UNWTO was established in 1975 and five years after this, World Tourism Day started.
In 1997, at its fifth session in Istanbul, Turkey, the UNWTO decided that one country would host World Tourism Day every year.
The hosting of World Tourism Day, 2022 has been handed over to Indonesia.
2. International Day for Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons

Background of the day
The United Nations General Assembly, under its resolution 68/32, at the High Level Meeting of the General Assembly on Nuclear Disarmament, held in New York on 26 September 2013, announced the observance of this day in December 2013.
International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons has been observed annually since 2014.
On July 7, 2017, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was adopted.
The treaty is significant because it is the first legally binding multilateral instrument for nuclear disarmament in 20 years.
Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone
In 1967 Nuclear weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (Treaty of Tlatelolco), which established the first nuclear weapons-free zone in a highly populated region.
In 1985 the South Pacific became the second nuclear-weapon-free zone (Treaty of Rarotonga).
In 1995 Southeast Asia became the third nuclear-weapon-free zone (Bangkok Treaty).
In 1996 Africa became the fourth nuclear-weapon-free zone (Pelindaba Treaty).
In 2006 Central Asia became the fifth nuclear-weapon-free zone (Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia).
3. World Rivers Day

In 2005, the United Nations declared Water for Life Decade (World River Day) by all countries to take care of water resources or to make people aware of water.
Since then International River Day is celebrated every year on 25 September.
Mark Angelo, an internationally renowned river activist, started the Thompson River clean-up program in British Columbia in September 1980.
Following the success of this event, Angelo proposed to celebrate World River Day.
4. Antyodaya Diwas 2022

This year Antyodaya Diwas is the 106th birth anniversary of Upadhyay.
Antyodaya means "uplifting the poorest of the poor" or "rise of the last person".
The day was declared by the Government of India on September 25, 2014 and is being officially celebrated since the year 2015.
About Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya
He was born on September 25, 1916 in Chandrabhan village near Farah town in Mathura district, now known as Deendayal Dham.
His father's name was Bhagwati Prasad and he was an astrologer, mother's name was Rampyari.
The philosophy presented by him is called 'Integral Humanism'.
Its objective was to present an 'indigenous socio-economic model' in which human beings are at the centre of development.
Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay opposed western 'capitalist individualism' and 'Marxist socialism' and welcomed modern technology and western science.
5. World Maritime Day

Every year, on 24 September, World Maritime Day is observed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other international organizations.

World Maritime Day was first observed in March 1978. At that time it was celebrated to mark the IMO Convention.

Earlier the IMO was called the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization.

- The Indian Army celebrates 23 September every year as Haifa Day to pay respect to the three Indian Cavalry Regiments - Mysore, Hyderabad and Jodhpur Lancers.
Its main purpose is to show respect to the Indian soldiers who fought in the Battle of Haifa.
The Battle of Haifa took place on 23 September 1918.
In the war, soldiers from Jodhpur, Mysore and Hyderabad, (part of the 15 Imperial Service Cavalry Brigade) participated in the First World War on behalf of the Allies and liberated the Israeli city of Haifa, occupied by Germany and Turkey.
The Teen Murti Memorial in Delhi was renamed as Teen Murti Haifa Memorial by the Government of India to honour the soldiers who fought in this war.
Teen Murti Memorial was built in 1922 in memory of Indian soldiers from the three princely states of Jodhpur, Hyderabad and Mysore.

The proposal to celebrate this day was proposed by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), a federation of 135 national associations of deaf people.
The proposal was adopted unanimously on 19 December 2017.
The first 'International Sign Language Day' was organised globally in the year 2018.
The World Federation of the Deaf was established on 23 September 1951.
8. International Day of Peace
