International Mother Language Day is observed worldwide on 21st February every year to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.
The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day first came from Bangladesh. The general conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) decided to celebrate February 21 as International Mother Language Day in 2000.
The theme of the International Mother Language Day 2022 is: “Using technology for multilingual learning: Challenges and opportunities”,

2. World Radio Days

The United Nation General Assembly declared 13 February as “World Radio Days” in 2012.
The theme of the 2022 edition of World Radio Day is "Radio and Trust".
Facts
In the 1860s ,Scottish Physicist James Clerk Maxwell predicted the existence of radio waves.
In 1886, German Physicist Heinrich Hertz demonstrated the existence of electromagnetic waves as predicted by Maxwell.
American dentist and inventor Mahlon Loomis in 1866 successfully demonstrated wireless telegraphy .
- Guglielmo Marconi: An Italian inventor who proved radio communication. He sent and received the first radio signal in Italy in 1895. He is credited as the inventor of Radio in the world . He received the Nobel prize of Physics in 1909 with Karl Braun "in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy".
3. RBI Financial Literacy week 2022

6. World Cancer Day

7. Two new Indian Wetland sites designated Wetlands of International Importance

On the occasion of World wetlands day, celebrated every year on 2 February, two more Indian wetland sites have been designated as the Wetlands of International Importance or Ramsar Sites on 2 February 2022.
The new sites are Khijadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat and Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary in U.P.
Now the total number of Ramsar sites in India is 49 with a surface area of 1,093,636 hectares.
Khijadia Wildlife Sanctuar:
- Khijadia Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Jamnagar district of Gujarat. It is a bird sanctuary which hosts hundreds of migratory birds.
Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary:
- The Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary is the largest natural floodplain wetland in the district of Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Migratory birds from Tibet, China, Europe, and Siberia visit the place between November to January.
What is Wetlands
- Wetland has been defined as any land area that is saturated or flooded with water, either seasonally or permanently.
- Inland wetlands include aquifers, lakes, rivers, streams, marshes, peatlands, ponds, flood plains and swamps.
- Coastal wetlands include all coastlines, mangroves, saltmarshes, estuaries, lagoons, seagrass meadows and coral reef
Ramsar Site:
To protect the wetlands and its fragile ecosystem an international conference was organised in the city of Ramsar, Iran in 1971. The conference was called the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance.
The convention provides a framework for the conservation of wetlands.
It maintains a database of important wetlands of its member countries which are to be protected and conserved and these wetlands are also called Wetlands of International Importance or Ramsar sites.
- State having maximum site under Ramsar: Uttar Pradesh , total 10
- Largest Ramsar site in India: Sunderban of West Bengal
- Smallest Ramsar site in India: Renuka in Himachal Pradesh
- First Site to be included in Ramsar Site: Chilika Lake (Odisha) and Keoladeo National Park (Rajasthan) in 1981.
8. World Wetlands Day

Every year 2nd February is celebrated as World Wetlands Day to raise awareness about wetlands. On this day Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, was adopted in 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar.
- The theme of World Wetlands Day 2022: “Wetlands Action for People and Nature”.
- In India, this year's national-level celebration of World Wetlands day 2022 was held at Sultanpur National Park, a Ramsar site of Haryana.
9. Indian Coast Guard Raising Day

About Indian Coast Guard:
Indian Coast Guard (ICG) was officially established on 1st February 1977 by the Coast Guard Act, 1987 of the Parliament of India. It comes under the Union Ministry of Defence.
- Its main role is to prevent seaborne smuggling of goods, to ensure the safety and protection of the islands, and to provide protection and assistance to the Indian fishermen and mariners at the high seas.

10. 26th January: International Customs Day

The International Customs Day (ICD) is observed every year on 26th January to commemorate the inaugural session of the World Customs Organisation WCO), which was held on this day in 1953.
- This day raises awareness about the importance of customs authorities and their role in the smooth movement of goods across borders.
World Customs Organisation:
The World Customs Organisation was formed in 1952 as the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC).
- The main function of this independent governmental body was to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of customs administrations.
