1. 61st National Open Athletics Championships 2022 starts at Bengaluru

The 61st Senior National Open Athletics Championships 2022 was inaugurated by the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai at the Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru on 15 October 2022. The Senior National Open Athletics Championships 2022 is being organised by the Athletics Federation of India.
The five day championships which will be held from 15-19 October 2202 will see participation of over 800 participants from across the country competing in 47 medal events.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said that the Karnataka government said that as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav the state government will train 75 athletes for the next summer Olympics to be held in Paris France in 2024.
Athletics Federation of India
It is the apex sports body for athletics in India. It conducts various athletics championships in the country and is a member of the World Athletics and Asian Athletics.
It was set up in 1943.

Addressing the 18th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM) in New Delhi on October 15, 2022, Defence minister Rajnath Singh reaffirmed India’s resolve for open, free and rule-based maritime borders in the Indo-Pacific region.

The 18th HACGAM is being organised by the Indian Coast Guard in coordination with HACGAM secretariat from October 14-18, 2022 in New Delhi.
The 17th HACGAM was hosted by Vietnam Coast Guard virtually in 2021. The 1st HACGAM was hosted by Japan Coast Guard in 2004 at Tokyo.

Speaking on the occasion the minister said that oceanic space should be respected as a global common for the benefit of all humanity in an environmentally sustainable way. The minister stressed that India’s shared vision of ‘SAGAR’ (Security and Growth of All in Region), Sustainable Development Goals and ‘Rule Based Order at Sea’ complement the focused Indian approach of inclusive growth and lasting collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region.

The HACGAM is a multilateral forum of 23 countries; Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos ,Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkiye, Vietnam and one Region i.e. Hong Kong (China).

3. India wins the Women’s cricket Asia Cup for the seventh time beating Sri Lanka

The Indian women’s cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur crushed Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final of the 8th Women’s Asia Cup 2022 and won it for the 7th time. The final was played at the Sylhet International cricket stadium, Sylhet in Bangladesh on 15 October 2022.
Bangladesh was the host of the 8th women’s Asia Cup cricket 2022, held from 1 October to 15 October 2022.
Bangladesh is the only other country apart from India which has won the Asia cup in 2018.
Seven teams, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh and United Arab Emirates participated in the 8th women’s Asia Cup which was played in the T 20 format.
Thailand's team created history when they defeated Pakistan to reach the semi-final of the tournament.

The first Asia Women’s cup was held in 2004 in Sri Lanka which was won by India.

India has won it 7 times and Bangladesh once in 2018.

4. Meenaskshi Lekhi leads Indian delegation at the 6th CICA Summit meeting at Astana

Union Minister for External Affairs Meenaskshi Lekhi led the Indian delegation at the 6th Conference on Confidence Building Measures and Interaction in Asia (CICA) summit held on 12-13 October 2022 at the Kazakhstan capital, Astana.
Replying to the Statement of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif on Kashmir she said that Pakistan is misusing the CICA for propagating malicious propaganda against India. She said that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.
Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA)
The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is a multi-national forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia.
The idea of convening CICA was first proposed by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, on 5 October 1992, at the 47th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
27 countries including India, China, and Pakistan are members of CICA.

The First summit meeting was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 4 June 2022. It was attended by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

5. 5th South Asian GEO India-2022 to be held in Jaipur from 14 -16 October 2022

The three day (14 -16 October) 5th South Asian Geoscience Conference, GEO India 2022 will be held in the Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur. The conference aims at sharing the latest research on improved production of natural gas and oil.
The Conference will be inaugurated by the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and will be attended by over 100 experts from across India and other countries including the US, Norway and the European countries.
The conference is being organized by the Association of Petroleum Geologists (APG).
The theme of the 5th South Asian Geoscience Conference, GEO India 2022 is : ‘Fossil fuels, decarbonization and changing energy dynamics’.
6. All India law ministers conference to be held in Gujarat from 14th – 16th October, 2022

