World Pneumonia Day was first observed on 12 November 2009 under 'Stop Pneumonia', an initiative of the Global Coalition Against Child Pneumonia.
After that, WHO and UNICEF launched an integrated global action plan to prevent and control pneumonia.
What is Pneumonia?
Pneumonia is an infection in one or both lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi.
Any infection causes inflammation in the lungs, which is called pneumonia.
Although most pneumonia is caused by bacterial infection.
Viral infections like influenza or covid-19 virus can also affect the lungs and cause serious damage to them.
Symptoms include high fever and chills, cough with phlegm, physical weakness and feeling unwell, shortness of breath and rapid breathing, and rapid pulse.

The Ministry of Education ( Formerly The Ministry of Human Resource Development) sets a different theme for National Education Day every year.
The theme of this year is "Changing Course, Transforming Education".
Background of the day
In 2008 the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education) decided to celebrate Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's birthday as National Education Day.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was born in 1888 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
A freedom fighter, he started Al-Hilal, a weekly magazine in Urdu, in 1912 to criticise British policies.
After al-Hilal was banned, he started another weekly al-Bagah.
He was opposed to partition and a supporter of Hindu-Muslim unity.
He supported the non-cooperation movement (1920–22) started by Gandhiji and joined the Indian National Congress in 1920.
In 1923 he was elected as the President of the Indian National Congress. At the age of 35 he became the youngest person to preside over the Indian National Congress.
In 1947, he became the first Education Minister of independent India and he remained in this post till his death in 1958.
5. Odisha celebrated 'Mandia Day'

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced to observe the first Thursday of the Margasira month of the Hindu calendar on November 10 as 'Mandia Day' or 'Millet Day' in the state.

Its objective is to popularise and promote the use and cultivation of superfood- millet among the people.
Odisha has become the first state in the country to declare November 10 as a day dedicated to millets.
The state government started the Odisha Millet Mission in the year 2017-18.
It is a flagship program of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment.
Initially Millet Mission was implemented in 30 blocks of seven districts of the state. Now it is being implemented in 142 blocks of 19 districts.
On the first Thursday of Margasira month people across the state worship Mahalaxmi and offer millet to the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
Apart from millet snacks, ragi sweets have also been included in the mid-day meals of schools in Sundergarh and Keonjhar districts.
The United Nations General Assembly has declared the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets after India proposed it to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
About Millets
Millets are high nutrient cereal crops and are classified as small seeded grasses.
They include jowar (sorghum), ragi (finger millet), korra (foxtail millet), arke (kodo millet), sama (little millet), bajra (pearl millet), chena/barr (proso millet) and sanwa (barnyard millet).
India is one of the major producers of millets in the world with an estimated share of about 41% in the global production.
Major producers of millets are Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Haryana.
Millet has been notified as a nutritional cereal by the government in April 2018.
They are a rich source of protein, fiber, minerals, iron, and calcium and have a low glycemic index.
The production of millets in India has increased by 16 % to 17.26 million tonnes (MT) in the 2019-20 crop year (July-June) from 14.5 MT in 2015-16.
In March 2021, India led a UN General Assembly resolution to declare 2023 as the International Year of Millets.
India's proposal was supported by 72 countries.
India is the 5th largest exporter of Millets globally.
6. National Legal Services Day

It is celebrated to commemorate the commencement of the Legal Services Authorization Act, 1987, which came into force on 9 November 1995.

7. Uttarakhand Foundation Day

Uttarakhand Foundation Day also known as Uttarakhand Day is celebrated every year on 9 November. The state of Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh on 9 November 2000.
How was Uttarakhand formed?
In 1950, the name of the United Provinces was changed to Uttar Pradesh.
However, the government of Uttar Pradesh could not meet the needs of the people of this Himalayan region.
Hence, people started demanding a separate state in the form of Uttarakhand after the formation of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal.
There was a widespread movement in the 90s for the demand for a separate state which turned violent in 1994.
Eventually, on November 9, 2000, the 27th state of India, Uttaranchal was formed by the Uttar Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000.
Its name was changed to Uttarakhand on 1 January 2007.

Background of the day
X-rays were discovered by Professor Wilhelm Konrad Röntgen in the year 1895, when he was working with cathode-ray tubes in his laboratory.
He observed a fluorescent glow of crystals on a table near his tube, which contained a bulb with negative and positive electrodes.
When air was removed from the tube and a high voltage was applied, the tube produced a fluorescent glow.
When the tube was covered with black paper and that material was placed a few feet away from the tube, it generated a green fluorescent light.
He found that the rays could pass through human tissues but not through bones and metal.
The first World Radiography Day was observed in 2007 by the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists on 8 November.
9. National Cancer Awareness Day

10. World Tsunami Awareness Day

The highest number of deaths during this period was in the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004.
The theme of this 2022 day in Asia-Pacific is 'Early warning and early action before every tsunami'.
Background of World Tsunami Awareness Day
In December 2015, the United Nations General Assembly designated 5 November as World Tsunami Awareness Day.
The United Nations called on countries, civil societies and international bodies to share innovative strategies to increase tsunami awareness and reduce risk.
The day was established on the suggestion of the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) countries which included Japan.
The first World Tsunami Awareness Day was observed worldwide on 5 November 2016.
This awareness day was organised in New Delhi in collaboration with the Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction 2016 and the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi.
