1. Legendary artist Ram Chandra Manjhi passes away

In Bihar, the doyen of Bhojpuri folk theatre art “Launda Naach” and legendary artist Padma Shri Ram Chandra Manjhi passed away on 7 September.
IMPORTANT FACTS -
- 97-year-old Manjhi breathed his last at a hospital in Patna. He is called the Shakespeare of Bhojpuri.
He was battling heart blockage and infection.
Ramchandra Manjhi was a resident of Saran district and his last time was spent in poverty.
Ramchandra Manjhi joined the drama troupe of famous Bhojpuri artist Bhikhari Thakur at the age of 10.
He was a member of Bhikhari Thakur's dance troupe for 30 years.
He gave international recognition to Launda Naach.
A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Manjhi was also a coveted Padma Shri awardee in the field of art.
President Ram Nath Kovind honoured him last year.
Launda Naach is a major Bhojpuri folk art form of Bihar consisting of song, dance, comedy, satire, parody and theatre.
In this art, men disguise themselves as women by wearing saris, blouses, long haired wigs during the performance.

- He said, the prime objective of the government is to reduce import dependence from 80% to below 30% in next 10 years and ensure self-reliance quotient of 80% in Med-Tech through Make in India.

President Droupadi Murmu will virtually launch the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on 9th September 2022 to reinvigorate the mission of TB elimination from the country by 2025.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the call to end TB in the country five years ahead of the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) target of 2030 at the Delhi End TB Summit in March 2018.
- During the event, President Murmu will also launch the Ni-kshay Mitra initiative, a portal to provide a platform for donors to provide various forms of support to those undergoing TB treatment.

4. Government set up Kirit Parikh committee to review the gas pricing formula to tame inflation

The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on 6 September 2022, has set up a committee to review the pricing formula for locally produced gas to ensure a "fair price to the end consumer".

Chairman of the committee :
- The committee will be headed by former planning commission member Kirit Parikh.
- It will include members from the fertiliser ministry, as well as gas producers and buyers.
Reason for setting up of the committee :
- The committee will suggest pricing of locally produced natural gas so as to lower inflation in the country and boost the use of cleaner fuel.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to raise the share of gas in India's energy mix to 15% by 2030 from 6.2%, helping it progress towards meeting a 2070 net zero carbon-emission goal.

Fixing of natural gas price in India :
- In 2014 the government linked the local gas price to a formula tied to global benchmarks, including Henry Hub, Alberta gas, NBP and Russian gas.
- In 2016 the government began fixing the maximum prices of gas produced from deep water and allowed marketing freedom to the producer of these gasses.
- ONGC and Reliance are the major producers of deep water natural gas in India.
- The prices of natural gases are now at a record high in India and abroad, and are expected to rise further due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This is expected to increase inflation further in India.

5. Indian-origin Suella Braverman appointed Britain's new Home Secretary

- Suella Braverman has been an aide to former Indian-origin Home Secretary Priti Patel.
She has served as the Attorney General in the Boris Johnson-led government.

6. Harmanpreet Singh nominated for FIH Player of the Year Award -2021-22

Indian hockey player Harmanpreet Singh has been selected among the five players nominated for the Men's Player of the Year award for the 'FIH Hockey Stars Awards 2021-22' on 6 September.

- PR Sreejesh and Savita Poonia were nominated for the best men's and women's goalkeepers respectively.
Indian team vice-captain Harmanpreet was named along with Arthur de Sloover and Tom Boon (Belgium), Niklas Wellen (Germany) and Thierry Brinkman (Netherlands) for the FIH Men's Player of the Year award.
There is no Indian in the list of players nominated for the FIH Women's Player of the Year award.

10. Indian Army Chief Manoj Pande conferred honorary rank of Nepal Army General

Indian Army chief General Manoj Pande was conferred the title of Honorary General of the Nepali Army by Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari in Kathmandu on 5 September.
IMPORTANT FACTS -
General Pandey was honoured during his visit to the Himalayan countries at a special ceremony at the President's official residence 'Sheetal Niwas' in the Nepalese capital.
He was also presented with a sword and scroll during the official function.
The practice follows a seven-decade-old tradition of conferring honorary titles on the army chiefs of both countries.
Commander-in-Chief General KM Cariappa was the first Indian Army Chief to be conferred with this title in the year 1950.
In November 2021, the Chief of the Nepalese Army, General Prabhu Ram Sharma was also made an Honorary General of the Indian Army by President Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony in New Delhi.
On behalf of the Government of India, General Manoj Pandey provided training equipment to the Nepalese Army along with light vehicles which will help in enhancing the capability of the Nepalese Army personnel.
General Manoj Pandey arrived in Kathmandu on 4 September for a five-day official visit to Nepal.
