1. 22nd FIFA men’s football World cup kicks off in Qatar

The 22nd FIFA men’s world cup was formally declared open at a colourful ceremony held at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar on 20 November. It is for the first time that an Arab country is hosting the football tournament.
India was represented by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The opening ceremony witnessed performances of J Balvin, Robbie Williams, Jason Derulo, Clean Bandit, Sean Paul, Nora Fatehi, Black Eyed Peas, Jungkook of BTS, Nicki Minaj, Maluma and Myriam Fares.
The noted Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman was the narrator at the opening ceremony.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022.
32 countries from five continents are participating in the Tournaments.
The teams are host Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, the Netherlands, England, Iran, USA, Wales, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland, France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia, Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Canada, Morocco, and Croatia, Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon, Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea.
France is the current world champion having won it in 2018 world cup held in Russia.
2. Max Verstappen wins Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix for his team Red Bull

Reigning Formula One (F1) world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull team won the season ending F1 Abu Dhabi race held on 20 November 2022 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It was his record 15th title of the 2022 season. He also ended the 2022 season as the world F1 champion. He won his first F1 world championship title in 2021.
The 25 year old Max Verstappen of Holland created a number of records in the history of F1. Some of his records are as follows;
- He also holds the record for winning a maximum 15 races in a single season. He broke the previous record of 13 race victories in a season jointly held by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher (2004 season) and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel (2013 season).
- Verstappen also set a new record for scoring the most points in a single season - 454. Previously, the record was held by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton who had amassed 413 points during his championship-winning season in 2019.

3. Govt to set up 100 academies to promote archery amongst tribal children: Arjun Munda

The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda has said the government has decided to set up 100 archery academies in the country to promote talent amongst tribal children.
While speaking at a function organised to give Janjatiya Gaurav Puraskar in New Delhi on 19 November 2022, he said that his Ministry is continuously working for enhancing educational and health facilities and also focusing on generating employment in the tribal areas.

4. Monika Batra become the first Indian women to win a medal at the Asian Cup Table Tennis

Manika Batra became the first Indian women player to win a medal at the Asian cup Table Tennis tournament. She defeated world No. 6 Hina Hayata of Japan in the women’s singles bronze medal match in Bangkok, Thailand on 19 November 2022.
She became the 2nd Indian player to win a medal at the Asia Cup Table Tennis. Before her, Chetan Baboor won silver in 1997 and bronze in 2000.
The other Indian player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, India’s top-ranked men’s singles player and India’s national champion Sharath Kamal were knocked out in the opening round of men’s singles.
The three-day competition (17-19 November) was organised by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Asia Cup Table tennis is an annual tournament which has been organized since 1983. The 2020 and 2021 editions were not held because of Covid-19.
5. Hyderabad host Street Circuit Car Racing before the India’s first Formula E grand Prix to be held in February 2023

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Indian Racing League (IRL) are jointly organising India’s first ever Street Circuit Car Racing at Hyderabad on 19 and 20 November 2022.
At least 22 electric racing cars are taking part in the trial run to ensure that the track is fit for the forthcoming Formula E race and all the requirements are met as per the FIA specifications.
HMDA and IRL will hold a first-ever Formula E World Championship race in India at Hyderabad, to be held on 10 and 11 February 2023.
Formula E race is a single-seater motor racing championship where the drivers compete in single-seater cars built by Italian constructor Wolf Racing using Aprilia engines.
6. Vice President Dhankhar to attend FIFA men's world cup 2022 opening ceremony in Qatar

According to a release from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will represent India at the inauguration of the 22nd Men’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar on 20 November 2022. Vice President Dhankhar will be visiting Qatar on November 20-21 at the invitation of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar.
The 60,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor will host the opening ceremony on 20 November 2022 just before the first match between host Qatar and Ecuador.
According to the MEA, besides attending the inaugural ceremony of the football World Cup, the vice president will also interact with members of the Indian community during his visit.

- It is the second world cup to be held in Asia after the 2002 World cup which was jointly hosted by Japan and South Korea.
- A total of 32 teams will participate in the world cup.
- La'eeb is the official mascot of the Cup. It is inspired by the keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men.
- The name of the football to be used during the world cup is Al Rihla. Al Rihla means “Journey” in Arabic.
- It has been made by the German multinational company Adidas.
- It is the 14th successive time that a ball made by Adidas will be used in the FIFA world cup.
- Al-Rihla is the first FIFA World cup ball to be made exclusively with water based inks and glues.

- It is an international men’s senior football championship organised by FIFA and it is held every four years. No world cup was held in 1942 and 1946 due to the Second World War.
- The first world cup was held in 1930 and the 21st world cup was held in Russia.
- The 2026 Men’s world cup will be jointly hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
- The current champion is France.
- Brazil is the most successful team in the world having won it 5 times. Italy and Germany have won it 4 times each.

7. BCCI dissolves 4-member national selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has disbanded the selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma on November 19, 2022 after India's dismal performance in Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup.

Apart from chief selector Chetan Sharma, the other members of the selection committee were Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh and Devashish Mohanty.
The BCCI invited fresh applications for national selectors for the senior men's team and the last date for submission of applications is November 28.
