About  S. Venkata Mohan:

  • Dr. Mohan has been the Chief Scientist at the IICT since 1998 and has earned his B.Tech in civil engineering, M. Tech in environmental engineering, and a Ph.D. from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.
  • His academic experience includes positions as a visiting professor at Kyoto University and an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Technical University of Munich, Germany.

About CSIR-NEERI:

  • CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) is a research institute in India that focuses on environmental science and engineering.

3. Raman Research Institute faculty honored with the Gates-Cambridge Impact Prize 2025

  • Professor Urbasi Sinha, faculty in the Light and Matter Physics theme at the Raman Research Institute (RRI), was honored with the Gates-Cambridge Impact Prize 2025 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at Cambridge, UK.

  • Prof. Sinha is among the eight winners of Gates-Cambridge's Impact Prize to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

  • Prof. Sinha is a researcher in both quantum fundamentals and technologies, and she heads the Quantum Information and Computing (QuIC) lab at RRI an autonomous institute of Department of Science and Technology. 

  • Her lab was one of the first in India to manufacture and establish the usage of heralded and entangled photon sources towards various applications in the following areas: quantum communication, quantum computing, quantum optics and quantum fundamentals and information processing. 

  • She was awarded the prestigiousRashtriya Vigyan Yuva Puraskar by the Government of India.

  • She is also a recipient of the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Photonic Quantum Science and Technologies, University of Calgary, Canada.

  •  He will take charge of the country’s monetary policy framework and banking regulation at Mint Street on December 11.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is the central bank of India whose primary function is to manage and govern the financial system of the country.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was established based on the recommendations of theRoyal Commission on Indian Currency and Finance, also known as the Hilton-Young Commission.
  • The RBI was established in1934 by the Reserve Bank of India Act and began operations on April 1, 1935,and has beenlocated in Mumbai.
  • The RBI is controlled by the Government of India and comes under the Ministry of Finance.

  • The General Council of the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreed on 29 November by consensus to reappoint Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as Director-General for a second four-year term, set to begin on 1 September 2025.

About Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala:

  • Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iwealafirst assumed office as Director-General on 1 March 2021, becoming the first woman and first African to lead the WTO. 
  • Her first term concludes on 31 August 2025. 
  • Her reappointment highlights the strong support for her efforts to enhance the WTO’s relevance and capacity in addressing the evolving challenges of global trade.

About WTO:

  • The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global organization that regulates trade rules between its member nations.
  •  The WTO officially commenced on January 1, 1995, replacing the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which commenced in 1948. 
  •  The WTO has over 160 members representing 98% of world trade. 
  • The WTO's top decision-making body is the Ministerial Conference, which usually takes place every two years
  •  The WTO's primary purpose is to open trade for the benefit of all
