India defeated Poland 6-4 to clinch the title of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Hockey 5-S Championship held for the first time.
The tournament was held in Lausanne, Switzerland.
In this five-team tournament, India finished first after league matches with 10 points.
The tournament is part of the International Hockey Federation (FIH)'s campaign to popularise hockey through a shorter format.
About Hockey 5-S Championship
Hockey 5-S is a newer and shorter version of hockey played with high speed and high skill.
In this match of a total 20 minutes, there are five players in both the teams.
The playing field for this shorter format is half the size of a regular field.
According to FIH rules, the maximum size for a Hockey 5-S turf will be 55 X 42 m, while the minimum size will be 40 X 28 m.

In the men's section, Australia, Belgium and India finished first, second and third respectively.
In the women's category, Netherlands, Argentina and Australia finished first, second and third respectively.
The Indian women's team finished sixth in the rankings.

In the World Ranking 2022 released by the International Hockey Federation, the Indian men's hockey team got the fourth place while the Indian women's hockey team got the sixth place.
Men's team ranking
In the men's section, the team of Australia (2842.258) topped.
The team of Belgium (2764.735) got the second position and Netherlands (2465.707) got the third position by defeating India (2366.990).
Germany (2308.156) ranked fifth in this ranking.
England (2171.354) and Argentina (2147.179) finished sixth and seventh respectively.

Gujarat Titans achieved the distinction of becoming the champions in their debut season of IPL.

4. Sergio Perez Becomes First Mexican Driver to Win Monaco Grand Prix

Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Pérez (Mexican) has won the Formula 1 (F1) Grand Prix (GP) de Monaco 2022 title held at Circuit de Monaco, Europe.
The event took place from May 27 to May 29, 2022.
With this victory, Sergio Pérez became the first Mexican to win the Monaco Grand Prix and the first North American since Gilles Villeneuve in 1981.
It was the third victory of Sergio Pérez's career, after which he became the most successful Mexican F1 driver, surpassing Pedro Rodriguez.
Ferrari Racing driver Carlos Sainz Jr. (Spanish) finished second in the competition, and third place went to Belgian-Dutch racing driver Max Verstappen, who drove for Red Bull Racing.

5. The 12th edition of the Women's World Boxing Championship

The 12th edition of the Women's World Boxing Championship (WWBC) was organised by the International Boxing Association (IBA) at Basaksehir Youth and Sports Facility, Istanbul, Turkey.
310 boxers from 73 countries participated in the event.
Belarusian and Russian boxers were not allowed to participate in the competition.
India won a total of 3 medals in this event for the first time in the last four years with one gold and two bronze.
India's boxer Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the flyweight (52kg) division against Thailand's Jitpong Jutamas with a score of 5-0. With this win, she became the fifth Indian female boxer to win a world championship.
The other four Indian boxers to win the world title include Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, Lekh Casey.
The other two Indian women boxers Manisha Maun won bronze medals in 57kg and Parveen Hooda in 63kg category.

6. Odisha CM launches Olympic Values Education Programme

International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s Olympic Value Education Program (OVEP) was launched by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in association with Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust (ABFT).
With the aim of making children active, healthy and responsible citizens, the curriculum related to the Olympics was included in the school education system.
The initial target of the program is to reach 32,000 children enrolled in 90 schools in the cities of Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. After this it will be spread to about 70 lakh school children of the state.
Odisha's Department of School and Mass Education and Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust have jointly prepared this program included in the school curriculum.

7. Haryana hockey team won the Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship 2022
Haryana hockey team won the Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship 2022 by defeating Jharkhand hockey team 2-0 in the final.
The 12th National Sub Junior Women's Hockey Championship 2022 was organised in Imphal, Manipur from May 11-22.
During the final match, Riya scored one goal each in the 13th minute and Sejal in the 39th minute to help Haryana's hockey team win.
In the competition, Uttar Pradesh defeated Madhya Pradesh 3-0 to finish third in the tournament.
Uttar Pradesh got the third position in this competition for the second time in a row.
8. Odisha won the National Senior Women's Hockey Championship
On May 17, 2022, Hockey Association Odisha won the title by defeating Karnataka 2-0 in the final match of the 12th Hockey India Senior Women's National Championship played at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.

In the final match played in the tournament, Poonam Barla scored 34th for Odisha and Ashim Kanchan Barla scored in 59th minute to make Odisha victorious.
In the third place match, Jharkhand beat Haryana 3-2. Deepti Toppo, Albela Rani Toppo and Beton Dungdung scored for Jharkhand. Amandeep Kaur and Bharti Saroha scored for Haryana.
The 12th Hockey India Senior Women's National Championship was organised from May 6 to 17, 2022 at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, Bhopal, in which players from about 27 states participated.
