1. India joins the group of countries providing 5G telephony services

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services in the country at the 6th India Mobile Congress in New Delhi on 1 October. India now joined the select group of countries that provide 5G telephony services.
Important facts
Airtel has launched 5G services in 8 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Varanasi, while Reliance Jio will launch it by Diwali.
Vodafone Idea will also start 5G roll out soon. After the introduction of 5G, people will be able to experience 10 times faster internet speed than 4G.
Telecom operators have promised to roll out 5G services in every corner of India by December 2023.
Countries currently offering 5G services
Countries where 5G has been recently launched include Argentina, Bhutan, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Malta and Mauritius.
China has rolled out the most comprehensive 5G network. It is followed by South Korea, United States of America, Spain, United Kingdom, Canada, Finland.
According to a report published by OpenSignal (Benchmarking the Global 5G Experience) in June 2022, South Korea topped the list of countries with the highest 5G download speeds, crossing 400 Mbps.
Malaysia and Sweden are ranked second and third with download speeds of 382.2 Mbps and 333.9 Mbps respectively.
What is 5G technology?
The fifth generation mobile network is called 5G.
The 5G network will operate in the millimeter-wave spectrum (30-300 GHz) which can send huge amounts of data at very high speeds.
It is the newest upgrade in Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband networks.
Internet speeds in the high-band spectrum of 5G have been tested to exceed 20 Gbps (gigabit per second).

3. Central government appoints Sujoy Lal Thaosen as head of CRPF and Anish Dayal Singh as ITBP head

The Union Ministry of Personnel on 1 October 2022 ,announced the appointment of Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Sujoy Lal Thaosen and Anish Dayal Singh as the new Director Generals of the CRPF and ITBP respectively. The notification was issued by the ministry after the Cabinet Committee on Appointment headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved their names.
Sujoy Lal Thaosen is a 1988 batch officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently working as the Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and is holding the additional charge of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
Anish Dayal Singh is a 1988-batch officer of Manipur cadre and is currently serving as a special director in the Intelligence Bureau.
Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF)
There are seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in India. They are under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. These are ;

4. 129 football fans dies in a stampede at football match in Indonesia

At least 129 people were killed and dozens injured in a stampede after violence broke out at a football match held on 1 October 2022 in Indonesia. The incident occurred during a football match of Indonesian top league BRI Liga 1 at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang Regency in East Java.
According to the police, supporters from the losing side Arema FC invaded the pitch following a match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya, leading to a stampede and cases of suffocation.
The league has suspended games for a week following the riot and the Arema FC team has also been prohibited from hosting any matches for the rest of the competition this season.

5. Airtel becomes the first telecom company to launch 5 g services in India

Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of 5g mobile service in 8 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Siliguri on 1 October 2022. He announced the launch of 5 g service from 1 October 2022 during the 6th Indian Mobile Congress being held in New Delhi from 1-4 October 2022. Airtel became the first telecom company to launch the 5g service in India. It intends to cover the whole of India by March 2024.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mobile Congress on 1 October and the theme of the Mobile Congress is: ``New digital Universe".
Mukesh Ambani owned Jio Telecom has announced that it will roll out its services in the four metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai by Diwali and the whole country would be covered by December 2023.
Jio 5G will be the world`s largest and most advanced 5G network. Unlike other operators, Jiu’s 5G network will be stand alone with zero dependency on 4G network.
Vodafone Idea has not yet disclosed its 5g roll out plan.
6. Burkina Faso leader Damiba deposed in a military coup

A group of Burkina Faso army soldiers announced on 30 September 2022 that they have removed Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba from the post of President, who himself came to power through a military coup.
The soldiers introduced Captain Ibrahim Traore as the new leader of the country.
Traore said Burkina Faso's government and constitution had been dissolved.
Leaders of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), the political and economic union of fifteen countries in the region, condemned the coup.

7. Indore adjudged the cleanest city in India for the consecutive sixth time: Swachh Survekshan Awards 2022

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs announced Indore as the cleanest city of India for the consecutive sixth time in its 7th Swachh Survekshan Awards 2022’ ,announced on 1 October 2022.
The award was presented to the winner State and the cities by the President Droupadi Murmu at a function held in New Delhi on 1 October 2022.
The Madhya Pradesh City of Indore was followed by Surat of Gujarat and Navi Mumbai of Maharashtra,who were ranked second and third respectively.

Madhya Pradesh was ranked the cleanest State followed by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra at the second and third place respectively.
Cities having a population of less than one lakh
In the category of cities having a population of less than one lakh, Maharashtra’s Panchgani was ranked number one, followed by Chhattisgarh’s Patan (NP) and Maharashtra’s Karhad.
Cities having a population of more than one lakh along Ganga River
Haridwar was adjudged the cleanest Ganga town in the category of more than 1 lakh population, followed by Varanasi and Rishikesh.

Bijnor of Uttar Pradesh adjudged the cleanest Ganga town in the category of less than 1 lakh population, followed by Kannauj and Garhmukhteshwar, all of Uttar Pradesh.

SWACHH SURVEKSHAN
Swachh Survekshan is the world’s largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey which has been conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs since 2016. The aim of the Swachh Survekshan is to foster a spirit of healthy competition among towns and cities so as to improve their service delivery to citizens and towards creating cleaner cities.
In the first Swachh Survekshan 2016, 73 major cities were surveyed. However in the 7th edition of Swachh Survekshan 2022, 4,355 cities were surveyed making it the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey
This year’s survey with a “People First” theme received over an unprecedented 9 crores, feedback, a marked increase from last year’s 5 crores.
