The 12th edition of the Women's World Boxing Championship (WWBC) was organised by the International Boxing Association (IBA) at Basaksehir Youth and Sports Facility, Istanbul, Turkey.
310 boxers from 73 countries participated in the event.
Belarusian and Russian boxers were not allowed to participate in the competition.
India won a total of 3 medals in this event for the first time in the last four years with one gold and two bronze.
India's boxer Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the flyweight (52kg) division against Thailand's Jitpong Jutamas with a score of 5-0. With this win, she became the fifth Indian female boxer to win a world championship.
The other four Indian boxers to win the world title include Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, Lekh Casey.
The other two Indian women boxers Manisha Maun won bronze medals in 57kg and Parveen Hooda in 63kg category.

2. Odisha CM launches Olympic Values Education Programme

International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s Olympic Value Education Program (OVEP) was launched by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in association with Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust (ABFT).
With the aim of making children active, healthy and responsible citizens, the curriculum related to the Olympics was included in the school education system.
The initial target of the program is to reach 32,000 children enrolled in 90 schools in the cities of Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. After this it will be spread to about 70 lakh school children of the state.
Odisha's Department of School and Mass Education and Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust have jointly prepared this program included in the school curriculum.

3. Haryana hockey team won the Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship 2022
Haryana hockey team won the Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship 2022 by defeating Jharkhand hockey team 2-0 in the final.
The 12th National Sub Junior Women's Hockey Championship 2022 was organised in Imphal, Manipur from May 11-22.
During the final match, Riya scored one goal each in the 13th minute and Sejal in the 39th minute to help Haryana's hockey team win.
In the competition, Uttar Pradesh defeated Madhya Pradesh 3-0 to finish third in the tournament.
Uttar Pradesh got the third position in this competition for the second time in a row.
4. Odisha won the National Senior Women's Hockey Championship
On May 17, 2022, Hockey Association Odisha won the title by defeating Karnataka 2-0 in the final match of the 12th Hockey India Senior Women's National Championship played at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
Key points -
In the final match played in the tournament, Poonam Barla scored 34th for Odisha and Ashim Kanchan Barla scored in 59th minute to make Odisha victorious.
In the third place match, Jharkhand beat Haryana 3-2. Deepti Toppo, Albela Rani Toppo and Beton Dungdung scored for Jharkhand. Amandeep Kaur and Bharti Saroha scored for Haryana.
The 12th Hockey India Senior Women's National Championship was organised from May 6 to 17, 2022 at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, Bhopal, in which players from about 27 states participated.

6. Uber Cup 2022

Korea defeated defending champions China in a thrilling final to clinch the Uber Cup title for the second time at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
In the deciding singles match, Korea's 46th-ranked Sim Yu-jin faced 15th-ranked Wang Xie of China, with 23-year-old Hui Sim defeating Wang 28-26, 18-21, 21-8.

46-year-old former Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds has died in a car accident.
The Symonds car accident happened in Townsville, Queensland.
Symonds, who was the best all-rounder player in world cricket, played the first international match of his career against Pakistan in November 1998.
Symonds made his Test debut in March 2004 against Sri Lanka.
Andrew Symonds was a key part of Australia's 50-over World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007.
