On August 22, 2023, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will launch the India New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP).

Voluntary Participation by Car Manufacturers:
Car manufacturers have the option of voluntarily submitting their vehicles for testing as per the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 197.
The test results will determine star ratings in two categories: Adult Occupant (AOP) and Child Occupant (COP).
