1. Columbia Journalism School’s alumni award

The Columbia Journalism School Alumni Awards are presented every year to distinguished graduates who exemplify the best of the Journalism School's high standards of journalism.

  • Recipients of the award:
    • Malini Parthasarathy, the chairperson of The Hindu Group Publishing.
    • Eric Marcus, the founder and host of ‘Making Gay History’ podcast.
    • Stuart Schear, the vice-­president for communications and marketing at American Jewish World Service.
    • Thomas Maier, an investigative journalist with Newsday and author.

2. Bhutan Confers its highest civilian award on PM Modi

  1. King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck has   conferred its highest civilian award “Order of the Druk Gyalpo” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 17th December 2021.
  2. This was announced on the occasion of Bhutan’s 114th National Day.
  3. In 2020, PM Modi was awarded with the Legion of Merit Award by the President of the United States along with the Prime Minister of Australia  Scott Morrison  and the former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.

2. Jnanpith Award for 2020 and 2021 announced

  • It is the highest literary award in India and is given annually by the Bharatiya Jnanpith to an Indian author for their "outstanding contribution towards literature".
  • It is given to Indian writers writing in any of the   22 Indian languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
  • The 56th Jnanpith award 2020 was conferred to Assamese poet Nilmani Phookan. He has written Surya Henu Nami Ahe Ei Nodiyedi, Gulapi Jamur Lagna, and Kobita. 
  • The 57th Jnanpith award 2021 was conferred on Konkani novelist Damodar Mauzo. His famous works are Karmelin, and Tsunami Simon, and short stories, such as Teresa’s Man and Other Stories from Goa,Ganthon.
  •  The Jnanpith Award was instituted in 1961 and the first person to get the award was G. Shankar Kurup for his Malayalam poetry collection Odakkuzhal in 1965.

3. 33rd Moortidevi Award 2019 to Vishwanath prasad Tiwari

  • Eminent Hindi author Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari got the 33rd Moorti Devi award 2019 for his work “Asti Aur Bhavati".
  • The Moortidevi award is given by  Bharatiya Jnanpith to Indian writers writing in any of the  22 Indian languages mentioned in the Eight schedule of the Indian Constitution .
  • The first awardee was C.K.Nagaraja Rao for his work Pattamahadevi Shantala Devi written in Kannada 1983.
  • First women awardee was Odia writer   Pratibha Ray in 1985 for her work Yajnasani
  • The 31st awardee was Joy Goswami for his Bengali work Du Dondo Phowara Matro  in 2017.
  • No award was given in 2018.

5. Columbia Journalism School’s alumni award

1. Assam’s highest civilian award for Ratan Tata

On the occasion of Asom Divas or Assam Day, the state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced to confer the most prestigious 'Asom Baibhav' award to the industrialist Ratan Tata.

2. U.S. maths prize for Nikhil Srivastava

Eminent Indian-American mathematician Nikhil Srivastava has been jointly selected for the inaugural $5,000 Ciprian Foias Prize awarded by the American Mathematical Society (AMS) for “highly original work” in Operator Theory.

3. Balkrishna Doshi receives U.K Royal Gold Medal 2022.

Acclaimed Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi has been selected for the Royal Gold Medal 2022, one of the world’s highest honours for architecture.

Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov was the co-founder of the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta.Novaya Gazeta is the most independent newspaper in Russia today.

Nobel prize 2021 winners were conferred with the prize on 10 December The award is announced in the month of October  but it is given to the winner on 10 december ,the birth anniversary of  Alfred Nobel. All the Nobel prizes are given in Stockholm except the Peace prize,which is given in Oslo, Norway. Norway and Sweden were united by a monarch until 1905 when Norway became an Independent Kingdom .

9. U.S. maths prize for Nikhil Srivastava

  • Eminent Indian-American mathematician Nikhil Srivastava has been jointly selected for the inaugural $5,000 Ciprian Foias Prize awarded by the American Mathematical Society (AMS) for “highly original work” in Operator Theory.
  • Along with Professor Srivastava, who teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, the two other awardees are Adam Marcus and Daniel Spielman. 
  • Mr. Marcus holds the Chair of Combinatorial Analysis at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. Mr. Spielman is Sterling Professor of Computer Science at Yale University.
