Neeraj Chopra becomes the most written-about athlete in 2022

According to the World Athletics, Tokyo Olympics gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra of India was the most written about track and field athlete in 2022, displacing the Jamaican legend Usain Bolt from the top lists.

Quoting the data collated by media Analysis Company Unicepta the World Athletics body on 16 December 2022 said that there were 812 articles written about Neeraj Chopra in 2022.

Neeraj Chopra was followed by Jamaican trio of Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah (751 articles), 100m world champion Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce (698 articles) and 200m world champion Shericka Jackson (679 articles).

Neeraj Chopra had a very successful 2022. He won the silver medal at the World Athletic Championships 2022 in Eugene, Oregon, becoming only the second Indian to win a worlds medal after Anju Bobby George’s bronze in the women’s long jump in 2003.

Neeraj Chopra also became the first athlete from India to win the Diamond League final this year.

Olympic gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra on September 8 achieved another historic feat, becoming the first Indian to win the coveted Diamond League Final title in Switzerland.

  • Neeraj Chopra has become the first Indian to win the Diamond League trophy.
  • He overtook Czech Republic's Jakob Vadleccho with a throw of 88.44m.

  • Neeraj's first throw was a foul, while the second throw measured 88.44 metres, which was enough for him to win the title.

  • Neeraj threw third throw 88, fourth 86.11, fifth 87 and sixth throw of 83.60 meters.

  • Germany's Julian Weber finished third with 83.73m.

  • With this win, Neeraj won the prize money of Rs 23.98 lakh and also captured the Diamond Trophy.

  • Neeraj did not participate in the first Diamond League held in Doha and the third in Silesia.

  • In Stockholm, Neeraj had made a national record with a throw of 89.94m, but he could only win a silver medal.
