1. Senior IAS officer Ajay Bhadoo appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner

The Appointment committee of the Union Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 October 2022, has approved the appointment of Ajay Bhadoo as the Deputy Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India.
Ajay Bhadoo is a 1999-batch Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) officer of the Gujarat cadre. He has been appointed as the deputy election commissioner until July 24, 2024 or till further order, whichever is earlier.
Election Commission of India
It is a constitutional body which was set up on 25 January 1950, under article 324 of the constitution.
It is the main body which conducts election of the President, Vice-President, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and the State Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.
It does not conduct elections of the Panchayats and the municipalities.
The Election Commission of India consists of the Chief Election Commissioner and two other members.

2. Suzlon Energy founder Tulsi Tanti passes away

Tulsi Tanti, the founder chairman and managing director of Suzlon Energy and a renowned expert on renewable energy, died due to cardiac arrest on 1 October.
Important facts
64-year-old Tanti, who was also the president of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association, suffered a cardiac arrest while travelling from Ahmedabad to Pune.
He is survived by his daughter Nidhi and son Pranav.
He was widely known as the visionary who pioneered the renewable revolution in India.
He founded the Wind Energy Company at a time when international companies dominated the market.
He was also known as the 'Wind Man' of India.
He led the wind power revolution in India with the founding of Suzlon Energy in 1995.
Under his guidance, Suzlan Energy established its presence in European markets apart from India.
The company also has R&D centers in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
Under his guidance, Suzlon Energy has become the largest wind power company in the country with a cumulative installed capacity of 19.4 gigawatts (GW), 33 per cent market share in India and presence in 17 countries.
Suzlon Energy has more than 2 GW of installed capacity in the US, its second largest market.
Before entering wind power, Tanti owned a clothing business, which he sold in 2001.
3. Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri birth anniversary

The nation is celebrating the 153rd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October 2022. 2nd October is also the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri who served as the second Prime Minister of India.
Important facts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.
He urged everyone to purchase khadi and handicrafts products as a tribute to Gandhi.
The Prime Minister also shared some glimpses from his gallery at the 'Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya' in Delhi, which depicts Shastri's life journey and achievements.
About Mahatma Gandhi
Birth - 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar (Gujarat)
Brief Introduction - Lawyer, politician, social activist and writer who became the leader of the nationalist movement against the British rule of India.
In South Africa (1893–1915), he successfully fought racist rule with a new method of mass movement, which he called satyagraha.
He returned to India from South Africa on 9 January 1915.
The Champaran Satyagraha of 1917 was the first Satyagraha movement led by Gandhi in India.
In 1918, he went to Ahmedabad to organize a Satyagraha movement among cotton mill workers.
In 1919, he decided to launch a nationwide satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act (1919).
The Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place on April 13, 1919. Seeing the spread of violence, he called off the movement (April 18, 1919).
The non-cooperation movement was adopted in the Congress session in Nagpur in December 1920.
He was shot dead by Nathuram Godse on 30 January 1948.
His Social Work
He worked for the upliftment of the untouchables and gave them a new name 'Harijan' which means child of God.
His symbol of self-reliance, the spinning wheel, became a popular symbol of the Indian independence movement.
He was instrumental in preventing Hindu-Muslim riots as tensions escalated before and during the country's partition.

About Lal Bahadur Shastri
He was born on October 2, 1904 in Mughalsarai, a small railway town seven miles from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
He was the second Prime Minister (1964-66) of India and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress.
He led several insurgent campaigns in the Civil Disobedience Movement and spent a total of seven years in British prisons.
He was a minister in various departments in the Union Cabinet from 1951 to 1956.
He resigned from the post of Railway Minister, taking responsibility for a railway accident in which many people lost their lives.
He was the first person to be awarded the Bharat Ratna (1966) posthumously.
He led the country during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. He gave the slogan "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan".
4. Central government appoints Sujoy Lal Thaosen as head of CRPF and Anish Dayal Singh as ITBP head

The Union Ministry of Personnel on 1 October 2022 ,announced the appointment of Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Sujoy Lal Thaosen and Anish Dayal Singh as the new Director Generals of the CRPF and ITBP respectively. The notification was issued by the ministry after the Cabinet Committee on Appointment headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved their names.
Sujoy Lal Thaosen is a 1988 batch officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently working as the Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and is holding the additional charge of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
Anish Dayal Singh is a 1988-batch officer of Manipur cadre and is currently serving as a special director in the Intelligence Bureau.
Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF)
There are seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in India. They are under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. These are ;

5. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal take charges of office

Senior IAS officer Sunil Barthwal assumed charge as the Commerce Secretary on 30 September 2022. Sunil Barthwal, is a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre and was previously the Labour and Employment secretary.
Sunil Barthwal replaced B.V.R Subrahmanyam who has retired. B.V.R Subrahmanyam has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation(ITPO).

