On 10 March 2023, Thomas A. Sangma, Member (MLA) of the North Tura Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya was elected as the Speaker of the 11th Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya.

Thomas A. Sangma of the National People's Party (NPP) was unanimously elected as no other candidate had filed his nomination for the post of Speaker.
Sangma replaced Metbah Lyngdoh (United Democratic Party).
