At the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships in Shotgun, India finished fifth with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Osijek, Croatia.
Important facts
Shotgun powerhouses Italy, Great Britain and the USA finished the top three.
China prevailing over India on the medal tally by virtue of winning a silver more, both the Asian giants had the same medal haul.
The United States won the gold medal in the women's skeet team event on the final day of 12 October, with Indian trio Maheshwari Chauhan, Darshana Rahore and Raija Dhillon finishing 10th in the qualification.
In the men's skeet team, India's Gurjot Khangura, Mairaj Ahmed Khan and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka were placed ninth out of 22 teams.
Italy won its seventh gold in this event.
The ISSF World Championships has now shifted to Cairo, Egypt for the rifle and pistol leg.

2. Anurag Thakur inaugurates Water Sports Centre in Himachal Pradesh

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur has inaugurated a Water Sports Centre in Koldam Barmana, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh on 9 October.

The water sports centre, a first of its kind in Himachal Pradesh, has been jointly started by Sports Authority of India (SAI) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also exchanged between SAI and NTPC during the event.
It has been jointly initiated by Sports Authority of India (SAI) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
The centre will be dedicated to training athletes in water sports such as rowing, canoeing and kayaking.
The centre will select 40 players who will take part in rowing, kayaking and canoeing. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and will also provide hostel and training facilities to boys and girls.

3. Harmanpreet, Rizwan win ICC Player of the Month awards for September

India women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan won the ICC Player of the Month awards for September-2022 in the women's and men's categories.

Harmanpreet Kaur became India's first ever winner of the ICC Women's Player of the Month due to her leading role in her team's first ODI series win in England since 1999.
She performed brilliantly during the ODI series, scoring 221 runs in three matches, maintaining a strike rate of 103.47 and getting dismissed only once.
The women cricketers selected for the Women's Cricket Award included Bangladesh's Nigar Sultana and India's captains Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana.

4. FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup 2022 begins today

7. PR Sreejesh, Savita Punia voted FIH Men's and Women's Goalkeeper of the Year

PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia have been voted FIH Men's and Women's Goalkeeper of the Year for the second year in a row.

Indian women's hockey team captain Savita Punia and veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh won the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year title in both men's and women's categories based on their performances.
Savita is the third athlete to win the Goalkeeper of the Year (Female) for three consecutive years since the inception of the award in 2014.
In his 16th year as a full international for India, Sreejesh proved his mettle by appearing in all 16 games in the FIH Hockey Pro League in which India finished third.
He also participated in all six sports at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, when India won the silver medal.
Sreejesh got a total of 39.9 votes, followed by Belgium's Loik van Dooren (26.3 points) and Netherlands' Primin Bloc (23.2 points).
It was voted online by experts (40%), teams (20%), fans (20%), and media (20%).
Sreejesh is the third consecutive player to win the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year title.
Earlier, David Hurt (Ire) had won the award twice in 2015 and 2016, while Vincent Vanash (Belgium) won the award three times in a row from 2017 to 2019.

In the Road Safety World Series T20 2022, Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends team created history by defeating Sri Lanka Legends by 33 runs in Raipur on 1 September. The team won this title for the second time in a row.
