1. Western Air Command of IAF wins Air Force Lawn Tennis Championship

Western Air Command, Indian Air Force (IAF) won the Air Force Lawn Tennis Championship 2022-23 held at Head Quarter MC, Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur on 21 October.
Important facts
The final match of the team championship was played between Western Air Command and Training Command in which Western Air Command emerged as the winner.
The Open Singles final was played between Corporal Pradeep of Training Command and Sergeant Manolin of Western Air Command and Corporal Pradeep emerged as the winner.
The championship was inaugurated by Air Marshal Vibhas Pandey, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Headquarters MC on 17 October 2022.
A total of eight teams comprising 48 players from seven commands of the Indian Air Force participated in the championship.
The championship was held in two events, the team championship and the open singles.
Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Air Marshal Vibhas Pandey was the chief guest during the closing ceremony of the championship on 21 October 2022.
2. Fifth Khelo India Youth Games 2022 to be held in Madhya Pradesh

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur announced on 20 October 2022 that the fifth Khelo India Youth Games-2023 will be held in Madhya Pradesh.
Important facts
It will be held in eight different cities in the state.
The eight host cities named are Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Maheshwar, Mandla and Balaghat.
The games will be hosted from 31st January 2023 to 11th February 2023.
More than 8 thousand 500 athletes and sportspersons are expected to participate in this sporting event.
The fourth Khelo India Youth Games was organised from June 4 to 13 at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula (Haryana), while some of its matches were also played in Chandigarh.

4. Sajan Bhanwala becomes the first Indian wrestler to win a Greco Roman medal at the U-23 World Wrestling Championships

Sajan Bhanwala won the first medal for India at the U-23 World Wrestling Championships 2022 being held in Pontevedra, Spain from 17 -23 October 2022. Wrestler who are below 23 years of age participate in the championship.
Sajan Bhanwala won the bronze medal in the Greco Roman 77kg category by defeating Ukraine’s Dmytro Vasetskyi in a closely-fought match on 19 October 2022.
It is for the first time that India has won a medal in the Greco Roman event at the U23 Wrestling World Championship.
Denial of Visa to Indian wrestler
India is competing with a depleted squad at the ongoing U-23 World Wrestling Championship 2022 in Pontevedra after host country Spain denied visas to 21 of the 30 wrestlers chosen to represent India at the meet. According to the Spanish embassy in Delhi these wrestlers were likely to illegally overstay in Spain.
5. BCCI elects Roger Binny as the new President; to start women IPL

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unanimously elected former Indian all-rounder Roger Binny as the 36th President of the BCCI at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI which was held in Mumbai on 18 October 2022. The BCCI also decided to start the women's IPL and not to participate in the Asia cricket cup to be held in Pakistan in 2023.
Roger Binny who represented Karnataka and India, played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India and was also a National selector. He will replace Saurav Ganguly whose three-year tenure as the board chief came to an end.
Other Office Bearers of BCCI
All the other office bearers of the BCCI were also elected unanimously including;
- Jay Shah as Secretary ,
- Rajeev Shukla as Vice-President.
- Ashish Shelar as Treasurer and
- Devajit Saikia as Joint Secretary.
- Arun Dhumal was elected as the new Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman. He will replace Brijesh Patel.
Women's IPL approved
The General Body also approved the inaugural Women's IPL which will consist of five teams and will be held in March 2023 just after the Women's T20 World Cup ends in South Africa on February 26.
India will not tour Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023.
The BCCI secretary Jay Shah who is also the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced that India will not be going to Pakistan next year to participate in the Asia cup.
India have not toured Pakistan since 2006 and have not played bilateral cricket against them since 2012 because of strained relations between the governments of the two countries. Their contests have taken place only at ICC and Asian events.

Jyothi Yaraji set a new record by completing the women's 100m hurdles in less than 13 seconds at the National Open Athletics Championships in Bengaluru on October 17, 2022.

Jyoti has become the first Indian female athlete to complete the 100m hurdles in less than 13 seconds.
Jyoti, representing the Railways, created a new national record by completing the race in 12.82 seconds.
Then the wind gauge was 0.9 metres per second so that she would not lose her national record for the second time.
She had completed the same event in the National Games in Gujarat in 12.79 seconds but then the wind gauge was high and her time was not recorded in the national record.
She had already achieved the meet mark in the heat with a time of 13.18s, breaking the record of 13.38s set by Anuradha Biswal in Chennai 20 years ago.
Jyothi Yaraji was born on August 28, 1999 in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh.
He made his international debut on 10 May 2022 at the Cyprus International Athletics Meet in Limassol.

8. Qatar to host the 18th AFC Asian Cup 2023 in place of China

The Asian Football Confederation executive committee in its meeting on 17 October 2022 has confirmed that Qatar will host the 18th Asian Cup 2023 in place of the tournament's original hosts, China. Earlier this year China expressed its inability to host the Asian Cup due to its strict Zero covid policy which has seen total lockdown in parts of China.
The continental championships were awarded to China in 2019 and were scheduled to take place in 10 Chinese cities from June 16 -July 16 next year.
Qatar beat Indonesia and South Korea to win the right to host the 2023 Asian football cup.
Qatar is also holding the FIFA men’s football world cup 2022 to be played in the month of November -December 2022.
Qatar are the reigning AFC Asian Cup champions and will be hosting the continent's most prestigious men's tournament for the third time after staging the 1988 and 2011 editions.
India, Saudi Arabia shortlisted as potential host for AFC Asian Cup 2027
At the meeting, All India Football Federation and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation were shortlisted as the potential host of the 2027 AFC Asian cup.
The final decision will be taken in the next meeting of the executive council of the AFC to be held in February 2023.

The first AFC Asian cup was held in 1956 in Hong Kong. It is held every four years.
After the 2004 Asian cup the AFC decided to hold the next Asian cup in 2007.
The 17th Asian Cup was held in UAE in 2019 and it was won by Qatar.

9. Maharashtra wins men and women’s team won the 2nd Goalball National Championship

Maharashtra’s men and women’s team won the 2nd Goalball National Championship held at Maharishi Dayanand University Rohtak, Haryana. In both the men’s and women’s final played at Rohtak on 16 October 2022, the Maharashtra team defeated the Uttarakhand men and women’s team.
The 3 day (14-16 October) 2nd Goalball National championship 2022 was organised by the Goalball federation of India in Rohtak and saw the participation of 10 teams .
Goalball is a Paralympic sport which is played by blind sportspeople.
10. Harshada Garud sole Indian medal winner at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022

Junior world champion Harshada Garud was India’s sole medallist among the 12-member Indian contingent at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022 tournament which concluded on 16 October 2022 at Manama, Bahrain.
She won the bronze medals in the snatch section and the overall section of the women’s 45kg category. This was Harshada Garud’s first international medal at the senior level.
The Asian Weightlifting Championships was organized by the Asian Weightlifting Federation at Manama, Bahrain from 6 to 16 October 2022.
