,000 industrialists and representatives from different international industry associations and representatives from G20 countries are participating in the event.
In the International Pavilion, 9 partner countries and 14 International Trade Organizations will display different aspects of their respective countries.
More than 500 famous industrialists of the country will also participate in this. The Global Investors Summit will have 19 sessions on various topics.

4. India to host Voice of Global South Summit

India will host a special virtual Summit on 12th and 13th of January 2023 called 'Voice of Global South Summit'.
An overview of the news
The theme of the Summit is 'Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose.
The summit is envisaged to bring together the countries of the South and share their perspectives and priorities on various issues.
More than 120 countries have been invited for this summit.
The initiative is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas and India's philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
The summit is India's attempt to provide a common platform to discuss concerns affecting developing countries.
India will work to ensure that the valuable inputs generated by participating countries in the Voice of the Global South deliberations receive due cognizance globally.
5. PM to chair second National Conference of Chief Secretaries in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the 2nd National Conference of Chief Secretaries on January 6 and 7, 2023 in Delhi.
An overview of the news
This will be an important step towards further enhancing the partnership between the Central and State Governments.
The first conference of Chief Secretaries was to be held in Dharamshala in June 2022.
The conference will focus on achieving rapid and sustained economic growth in partnership with the states.
It will see participation from representatives of the Central Government, Chief Secretaries and senior officers from all States/UTs and more than 200 domain experts.
The conference will lay the groundwork for achieving a developed India with emphasis on growth and employment generation and inclusive human development.
The best practices of the States/UTs under each theme will also be presented in the conference so that the States can learn from each other.

6. President Murmu inaugurates the 18th National Jamboree of the Bharat Scouts and Guides in Rajasthan

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 18th National Scout and Guide Jamboree, at Rohat in the Pali district of Rajasthan on 4 January 2023. The President was on a two day (3 and 4 January) visit to the state. The 7 day event is being hosted by Rajasthan after 66 years. Over 35,000 scouts and guides from all over the country are participating in the event.
The first National Scout and Guide Jamboree was held in Andhra Pradesh in 1951. The 17th Jamboree was held in Mysuru, Karnataka in December 2016 -January 2017.

What is a Jamboree?
The Jamboree is a National level gathering of the Scouts and Guides conducted once in 4 years or to mark special occasions. The Jamboree gives the Scouts and Guides an opportunity to interact with the youth from different states of India and from abroad. The young people share their customs, food habits, handicrafts, religious practices, culture etc with one another. They live under the canvas for a week and participate in various activities.
For the 18th National Scout and Guides Jamboree over 3500 tents have been erected at the Nimblee village.
Founder of the Scout and Guides movement
The Boy Scout movement was started by Major General Baden Powel of the British Army in 1907.
The girl’s guide’s movement was started by Major General Powel sister’s Agnes Baden Powel in 1910.
Bharat Scouts and Guides Movement
After Independence the Bharat Scouts and Guides was set up in 1950 as a registered society under Societies Registrations Act 1860.
It is a totally voluntary, non-political and secular organisation.
The purpose of the Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and International communities.
Its Headquarters is in New Delhi.
7. 1st All India Annual State Ministers Conference on Water

1st All India Annual State Ministers Conference on Water to be held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on 5th & 6th January, 2023.

The Government is deliberating on the preparation of the Action Plan and Vision Document of India@2047.
Water Vision@2047 is part of PM’s India@2047 plan.
Thematic sessions will be organised at the conference to focus on water security, water use efficiency, water governance, water infrastructure and water quality.
Ministers of State for Water Resources, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Irrigation of all States/Union Territories of the country will participate.
The participants will have to prepare a blueprint of Water Vision @ 2047 and prepare a road map to overcome the water problems of the country.

8. PM to address 108th Indian Science Congress to be held in Nagpur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) on 3rd January, 2023 through video conferencing. The 108 Indian national Science Congress is being organised by the Indian Science Congress Association from 3-7 January 2023 at the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University.
The 107 Indian Science Congress 2022 was held at the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK Campus, Bangalore, Karnataka in January 2022.
Theme of the 108th Indian Science Congress 2023: Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment”.
The Congress will hold discussions on issues of sustainable development, women empowerment and the role of science & technology in achieving this. A special programme to showcase the contribution of women in science and technology will also be held, which will also witness lectures by renowned women scientists.
Other Programmes at the ISC
Several other programmes will also be organised alongside ISC. Children’s Science Congress will also be organised to help stimulate scientific interest and temperament among children. Farmer’s Science Congress will provide a platform to improve the bio-economy and attract youth to agriculture.

Indian Science Congress Association
The Indian Science Congress Association owes its origin to the two British Chemists, Professor J. L. Simonsen and Professor P. S. Mac Mahon. It was set up in Kolkata in 1914.
It was their view that scientific research in India would be stimulated if an annual meeting of research workers somewhat on the lines of the British Association for the Advancement of Science could be arranged.
Every year its members meet annually in the first week of January named Indian Science Congress. The first session of the Congress was held in 1914.
9. Union Home Minister presides over the conference of Lieutenant Governors, Administrators of Union Territories

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the conference on development works in Union Territories in New Delhi on 29 December.
Important facts
Lieutenant Governors and Administrators of UTs including from Delhi, Chandigarh, Andaman and Nicobar, Puducherry, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir attended the conference.
The conference reviewed the economic development, tourism and major schemes and future roadmap of the Union Territories to ensure their strong growth.
Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta and Umang Narula, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh represented Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh UTs respectively.
The objective of the conference is to ensure the development of the Union Territories in all respects including development works, projects and centrally sponsored schemes, besides ensuring that they (schemes) do not miss the deadline.
The focus of the conference was on economic development, tourism potential and flagship schemes.
In another programme, Shah also inaugurated the Border Security Force’s BSF App and BSF Manuals.
10. UIDAI wins DSCI best Security practices award in the government sector award

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has won the Data Security Council of India's (DSCI) Best Security Practices in Government Sector award.
The award was given to UIDAI during DSCI's three day Annual Information Security Summit (AISS) in Gurugram for its significant role in securing national critical Aadhaar infrastructure that provides digital identity based welfare services to residents.
The Annual Information Security Summit (AISS) was organised by Nasscom -DSCI from 20-22 December in Gurugram. Data Security Council of India is a premier industry body on data protection in India. It was set up by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM).
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.
It was set up on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
UIDAI was created to issue Unique Identification numbers (UID), Aadhaar, to all residents of India. It issues a 12 digit biometric Aadhaar number to the residents of India after satisfying the verification process laid down by the Authority.
