In 2022, the theme guiding the United Nations Holocaust remembrance and education is “Memory, Dignity and Justice”.
Every year on 27th January, United Nation Educational Scientific and Educational Organisation (UNESCO) pays tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to counter antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance that may lead to group-targeted violence.
- Holocaust refers to the mass killing of the Jews or genocide of the Jews by Adolf Hitler led Nazi Germany between 1941 to 1945. An estimated sixty lakhs Jews were killed in concentration camps set up by Hitler across German occupied Europe .
- United Nations General Assembly officially proclaimed in November 2005 to commemorate this day as International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
2. 26th January: Republic Day

Republic Day is celebrated every year on 26th January, to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution which came into effect on this day in 1950.
- India will be celebrating 73rd Republic Day in 2022.
- On this day the President of India hoists the National Flag at Rajpath in New Delhi.
- There will be no Foreign Chief Guest on this Republic day due to the corona pandemic. There were no chief guests in 1952,1953, 1966,2021 and 2022.
3. 24th January: International Day of Education

The theme of the fourth “International Day of Education 2022” is ‘Changing Course, Transforming Education’.
- The International Day of Education is annually celebrated on January 24.
- The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 3rd December 2018 proclaimed the celebration of this day to mark the importance of education in ensuring peace and development.
- This year, the celebration took place at the UN Headquarters in New York, Expo 2022 in Dubai, Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and Global Minnesota.
Meanwhile, India celebrates its own National Education day celebrated on November 11 to mark the birth anniversary of India’s first Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

4. 25th January: National Tourism Day

The theme for National Tourism Day 2022 is ‘Rural and Community Centric Tourism’.
The National Tourism Day is celebrated every year across the country on January 25 to appreciate India’s beauty and spread awareness about the importance of tourism and its impact on the economy.
- The ministry of tourism is observing National Tourism Day under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, a 75-week grand celebration to mark 75 years of India’s independence. Various Programmes including cultural events, light and sound shows will also be organised at 75 major tourism centres and all tourist destinations across the country.
- The separate tourism department in India was created in 1958 by the then government to preserve the national heritage and to look after the tourist destinations for keeping their beauty intact.

5. 25th January: National Voters’ Day

The theme for voters' day 2022 is ‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’.
Every year India observes “National Voters’ Day” on January 25 to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process.
- Since 2011, National Voters’ Day has been celebrated all across the country on the 25th of January every year, to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India.
- The Election Commission of India is observing 12th National Voters’ Day today.

6. 24th January: National Girl Child Day

Every year 24th January is celebrated as National Girl Child Day to spread awareness about the gender-based discrimination that girls face in the society.
- The day was observed for the first time in 2008 as an initiative taken by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Government of India.
- The objective of the day is to spread awareness among the public about inequities faced by girls in Indian society, to promote awareness about the rights of the girl child and the importance of female education, health, and nutrition.
7. 17th National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Raising Day

Every year National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) celebrates its Raising Day on January 19, since it came into existence on January 19, 2006. The NDRF is the world's single largest force dedicated to dealing with a disaster situation or disaster.

- This special force under the Union Home Affairs Ministry was set up under the Disaster Management Act 2005.
- There are 12 NDRF battalions located in different parts of the country and comprise as many as 13,000 NDRF personnel who are working to build a safer country.
- Shri Atul Karwal, IPS, is the Director-General of NDRF.
- Motto “Apda Seva Sadaiv Sarvatra” which implies “Sustained Disaster Response Service” under all circumstances.
8. 15th January: Indian Army Day

The year 2022 marks the 74th Indian Army Day.
- Army Day in India is celebrated on 15 January every year.
- The day is marked to commemorate the day when General (later Field Marshal) KM Carriappa took over the command of the Army from General Sir FRR Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief in 1949 and became the first commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army post Independence.

9. 12th January: National Youth Day

The theme for National Youth Day 2022 is “It’s all in the mind,” a key teaching of Swami Vivekananda.
Every year 12th January the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated across India as National Youth Day, to honour one of the greatest philosophers and spiritual leaders.
- The decision to celebrate Vivekananda’s birthday as National Youth Day was taken in 1984, and it was first marked on January 12, 1985.
About Swami Vivekananda:
- A towering spiritual philosopher, Vivekananda, was born in 1863 in Kolkata and is credited for popularising the Vedantic ideas.
- Swami Vivekananda was the chief disciple of 19th century mystic and yogi Ramakrishna Paramhansa.
- He founded the Ramakrishna Math, a monastic order based on his guru’s teachings in Kolkata and a worldwide spiritual movement known as the Ramakrishna Mission based on the ancient Hindu philosophy of Vedanta.
- The revival of modern Hinduism and inspiring nationalist consciousness during colonial rule are considered to be the major achievements of Swami Vivekananda and he is best known for his famous 1893 speech at the first World’s Parliament of Religion held at Chicago, US, where he introduced Hinduism to the Western world.
10. 10th January: World Hindi Day

January 10 is celebrated as World Hindi Day or Vishwa Hindi Divas every year to spread awareness about Hindi as an international language across the world.
- It commemorates the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in Nagpur on January 10, 1975.
- In 2006, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh declared that January 10 will be observed as World Hindi Day every year.
- Hindi language is also spoken in Nepal, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Fiji, and Mauritius.
Note
It should not be confused with Hindi Diwas which is celebrated every year on 14 September to commemorate the adoption of Hindi as an official language of India by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.
