'EV as a Service’ Programme
Why in news?
- Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs,Shri Manohar Lal unveiled Convergence Energy Services Limited’s (CESL) ‘EV as a Service’ program at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi.
Aim of Programme:
- To accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across central and state government departments, CPSEs, and other institutions.
Significance:
- The program is set to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles within the government, with a goal to deploy 5,000 electric cars over the next two years.
- By offering a flexible procurement model, ‘EV as a Service’ allows government offices to select electric vehicles that best meet their specific operational needs, supporting both India’s green energy goals and the target of net zero emissions by 2070.
- CESL’s initiatives, including the deployment of nearly 2,000 electric cars and plans for approximately 17,000 electric buses, are integral to reducing carbon emissions and advancing energy security in India.

- The event included an EV Exhibition and rally, showcasing over 100 electric vehicles across different categories, such as e-bicycles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, e-tractors, e-charging vans, and e-cargo pickups.
