Ketanji Brown Jackson to be the first Black women to be the US Supreme Court Judge

President Joe Biden has nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States of America. If confirmed by the United States  of America Senate she will be the first black woman to be the Judge of the Supreme Court of the United States.

  • The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest court of the United States government.

  • It has one Chief Justice and eight other judges .

Unique feature of the US Supreme Court 

  • The Judges are nominated by the President but they are approved by the Senate. 

  • The Senate has the power to reject the nominated person.

  • Senate is the upper house of the United States Congress 

  • The Parliament of the United States is called Congress which has two houses; Upper house is called Senate (like Rajya Sabha in India) and  the lower house is called as House of Representative (like Lok Sabha in India)

  • The Judges of the Supreme Court are for life. It means they have no retiring age  (In India the Supreme Court Judge  retire after reaching the age of 65 years)

  • The Supreme Court of the United State has a police of its own which enforce its decision (In India supreme Court has no separate police force)