The Union Ministry of Law and Justice will host an All India Conference of Law Ministers and Law Secretaries at Ekta Nagar in the Narmada district of Gujarat from 14th to 16th October, 2022.
Law Ministers and Law Secretaries from States and Union Territories will be participating in the conference. The Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju will address the conference on 15 October.
The conference will discuss a variety of topics relating to India's legal system so that policymakers may develop a road map for the country's future.
7. IAEA chief Rafael Gross calls for protecting Zaporizhzhia nuclear power in a meeting with President Putin in Russia

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Gross met the Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg, amid concern over the safety of the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
Rafael Gross met Putin after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv last week.
Rafael Gross called for setting up a protection zone around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear power plant and asserted that they cannot lose any more time. He emphasised that Russia and Ukraine must do everything to help in ensuring that a nuclear accident does not occur during the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
Concern over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant
The 6000 MW Zaporizhzhia nuclear power complex is the largest European nuclear power complex which has been occupied by the invading Russian forces since early March 2022.
The area has been heavily fortified by the Russian military and the Ukrainian forces are also launching a counter attack. This has led to the fear that the nuclear complex could be hit in an attack which could lead to a nuclear catastrophe in the area.

8. India to host 3rd WADA Athlete Biological Passport Symposium- 2022” in New Delhi

India will host the 3rd WADA(World Anti-Doping Agency) Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) Symposium- 2022” in New Delhi from 12-14 October 2022.The Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Singh Thakur will address the opening session of the Symposium.
The 3rd WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) Symposium- 2022” is being organised by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL).
The first WADA ABP Symposium was hosted by Qatar in 2015 and the second was hosted by Italy at Rome in 2018.
Two hundred plus participants from 56 Countries, WADA Officials, representatives and Experts from different National Anti-Doping Organizations, Athlete Passport Management Units (APMUs) and WADA Accredited Laboratories are participating in this Symposium.
World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was established in 1999 as an international independent agency composed and funded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and governments of the world.
Its main aim is to fight against the unauthorized use of performance enhancing drugs (Dope) by the athletes in sports.

9. Nitin Gadkari launches Toyota’s pilot project on Flex-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari launched Toyota’s first of its kind pilot project on Flex-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India on 11 October 2022, which would run on 100% petrol as well as 20 to 100% blended ethanol and electric power.
The Toyota car which was unveiled by the minister has been imported from Toyota Brazil. Flex-fuel vehicles are at present available in Brazil, the USA and Canada.
Ethanol in India is mainly derived from molasses of the sugarcane.
An FFV SHEV has a flex-fuel engine and an electric powertrain, providing dual benefit of higher ethanol use and greater fuel efficiency. It can run for a significant time period on its Electric Vehicle mode, wherein the engine is shut off.
Flex-fuel compatible cars can run on more than one type of fuel and also a mixture of fuel. It typically runs on a blend of petrol and ethanol or methanol is used.
FFVs provide an opportunity of greater substitution of petrol by ethanol as it is capable of using any of the higher blends of ethanol mix from 20 per cent up to 100 per cent.
Toyota was also the first company in India to launch India's first green hydrogen-based advanced fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), Toyota Mirai.
Toyota Motor Company of Japan has a joint venture with Kirloskar in India and the company is called as Toyota Kirloskar Motor ltd.
10. Praveen Giri wins silver medal in Water Technology at World Skill Competition 2022

B.Tech final year student in Mechanical Engineering of C.V. Raman Global University Odisha, Praveen Kumar Giri, won the silver medal for India in Water Technology at the World Skills Competition 2022, held at Stuttgart, Germany on 10 October 2022.
He is the second Indian to win a medal in the world skill competition after Aswastha Narayana won the gold medal in water technology at the 2019 event in Kazan, Russia.
In water technology, a total of 7 countries participated this time including Singapore, Japan, South Africa, Germany, and Korea.”
The Gold Medal was won by Singapore, Silver by India and Bronze was won by Japan.
