1. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma unveils 131st Durand Cup trophy

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam, unveiled the three Durand Cup trophies in a glittering ceremony at Guwahati on 21st July.

Three trophies of the 134-year-old Durand Cup, Asia's oldest football tournament, were unveiled.
The tournament will be held for the first time in Assam's Guwahati from August 17 to September 4.
As part of the trophy tour involving five cities, Guwahati, the venue of 10 Group D games, was chosen as the first stop.
It will see participation of 20 teams from across the country including 11 ISL teams.
The matches of the tournament will be held at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.
Apart from Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal and Kishor Bharati Kridangan in Kolkata in West Bengal and Naihati Stadium in North 24-Parganas district will host the matches.
The three trophies, the Durand Cup (a rolling trophy and the original prize), the Shimla Trophy (a rolling trophy and first given by the residents of Shimla in 1904) and the President’s Cup (for permanent keep and first presented by Dr Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President in 1956) are on a five-city tour.
It was flagged off from Kolkata on July 19, 2022 and will be the first time the host will leave for Imphal in Manipur after being in Guwahati for two days.
131st Durand Cup
There will be a total of 47 games in this tournament, with both Guwahati and Imphal hosting 10-games of group C and group D each.
All the seven knockout games will be held at three venues in West Bengal.
The inaugural pool matches will begin from 16 August at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Kreerangan (VYBK) Stadium in Kolkata.
The matches will be held on August 17 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati and on August 18 at the Khuman Lampakh Stadium in Imphal.
The tournament will culminate with the Grand Finale to be held at VYBK on 18 September 2022.
About Durand Cup
The tournament was started in 1888 under the leadership of Sir Henry Durand, a renowned Indian civil servant and Foreign Secretary of India.
It was first held in Shimla.
The most successful teams are East Bengal and Mohun Bagan with 16 wins each.
BSF comes in third place with 7 wins.
2. Singapore Open : PV Sindhu wins first Super 500 title

India's PV Sindhu defeated China's Wang Zhiyi in the women's singles final to clinch the Singapore Open Badminton Super 500 tournament title.
Important facts
Sindhu defeated Saina Kawakami of Japan in the semi-finals to secure her place in the final.
This is Sindhu's third title of the current season. He won two Super 300 tournaments, the Syed Modi International and the Swiss Open.
PV Sindhu won her second Asian bronze medal at the Asia Badminton Championship 2022 in Manila on April 30, 2022.
Sindhu has won a gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the World Championships apart from a silver and bronze medal in the Olympics.

The Singapore Open is a badminton competition held annually in Singapore since 1929.
In 2023, the tournament will be upgraded to a Super 750 event.
The 2022 Singapore Badminton Open was held from 12 to 17 July 2022 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
In 2007, the Singapore Open became part of the BWF Super Series event.
3. ISSF World Cup : Arjun Babuta strikes gold in 10m air rifle

Recently Arjun Babuta of India has won his first gold medal in International Shooting Sports Federation-ISSF World Cup.
Important facts
He defeated Lukas Kozenisky of America 17-9 in the final held in Changwon, South Korea.
Arjun secured the first position in the ranking round with a score of 261.1, while Lucas finished second with a score of 260.4.
Israel's Sergei Richter won the bronze medal and India's Partha Makhija finished fourth.
Arjun Babuta has won this gold medal in the men's 10m air rifle event of the ISSF World Cup.
India topped the medal tally with four gold, two silver and one bronze in the ISSF World Cup 2022, organised by the International Shooting Sports Federation in Cairo.
Norway finished second in the table with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
France finished third with three golds.
4. Jonny Bairstow, Marizanne Kapp win ICC Player of the Month award for June

England batsman Jonny Bairstow was awarded the Men's Player of the Month by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for June 2022.
Important facts
Bairstow beat compatriot Joe Root and New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell to win the award.
Bairstow had scored centuries in both the innings of the fifth Test against India and led England to victory. Apart from this, he also performed brilliantly in the Test series against New Zealand.
In Women's Cricket, South Africa's Marizanne Cap has been selected for the ICC Player of the Month for the month of June.
Marizanne Cap became the second ICC female player from South Africa to receive this award after Lizelle Lee.

5. Gujarat will host the 36th National Games in September, 2022

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that the 36th National Games will be held in Gujarat for the first time from 27 September to 10 October.
Important facts
The prestigious event is being organised after a gap of seven years, last held in Kerala in 2015.
Competitions will be held in six cities of the state namely Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
Around 7000 players from across the country will participate in 36 sports.
Indoor and outdoor events like Athletics, Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Judo, Kushmi, Kabaddi and Kho-Kho etc. will be organised.
The 36th National Games were to be held in Goa in May 2020 but were postponed indefinitely due to the spread of COVID-19.

8. Sports Ministry launches online portal for schemes, awards for sportspersons

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur launched an online portal for schemes, awards for sportspersons on 8th July.
Important facts
The ministry launched an online portal for schemes of the sports department, website of National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) and revised scheme of cash rewards, national welfare and pension for sportspersons.
Active sports persons can now apply online on the sports department's portal while corporates, PSUs and individuals can contribute to the NSDF fund on its new website.
This will help in bringing transparency and accountability, besides giving a boost to the 'Digital India Mission' of the government.
This will help the players to apply online and get their money in limited time.
National Sports Development Fund (NSDF)
Established in 1998 under the Charitable Endowments Act, 1890
Its purpose is to provide speed and flexibility in assisting sports.
The fund helps sportspersons achieve excellence by providing them technical as well as opportunities to be trained by coaches of international repute.
It provides financial assistance for development of infrastructure and other activities to promote sports.
The fund is managed by a council constituted by the central government.

9. Ranji Trophy 2021-22: Madhya Pradesh became champion after defeating Mumbai in the final

10. India's women's wrestling team has won the Under-17 Asian Championship title

India's women's wrestling team has won the Under-17 Asian Championship title in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
India topped with 235 points with eight gold, one silver and one bronze medals.
Japan finished second with 143 points and Mongolia third with 138 points.
Women's wrestling's bouts were organised in 5 weight categories.
Ritika won the gold medal in 43 kg, Ahilya Sinde in 49 kg, Shiksha in 57 kg, Priya in 73 kg and Pulkit in 65 kg.
Apart from this, competitions were also held in three weight categories of freestyle and Parvinder Singh bagged gold in 80 kg while Narendra won silver in 71 kg.
