The Indian Standards Institute was established in 1947 with the objective of harmonious development of standardization activities in India.
The Indian Standards Institute has been transformed into the Bureau of Indian Standards through the Bureau of Indian Standards Act 1986.
The Bureau of Indian Standards carries out the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods.
