Gujarat CM unveils Urban G20 logo, website and social media handle

Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel unveiled the logo, website and social media handles of the Urban-20 conference in Gandhinagar on 19 December 2022. The ceremony was attended virtually by the Union Minister for Urban Development and Urban Housing Hardeep Singh Puri.

Urban 20 

The UNESCO heritage city Ahmedabad will host the Urban 20 meetings as part of G 20 meetings between Februarys to July 2023.

 In July 2023, the U20 mayor’s summit will be held in Ahmedabad to discuss urban development issues.

The Urban 20 will provide a platform for the G20 cities to facilitate discussions on important issues of urban development including climate change, social inclusion, sustainable mobility, affordable housing, and financing of urban infrastructure to propose collective solutions.

Indian Presidency of G 20

India officially assumed the Presidency of G20 on 1 December 2022 from Indonesia. The summit meeting of the Head of the States and the leaders of the G20 is scheduled to be held in September 2023 in New Delhi.

To prepare for the summit meeting a series of meetings is to be held by India.

The first meeting was the G-20 Sherpa meeting held in Udaipur in the first week of December 2022.

G-20 

The G-20 was founded back in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis.

The Group of Twenty (G-20) comprises 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and the European Union. 

The G-20 members represent around 85 per cent of the global GDP, over 75 per cent of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Indonesia to attend the 17th G20 Summit in Bali

Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Indonesia

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a three day (14-16 November) visit to Indonesia to attend the 17th G20 Summit in Bali.  He will leave India on 14th November 2022 .The 17th G-20 Summit will be held in Bali on 15 and 16 November 2022.

Giving the information the Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said during the G-20 summit the leaders will deliberate extensively upon key issues of global concern under the Summit theme of 'Recover Together, Recover Stronger'.

Three working sessions will be held as part of the G20 Summit Agenda. These are food and energy securityhealth, and digital transformation.

Indonesia to hand over the Presidency to India 

According to Kwatra at the closing session of the Summit, the Indonesia President will symbolically hand over the G20 Presidency to Prime Minister Modi. India will formally assume the G20 Presidency from 1st December this year. India will host the next G20 summit in September next year.

During the G20 Presidency, India-Indonesia-Brazil would be the troika. This would be the first time in G20 that the troika would consist of three developing countries and emerging economies in a row. 

 The G20 Summit programme also includes a Leaders' visit to amangrove forestin Bali on the 16th of this month.

The Foreign Secretary said that on the sidelines of the Summit, Prime Minister Modi will have several bilateral interactions with the G20 leaders.

G-20 is a group of 19 leading developed and developing countries and the European Union. It has emerged as an influential group to deliberate on pressing world issues. G20 members represent around 85 percent of the global GDP, over 75 percent of the global trade and about two thirds of the world's population.

3. Indonesia officially hands over G-20 Religious forum Presidency to India in Bali

Indonesia officially hands

Indonesia on 3 November 2022 handed over the Presidency of the R20 summit, the religious grouping of the Group of 20 Forum, to India which New Delhi will host in 2023.

Indonesia, which is the host country of the 17th G- 20 summit 2022, introduced the R 20(Religion Forum) event as part of the G 20 meeting for the first time. Indonesia has the largest muslim population in the world.

It was held on 2 and 3 November 2022 at Bali to mobilize global leaders to help ensure that religion functions as an open and dynamic source of solutions, rather than problems, in the 21st century.

The R20 Summit was inaugurated by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

India will assume the Presidency of the Group of Twenty (or G20) for one year from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023.

Group of 20 or G-20 

 G-20 is a group of 19 countries as well as the European Union.  The member countries are ;Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
