  • Laxmibai Memorial Awards 2022 were presented to three eminent women achievers from different fields on the occasion.

  • The awardees are Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar, Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences; International Bonsai expert Dr. Prajakta Kale; and Dr. Bhagyashree Patil, Chairman and Executive Director, Dr. D.Y. Patil Abhimat University, Pimpri.

  • About Laxmibai Dagdusheth Halwai Datta Mandir

  • It is a Hindu temple established by Laxmibai Dagdusheth, wife of Dagdusheth Gadve.

  • She was originally a Lingayat trader from Karnataka.

  • After settling in Pune and setting up a business of sweet and savoury snacks, the family came to be known as Dagdusheth Halwai.

  • Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai and his wife Lakshmi Bai played an important role during the freedom struggle and created a tradition of social service.

  • This temple was established on 4 July 1904 and is dedicated to Sri Dattatreya.

  • In Maharashtra, Dattatreya is considered to be an avatar of the three Hindu Gods, Trimurti—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. 

  • It is believed that the deities are especially awakened in this temple, making it a popular spot among devotees.

  • The temple is located in Budhwar Peth near Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple.

  • In 2017, Laxmibai Dagdusheth Halwai Datta Temple became the first temple in Pune to be completely solar powered.

  • He laid foundation stones for six major infrastructure projects worth 28,540 crore rupees.

  • He inaugurated the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, which is being fully funded by the Central Government.

  • Subramanya Bharathi Chair on Tamil Studies at Banaras Hindu University was announced recently.

  • PM inaugurated phase 1 of Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway. 

  • He said the proposed Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway would connect the two major centres to boost the economy.

  • He also inaugurated a four-lane, double decker, elevated road connecting Chennai Port to Maduravoyal.

  • This will make Chennai port more efficient and decongest the city.

  • Five railway stations in the state are being redeveloped.

3. Rajasthan Government approved new guidelines for the implementation of Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved new guidelines for the implementation of Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme.

  • New guidelines

  • As per the new guidelines, a person in the age group of 18 to 60 years residing in the local body area will be registered on the basis of Jan Aadhaar card.

  • Jan Aadhaar card will be issued by the state government and will be the primary eligibility document for enrollment under the scheme.

  • Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme

  • This scheme is an urban employment scheme announced by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the state budget 2022-23 of Rajasthan.

  • Under this scheme, people living in urban areas will be provided employment for at least 100 days per year.

  • It has been prepared on the lines of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).

  • The government will spend Rs 800 crore every year on this ambitious scheme.

  • To get the work allowed under this scheme, the work will be approved and executed through committees at the state / district / body level.

4. Uttarakhand, BPCL Sign Agreement for Renewable Energy Development

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Uttarakhand and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for the development of renewable energy.

  • On behalf of the Uttarakhand Government, Energy Secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram and BPCL's Chief General Manager, Renewable Energy Shaily Abraham and Executive Director Amit Garg signed.

  • This MoU has been done for the development of renovation and other projects in the state and for 100% financial investment.

  • After this agreement, progress will be made in the field of renewable energy, especially solar energy in the state.

5. President inaugurate National Conference of women legislators in Thiruvananthapuram

  • Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan presided over the inaugural session at the Kerala Legislative Assembly complex.

  • This is the first national conference of its kind in the country.

The 'Sambhav' portal was launched by AK Sharma, Energy Minister of Uttar Pradesh Government to hear the complaints of electricity consumers.

  • This portal has been prepared for continuous, efficient and effective monitoring of schemes, public grievances, departmental issues, projects and programs of the Urban Development and Energy Department.

  • Sambhav Portal is a multi-modal platform, which will ensure speedy redressal and registration of public related problems. Through this the accountability of officers and employees will also be fixed.

  • Sambhav stands for "Systemic Administration Mechanism for Bringing Happiness and Value".

  • The portal will take up complaints and issues from various sources, including pending cases and complaints under the Chief Minister's Public Hearing / Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) system.

The fourth edition of the State Level Shirui Lily Festival 2022 was held in Manipur from May 25 to 28.

  • This annual festival is organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur to create awareness about the Shirui Lily flower.

  • The four-day festival was inaugurated by Manipur Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in Shirui village of Ukhrul district.

  • The festival is held around April and May as it is the blooming season of Shirui Lily.

  • The four-day festival will host a variety of activities ranging from Manipur's rich cultural performances, sports, musical extravaganzas and entertainment, especially of the Tangkhul Naga community.

  • During this, Shirui Lily Marathon is also being organised under the theme 'Say No to Drugs' in line with the Drugs Campaign of Manipur State Government.

  • It is the state flower of Manipur.

  • Its scientific name is Lilium mackliniae.

  • Shirui Lily is a species of ground lily found only around the Shirui Hills of Manipur. Tangkhul Naga tribe resides in this area.

  • This flower was discovered in Manipur in 1946 by the English scientist Frank Kingdon-Ward.

  • This flower is found only in Ukhrul district of Manipur and cannot be planted anywhere in the world.

The Government of India has appointed Vinay Kumar Saxena as the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi after the resignation of Anil Baijal.

  • Vinay Kumar Saxena was working as the chairman of National Khadi Development and Village Industries Commission before this appointment.

  • As the Chairman of KVIC, he initiated many innovative schemes and products like 'Honey Mission', 'Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana', 'Empowerment of Leather Artisans' which include Khadi Prakrit Paints, Project REHAB, Khadi Cloth Shoes and Plastics. Including assorted handmade paper, etc.

  • In March 2021, the Government of India appointed him as one of the members of the National Committee to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India's independence.

9. Staff Selection Commission released notification for the first ever recruitment process for Ladakh

The Staff Selection Commission has released the notification for the first time recruitment process for the Union Territory of Ladakh.

  • In its first recruitment process through SSC, the administration will recruit 797 different non-gazetted posts for the Union Territory of Ladakh.

  • The applications for the recruitment were invited from May 23 and the last date would be June 13 this year.

  • Applicants should be citizens of India and should be residents of the Union Territory of Ladakh.

  • The exam will be conducted in August.

  • The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils of both Leh and Kargil are providing coaching and training for the candidates in the respective districts.