6. Avinash Pandey elected President of the 1AA Indian chapter

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ABP network, Avinash Pandey was elected as the President of the India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) for 2022-23 at its annual general meeting.
Abhishek Karnani, director, Free Press Journal Group, was elected as Vice President.
The IAA comprises corporate members, organisational members, and educational affiliates. It has 56 chapters with individual members and young professionals from 76 countries including the top 10 economies in the world.
IAA is an over 80 years’ old organization and is headquartered in New York, United States of America.
7. Amitabh Kant led the Indian delegation at the G-20 Sherpa meeting in Indonesia

The Indian delegation led by Indian G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant participated in the third G20 Sherpa meeting organised by Indonesia at Yogyakarta, from 26th to 29th of September 2022.
Amitabh Kant was appointed as India’s G20 Sherpa by the Government in June 2022 in place of the Union Commerce and Industry minister Piyush Goel.
They met in Yogyakarta to discuss the agenda of the forthcoming G20 summit meeting to be held in Bali, Indonesia in November 2022.
Role of the Sherpa’s
The G20 process is led by the Sherpa’s of member countries, who are personal emissaries of the Leaders. The Sherpa’s oversee negotiations over the course of the year, discussing agenda items for the Summit and coordinating the substantive work of the G20.
Group of 20 or G-20 is a multilateral organisation of 19 countries and the European Union was set up in 1999. India has been a member of the G20 since its inception in 1999. India will be holding the G20 Presidency from 1 December 2022 and will convene the G20 Leaders’ Summit in 2023 for the first time..
8. Dr Madhav Harda selected for 32nd Bihari Puraskaar 2022

Noted Hindi writer Dr Madhav Harda has been selected for the 32nd Bihari Puraskar 2022 for his literary criticism book ‘Pachrang Chola Pahar Sakhi Ri’.
This was announced by the K K Birla Foundation on 29 September 2022. Dr Madhav Harda's book ‘Pachrang Chola Pahar Sakhi Ri’ focuses on the life of medieval devotee poet Meera.
Bihari Puraskar
- The Bihari Puraskar is one of the three literary awards instituted by the K K Birla foundation in 1991. The award is given every year for an outstanding work published in the last 10 years by a Rajasthani author in Hindi or Rajasthani.
- It carries a cash prize of ₹2.5 lakh, a plaque and a citation.
- The first Bihari Puraskar was in 1991, to the famous poet Jaisingh Neeraj for his poetry compilation 'Dhani Ka Aadmi'.
- The 31st Bihari Puraskar was awarded to Madhu Kankariya for her 2018 novel ‘Hum Yahan The’.
K.K. Birla Prize
K.K.Birla foundation was established by Krishna Kumar Birla in 1991. It aims to promote literature, especially Hindi literature. Every year it gives literature award for works published in the last ten years

Vyas Samman
- It is given for outstanding literary work in Hindi authored by an Indian citizen and published in the previous 10 years.
- It carries a cash prize of ₹4 lakh.
- The first person to get the award was Ram Vilas Sharma for his work “Bharat ke Pracheen bhasha parivar aur Hindi.
- The 31 Vyas Samman 2021 was awarded to Asgar Wajahat for his play Mahabali.”
Saraswati Samman
- Saraswati Samman is given every year to an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language by an Indian citizen and published within the last 10 years.
- It carries a citation, a plaque, and a cash prize of ₹15 lakhs
- First person to get the award was Harivansh Rai Bachchan in 1991 for his four volume autobiography, Kya Bhooloon Kya Yaad Karoon, Needa Ka Nirman Phir, Basere Se Door and Dashdwar se Sopan Tak.
- The 31st awardee was Ramdarash Mishra for his collection of Hindi poems ‘Mein to Yahan Hun’.
9. Jio Chairman Akash Ambani included in the Time's 100 emerging leaders' list

10. R Venkataramani appointed as 15th Attorney General of India

The Union government has appointed senior advocate R Venkataramani as the 15th Attorney General of India for a period of three years.
Venkataramani will succeed 91-year-old K K Venugopal, whose term will end on September 30.
The development comes days after senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi declined to become India's Attorney General.
The first Attorney General of India was MC Setalvad (1950-1963).

Article 76 of the Indian constitution provides for appointment of Attorney general of India by the President of India.
Qualification
The person who is appointed for the post of Attorney general shall have the same qualification as required to become the Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
Term of Office
He holds office at the pleasure of the President of India. It means he can be dismissed any time by the President.
Functions
He is the first law officer of the Government of India.
He gives legal advice to the President of India.
He can appear in any court of India on behalf of the government of India.
He is the only person apart from a minister who can participate in the proceedings of any house of the Parliament without being its member. However he cannot vote in the Parliament.
