  • In the first match of Group H, Portugal captain Ronaldo scored the first goal in the 65th minute, becoming the first male footballer to score in five different World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022).

  • With this record, Ronaldo has left behind Pele of Brazil, Uwe Seeler of Germany and Miraslov Klose who have scored goals in four World Cups.

  • 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo has increased his international goal count to 118. He scored his eighth career World Cup goal in a 3–2 win against Ghana.

  • Fourth seeded Bhukya came from behind to beat Andhra Pradesh’s Akhil Reddy Boba 19-21, 21-12, 22-20 in 44 minutes whereas Patri took just 22 minutes to brush aside local challenger and 15th seeded Divyanshi Gautam 21-7, 21-10.

  • Earlier this month, Petrie won his maiden National U-13 ranking tournament in Maharashtra with a dominant performance against Agra's Gautam.

  • In the boys' final, Bhukya found it difficult to handle Boba in the first game as the Andhra shuttler raced to a 15-11 lead before winning the game 21-19.

  • But after the change of ends, fourth seed Bhukya bounced back to beat Boba. In the decisive match, Bhukya won in a close fight.

  • Meanwhile, the Indian Navy downed the Indian Air Force 3-1 in the opening round.

  • The event provided an opportunity to outstanding sportsmen for getting selected to the Services Volleyball team.

  • World number 44 Manika beat Chen 4-3 (6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-9) in the women's singles quarterfinals.

  • She takes on Japan’s Mima Ito in the semifinals on 19 November.

  • Former men’s singles player Chetan Baboor is the only Indian table tennis player to win a medal at the Asian Cup. He won silver in 1997 and bronze in 2000.

  • In men's singles, world number 39 Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and India's national champion Sharath Kamal, ranked number 44, suffered early exits.

Asian Cup Table Tennis Tournament

  • It is an annual table tennis competition held by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU).

  • Its first edition was organized in 1983. The competition consists of men's and women's singles events, with 16 players qualifying to compete in each event.

15th Asian Airgun Championships in South Korea

In shooting, India continued to dominate as they wrapped up their campaign at the 15th Asian Airgun Championships in South Korea (Deagu) with 25 gold medals, including two gold medals on the final day on November 18, 2022.

  • Manu Bhaker and Samrat Rana won the 10m air pistol mixed team junior event, while Rhythm Sangwan and Vijayveer Sidhu won the gold in the senior event.

  • India dominated the event winning 25 out of 28 events in eight days.

  • Sangwan and Sidhu defeated Valery Rakhimzhan and Irina Yunusmetova of Kazakhstan 17-3 in the final of the air pistol mixed team event.

  • He topped the qualification round with a score of 579 while Kazakhstan was second with a score of 577.

  • The other Indian pair of Shiva Narwal and Yuvika Tomar finished fourth in qualifying with a score of 573 but lost 6-16 to the Korean pair to miss out on the bronze medal.

  • In the junior air pistol mixed team event, Manu and Samrat shot a qualification score of 578 to finish second behind Uzbekistan's Nigina Sadkulova and Mukhamed Kamalov (579).

  • In the final, the Indian pair won 17-3 to claim the first position.

  • India's other pair of Sagar Dangi and Isha Singh also made it to the bronze medal match out of two in the event but they too lost 14-16 to Korea's Lee Seungjun and Yang Jin.

The International Paralympic Committee has suspended the National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) of Russia and Belarus with immediate effect on November 17, 2022, dashing the hopes of para-athletes competing in the 2024 Paralympics.

  • Earlier athletes from both countries were barred from competing in the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics in March.

  • Russia's suspension was passed by 64 votes against 39 at the IPC's Extraordinary General Assembly in Berlin.

  • The suspension of the NPC of Belarus passed by 54 votes against 45.

  • Both NPCs have been suspended for "inability to comply with their membership obligations under the IPC constitution".

  • Due to the suspension, NPC Russia and NPC Belarus lose all rights and privileges of IPC membership, as per the IPC constitution.

  • The Russian team was also banned from the Rio Paralympics in 2016 over doping.

  • NPC Russia and NPC Belarus have the right to appeal against this decision.

Olympic medalists MC Mary Kom, PV Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu and Gagan Narang are among 10 eminent sports persons selected as members of the Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) Athletes Commission on November 14, 2022.

  • The other seven members of the apex body are - Tokyo Olympics silver medallist weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, 2012 Olympics bronze winner shooter Gagan Narang, veteran table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal, hockey player Rani Rampal, cyclist Bhavani Devi, rower Bajrang Lal and former shot putter OP Karhana.

  • All the 10 elected members of the apex body, five men and five women, were elected unopposed in the election.

  • India's first Olympic individual gold medalist shooter Abhinav Bindra and former hockey captain Sardar Singh will join the commission as members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Asian Olympic Council (OCA), both with voting rights.

  • Bindra was elected a member of the IOC Athletes Commission for eight years in 2018 while Sardar Singh became a member of the OCA Athletes Commission for four years in 2019.

  • Under the new constitution of the Indian Olympic Association, the commission should have an equal number of female and male representatives.

  • Two members of the commission will be in the IOA Executive Council whose election is to be held on December 10.

  • The Fit India Movement, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2019, launched its annual 'Fit India School Week' program in December the same year.

  • It is dedicated to encourage schools to develop fitness habits in students and to increase awareness about fitness and sports.

  • This edition has added two mascots named "Toofan and Toofani" to its flagship, with both representing India's fittest superheroes and superwomen.

  • To make the mascots more connected to the sport, they have been given superpowers such as wind sprinting (athletics), car lifting (weightlifting) and concentration skills (chess).

  • They connect with people by narrating various stories about sports and fitness thereby motivating, educating and encouraging them.
