1. India win the SAFF U 18 WOMEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2022 title

The Indian women's team emerged as champion of the 3rd South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-18 Women’s Championship 2022. This is the first time India has won this title.
India was crowned champion on a better goal difference as compared to Bangladesh. India enjoyed a better goal difference of +11 in comparison to +3 of Bangladesh.
The highest goal scorer of the championship, Lynda Kom of India was declared the most valuable player of the tournament. She scored 5 goals in the championship.
The SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship 2022 was held in JRD Tata sports complex, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand from 15 to 25 March 2022.
Three teams India, Bangladesh and Nepal participated in the championship.
SAFF (South Asian Football Federation)
The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) is an organization working to develop and make football more accessible for everyone within the South Asian region.
SAFF was formed in 1997 by founding Member Associations from Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and SriLanka.
SAFF is now composed of seven Member Associations including Bhutan.

2. India won two medals at the WTT Contender Doha 2022

Indian Table Tennis players won two medals at the recently concluded World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Doha 2022. The WTT Contender took place at Lusail Sports Arena, Doha from 21-24 March 2022.
Medal winners for India
G Sathiyan and Manika Batra finished as runner-up in the mixed doubles of WTT Contender Doha 2022, losing to the top-seeded Chinese Taipei pair of Lin Yun-Ju and Cheng I-Ching.
Achanta Sharath Kamal won the bronze medal in the men’s singles after he lost the semi final match against Yuan Licen of China.

Dang Qiu of Germany won the gold medal by defeating the Chinese player Yuan Licen in final
Women’s Singles Final
Fan Siqi of China won the gold medal by defeating the fellow Chinese Zhang Rui in the final
Men’s Doubles Final
The Swedish pair of Kristian Karlsson/Mattias Falck won the gold medal by defeating the German pair of Ricardo Walther/Killian Ort in the final .
Women’s Doubles Final
The Japanese pair of Miyuu Kihara/Miyu Nagasaki won the gold medal by defeating the Chinese pair of Huang Yi-Hua/Chen Szu-Yu in the final.
3. Service and Kerala win 34th Federation Cup volleyball championships

The 34th Federation Cup volleyball championships was held at the KIIT indoor stadium, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.

Service team defeated Railway to win the title
Odisha team came third after defeating National Champion Haryana
Women winner
National champion Kerala won the women's title after defeating Railways 3-0 in the round-robin decider. Railways finished runner-up.
4. R. Praggnanandhaa shocks World Champion Magnus Carlssen

16 years old chess prodigy from Chennai, India R. Praggnanandhaa defeated World Chess champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway in the Airthings Masters online rapid chess tournament,
Earlier he defeated world no 4 player Levon Aronian of Armenia.
The Airthings Masters is a 16-player online rapid tournament.
5. Mumbai to host IOC session in 2023

Mumbai was selected as the host of the 2023 International Olympics (IOC) session.
It was selected at the 139th IOC session held at Beijing, China where the 24th winter olympics came to an end on 20 February 2022.
A total of 82 IOC members were eligible for voting, out of which 6 voted for abstention, while 75 members voted yes. Only one vote went against Mumbai as the host of the next IOC Session.
This is the second time India will host the IOC session after the 86th session was held in 1983 at New Delhi.
The Mumbai session is expected to announce the host of the 2030 winter olympics.

6. Beijing winter olympics 2022 comes to an end

The 24th winter olympics came to an end on 20 February 2022 at a colourful ceremony in the “Bird Nest” stadium Beijing, China.The Chinese President Xi Jingping was the chief guest at the occasion along with the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.
Thomas Bach officially declared the games as over and symbolically handed the games to the next winter olympics host Milano-Cortina.
The Italian city of Milano-Cortina will host the event in 2026.

From India there was only one competitor, Arif Khan from the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. He is the first ever Indian to qualify for winter olympics.
He participated in two events. In the giant slalom event he finished 45th while he was unable to complete the men’s slalom event.

Fact File Winter Olympics
The winter olympics is organised by the International Olympic Committee every four years on snow or ice.
The first winter olympics was held in Chamonix (France), in 1924. Initially called the “International Winter Sports Week”, this event was renamed the “1st Olympic Winter Games” only in 1926 at the IOC Session in Lisbon(Portugal).
The decision to create a separate Winter Games cycle was taken at the 1925 IOC Session in Prague(Czech Republic).
It was not held in 1940 and 1944 due to the second world war and resumed in 1948 at St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Until 1992 the winter and the summer olympics were held in the same year but a decision was taken to separate the events. The next winter olympics took place in 1994 and since then it has been held in even years, that is 1998. It is usually held in the month of February.
The winter olympics has been held in three continents: North America, Europe and Asia.
The United States has hosted the event a maximum 4 times (1932,1960,1980, 2002) followed by France in (1924, 1968, 1992).
As of 2022, twelve countries have participated in every Winter Olympic Games – Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Britain, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
Norway has till date (2022) won the maximum medal in the Winter Olympics . It has won a total of 405 medals.
7. Argentina and Brazil to replay their World Cup qualifier football match

FIFA has ordered Argentina and Brazil to replay their world cup qualifier match after the match in september 2021 was suspended just minutes after kickoff due to breach in covid protocol.
The match at NeoQuimica Arena in Sao Paulo was halted after five minutes when Brazilian health officials invaded the pitch to stop Argentina's England-based players from playing, saying they had breached the country's COVID-19 quarantine rules.

9. Ishan Kishan the highest priced player at the IPL 2022

Wicket- keeper batsman Ishan Kishan was bought by Mumbai India for Rs 15.25 crores. He became the highest priced player for the 15th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Deepak Chahar was the second highest priced player and he was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14 Crore.
