1. Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav represented India in the ‘8th World Green Economy Summit’ held in Dubai

Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav attended the Ministerial Roundtable for the Green Economy at the 8th World Green Economy Summit (WEGS) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 28 September 2022.
WGES is organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.
The theme of the 8th World Green Economy Summit: ‘Climate Action Leadership through Collaboration: The Roadmap to Net-Zero’.
The World Green Economy summit announced the launch of the ‘Global Alliance on Green Economy’.
The ‘Global Alliance on Green Economy’ aims to build a coalition of countries, prioritising a green economy in the context of climate action and sustainable development, to enhance the capacity of developing countries, provide support for their green economy transition projects and exchange knowledge on implementation.
2. Government appoints Lt General Anil Chauhan as the Chief of Defence Staff

The Government of India has appointed Lt General Anil Chauhan (Retired) as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) who shall also function as Secretary to Government of India, Department of Military Affairs with effect from the date of his assumption of charge and until further orders.
The post of the CDS was vacant after the death of the first CDS, General Bipin Rawat, was killed in a helicopter crash on December 8, 2021. General Rawat took over the CDS post on 1 January 2020.
Lt Gen Anil Chauhan was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army in 1981. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)
- The post of the Chief of Defence staff was created by the government on the recommendation of the Kargil Review Committee headed by K. Subramanyam.
- The CDS is a 4 star General whose rank is the same as the chief of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
- He is the military adviser to the Nuclear Command Authority (chaired by the Prime Minister), which handles India’s nuclear arsenal.
- He will ensure the integration of land-air-sea operations through the eventual setting up of theatre commands.
- The CDS remains in office for the period mentioned by the government or retires after attaining the age of 65 years.
- He is not eligible to hold any government office after demitting (resigning) as the CDS.
3. Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman appointed as the Prime Minister

The Saudi King Salman has appointed the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the Prime Minister of the country, according to a royal decree published on 27 September 2022.
Prince Mohammed is already de facto ruler of the world’s largest oil exporter, and the appointment formalises his role as leader of the kingdom’s government.
The crown prince, known by his initials MBS, previously served as deputy prime minister as well as defence minister. He is being replaced as defence minister by his younger brother, Khalid bin Salman, who was deputy defence minister.

4. Shubi Gupta, Charvi wins the U-12 and U-8 section title at the FIDE World Cadets Chess Championship

India’s Shubi Gupta and A Charvi won the girls under-12 and under-8 sections respectively in the FIDE World Cadets Chess Championship .
The FIDE World Cadets Chess Championship was held in Batumi, Georgia from 16 September to 27 September 2022.

Shubhi Gupta, of Uttar Pradesh scored 8.5 points from 11 rounds to claim the gold medal in the under-12 event.

5. Ajay Kumar Srivastava to be the next MD and CEO of Indian Overseas Bank

The Government of India has approved the appointment of Ajay Kumar Srivastava as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Indian Overseas Bank for a three year term with effect from 1 January 2023.
Ajay Kumar Srivastava is presently the Executive Director in the bank.
The present MD and CEO of IOB, Partha Pratim Sengupta’s tenure ends on 31 December 2022.

7. Sahar Al Rumaih becomes the first women deputy governor of Kuwait’s Central Bank

Kuwait has appointed Sahar Al Rumaih as the deputy governor of its central bank, Central Bank of Kuwait.
It is for the first time that a woman has been appointed to this post in the country.
The first woman deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was KJ Udeshi . She was appointed for this post in 2003.

8. Russia grants citizenship to U.S. whistle blower Snowden

Russian President Vladimir Putin granted Russian citizenship to former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden on 26 September 2022, nine years after he exposed the scale of secret surveillance operations by the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States.
The 39 years old Snowden fled the United States and was given asylum in Russia after leaking secret files in 2013 that revealed vast domestic and international surveillance operations carried out by the NSA, where he worked.
U.S. authorities have for years wanted him returned to the United States to face a criminal trial on espionage charges.
Russia granted Snowden permanent residency rights in 2020, paving the way for him to obtain Russian citizenship.
National Security Agency is the United States intelligence agency under the Department of Defence. It is responsible for electronic surveillance, cryptographic and communications intelligence and security.
A whistle blower is a person of a company or an organisation who exposes the illegal activities committed by the company or the organization to the authorities or to the public.
9. Giorgia Meloni to become the first female Prime Minister of Italy

A coalition of the right wing alliance has won a majority in the recently held Italian parliamentary election on 25 September 2022.
The coalition has won 235 seats in the 400 member Italian Parliament's lower house, Chamber of Deputies.
The Brother of Italy party led by Giorgia Meloni emerged the largest single party with 118 seats.
She is likely to be the first female Prime minister of Italy after the foundation of the Italian Republic in 1946.
She will be the 31st Prime Minister of Italy.
The Italian parliament has two houses. The upper house called the Senate has 200 members and the lower house called the Chamber of deputies has 400 members.

10. Prime Minister Modi arrives in Japan to attend the state funeral of former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Tokyo on 26 September 2022 to participate in the state funeral of the former Japanese Prime minister Shinzo Abe to be held on 27 September 2022.
Shinzo Abe was shot dead on 8 July 2022 while campaigning for a parliamentary election.
The state funeral to be held in Budokan will be attended by representatives of over 100 countries including 20 heads of state or head of government.
Pm Modi would meet separately with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida and Shinzo Abe's wife in Japan.

- PM Modi and Shinzo Abe shared very close ties and the latter had gone on record to call PM Modi his most dependable friend. The close ties between the two leaders helped bolster Indo-Japan ties to a special strategic and global partnership.
